Between 1783 and 1784 many horses died because of volcanic ash poisoning and starvation after it. There are about 80,000 horses in Iceland.

Common Puffins are native to the Atlantic Ocean. They breed in Iceland, Norway, Greenland, Newfoundland and many other islands on the ocean. The bird is the official symbol for the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

These small (pony-sized) horses are long-lived and hardy. Horse imports isn't allowed in Iceland and exported Icelandic horses aren't allowed to go back home. Developed from ponies and introduced to Iceland by Scandinavian settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries. Their weight varies between 330 and 380 kilograms. (wikipedia)
