The Online Books Page

THE CATALOG OF COPYRIGHT ENTRIES

Historic registration records

This page contains links to copyright registration records in the Catalogue of Copyright Entries from mid-1906 to 1928, and its predecessor, the Catalogue of Title Entries, which ran from mid-1891 to mid-1906. In addition, we link to cumulative volumes of dramatic compositions registrations covering the years 1870-1916.

All of the copyrights from these years have now expired in the US. However, the records can still be useful for historical and bibliographic research, and for verifying that a copyright is old enough to have expired due to age.

More recent copyright registrations are also available via this site.

In some cases, more than one scan of a volume exists. Let me know if you want me to search for or link additional copies. (since not all the volumes below scanned perfectly). Note that the catalog sometimes lags behind registrations; for instance, a copyright registered late in 1907 might not appear in the catalog until a 1908 volume.

Copyright registrations after 1928 may still be in force in the US. See this page for online sources for later registrations.
