About “GraphQL from the Ground Up”

This talk will introduce GraphQL from the ground up. We’ll go over what it is, what problems it solves, and what it looks like. We’ll talk about what setting up a working GraphQL endpoint looks like, and how it simplifies data fetching on the client. And along the way we’ll touch on the incredibly rich ecosystem of tools that make all of these things simpler.

About Adam Rackis

After a brief stint in the Air Force, Adam began his career as a software developer here in Oklahoma City. In the more than decade since, he’s coded over a wide variety of languages, technologies and frameworks. Most recently he’s developed an unhealthy obsession with JavaScript, and the React stack in particular. When he’s not coding, his interests include fitness, reading, and of course being a husband and father.

Vance Lucas is a seasoned programmer with over 17 years of web programming experience dating back to 1998. Vance is a full stack polyglot programmer who currently uses JavaScript/node.js, PHP, and Ruby for most projects. Vance is the co-founder of the Techlahoma Foundation, Oklahoma City JavaScript User Group (OKC.js), and co-organizer of the annual ThunderPlains Developer Conference in Oklahoma City.

Jesse is a business owner (simiancraft dev shop) and an experienced full-stack developer at the forefront of JavaScript and front-end technologies. He has a deep understanding of multiple programming languages, libraries, patterns, and software development process. We’ll start with no config file, and build the simplest imagineable app. From that starting point we’ll see just how easy it is to add code splitting, chunk management, bundle visualization, and finish with some cool JavaScript toys like Babel and TypeScript.

About “How to Build Automated Smoke Tests Using Protractor”

Over the past year, Dale has been working with his team at SCA to build an automated smoke test system that ensures their applications are loading and performing correctly. They built the tests using Protractor and they perform various UI tests that verify the primary functions of the application are performing correctly. The tests run every few minutes and alert them if any issues are found. Dale will be expanding on the lightning talk he gave at the OKC# March meeting and will be walking through how to set up Protractor, create the tests, and set them to run automatically.

Dale Spoonemore has been in the software business for over 11 years with most of that time spent coming up with schemes to break software. He’s tested applications built using pretty much every language/framework out there across desktop/web/mobile and currently heads up the QA efforts at Surgical Care Affiliates where he spends most of his time testing, creating SOX-compliant test documentation, and writing automated tests for their Angular web apps. This isn’t your grandpa’s JavaScript, its a zany new flavor but it reads like hieroglyphics to you! Where’s all the dollar signs? Say What?!?

About “Skyrocket with Websockets”

In this talk, we’re going to cover how WebSockets work. About 80% of this talk will be a live coding demo where we’re going to build a simple chat app using WebSockets with the help of the Socket.io node library - all live coding, explaining everything on the way. In the end, we’ll have an application similar to websockets.thesocietea.org. The rest of the time will be dedicated to explaining the WebSocket protocol, how it differs from standard HTTP, and why you should (and maybe shouldn’t) use WebSockets in some of your projects today.

Aaron Krauss is a Full Stack developer based out of Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born in Germany in 1990, grew up in a German culture for 6 years, and still speak moderately fluent German. Aaron currently works at Clevyr as a web developer, and engages in miscellaneous development on his own time.
