Applied AI Engineer

I build AI that
people actually use.

20+ years shipping software. Deep roots in Vue.js architecture, LLM integration, agentic systems, and RAG pipelines. The rare engineer who moves fluently between the AI layer and the human layer.

The intersection nobody
else is standing in.

Most engineers who call themselves "applied AI" have wired up an API. That's not the hard part. The hard part is building the layer between AI capability and human trust — the interface, the evaluation framework, the reliability guardrails, the design instinct that knows when a response needs to be presented differently.

I've spent 20 years getting extremely good at that layer. From being the first engineering hire at magicJack for Business to leading Vue.js migrations at scale to co-founding StaqMed — a healthcare AI platform where the AI architecture is the product — the throughline is translating complex technical capability into something a non-technical person trusts and acts on.

I also run a consultancy, Arcanum Vue Architecture, where I do forensic audits of production frontends. That discipline — read a system you didn't build, identify its leverage points, move fast without breaking things — is exactly what you want in an applied AI engineer joining a team mid-build.

AI Engineering Depth
LLM integration, RAG pipelines, agentic tool-use, prompt engineering, LLM observability — in production, not demos.
Frontend Fluency
20 years of building user-facing systems. The AI layer only matters if the UX layer earns user trust.
Sovereign Stack Ownership
Run a homelab (M1 + Proxmox + RX 580 + Tailscale) with local LLM serving. I don't just use the tools — I own and operate them.
Business & Product Judgment
MBA + 20 years bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders. I ship things that solve real problems, not just interesting ones.

Agentic AI · Business Intelligence
Arcanum Prospect Intelligence
Claude tool-use agent + Brave Search API for automated, real-time prospect research. Multi-step agent loop, structured output, production reliability. Built as both a live business tool and a portfolio demonstration of applied AI engineering.

Healthcare AI · Co-Founder
StaqMed Protocol Intelligence
Co-founding a HIPAA-compliant clinical AI platform. Three-agent orchestration pipeline, RAG over clinical knowledge sources, two-gate eval framework (confidence + faithfulness), human-in-the-loop at critical severity, and append-only audit logging. Built for environments where getting it wrong has real patient consequences.

PWA · Vue 3 · Quasar
Rooted in Red Clay App
Companion PWA for a heritage cooking book series. Quasar Framework, Vue 3, TypeScript, Pinia, offline-first with LocalForage. Food safety calculators as MVP (pink curing salt precision at 0.25%). Monetized via book unlock codes. A demonstration of full-stack PWA architecture done right.

Looking for a senior
remote AI engineer?

I'm actively exploring fully remote senior AI engineering roles where AI is a first-class engineering concern. If you're building something real and need someone who can own the AI layer end-to-end, I'd welcome the conversation.
