The doors

E dopo i mattoni... cosa c'è di più tipicamente londinese delle porte colorate?
Io davvero non capisco come si possa definire questa città grigia... è uno di quei falsi miti tipo "che qui piove sempre"... Ma mi sono promessa di fare un post su queste credenze...

Oggi mi mostro solo una personale (e minuscola) raccolta delle porte di ingresso delle case londinesi.

And after the bricks... What is more typical of London than the coloured doors?
I really do not understand how this city can be defined as grey... this is one of those myths like "it always rains here"... But I promise to write soon a post about these beliefs...

Today I just show a personal (and little) collection of the entrance doors of the houses in London.

come contrasto al mattone delle facciate o al bianco candido...

spesso abbinato alla ringhiera delle scale che portano al piano interrato...

 o alla staccionata del giardino...

o ancora meglio ai vasi di fiori...

often as the handrail of the stairs to the basement...

 or as the garden fence...

or even better as the floral composition...

Ovvero, il riciclo creativo di un mattone.
I mattoni di Londra sono famosissimi, hanno un colore riconoscibile... e sono nell'immaginario comune.
Le casa vittoriane e la maggior parte degli edifici non di recente costruzione sono tutti in mattoni a vista, al naturale o tinteggiati.

That is, the creative recycling of a brick.
The London bricks are very famous, they have a particular colour... and they are very popular.
The Victorian houses and most of the not recent buildings are all made by bricks, natural or painted.

Spesso anche alcune pareti interne sono lasciate in mattoni, nei pub o anche nelle case private. La parete del camino a casa nostra è in mattoni bianchi...
Comunque... oltre alla parete del camino, in giardino abbiamo una certa quantità di mattoncini, lasciati lì per chissà quale motivo.
Vista la disposizione di casa, dove gli ambienti cambiano a seconda che si aprano o chiudano le porte a libro... avevo proprio bisogno di qualche ferma porta.

Some interior walls are often brick built, in the pubs or even in the private houses. The wall where there is the fireplace in our house is in white bricks...
Anyway...  in the garden we have a certain amount of bricks, left there for some reason.
The rooms in my house change according to the folding doors which close or open the folding doors ... so I really need some doorstop.

Ma come al solito non ho trovato nulla in giro che mi piacesse (e non costasse troppo!)... quindi:

But as usual I have not found anything that I liked (and not too expensive!)... then:

1+1=2

cioè... mattone fermaporta!

Alcuni consigli / Some tips:

1. Pulite benissimo il mattone spazzolandolo, e se lo lavate lasciatelo poi asciugare a lungo (qualche giorno) per fargli perdere tutta l'umidità anche all'interno

Clean the brick very well using a brush, and if you wash it then let it dry for a long time (several days). It can't be wet inside.

2. Se è danneggiato in alcuni punti, meglio ripararlo prima di iniziare a dipingerlo (fissate eventuali angoli che si sbriciolano con il silicone)

If it is damaged, it's better fix it before starting to paint (fill cracks with silicone)

3. Non colorate direttamente il mattone, ma usate una buona base aggrappante perchè il materiale è molto poroso e altrimento assorbe il colore.

Don't paint directly the brick but remember to use a strong primer because it is porous and can absorb the varnish.

Ne ho fatti quattro, due bianchi e due oro... sembrano dei lingotti!

What to do with a false door?

Cosa fare con una falsa porta?
E' una porta chiusa, murata, che non serve più... ma che conserva ancora la cornice...
Come al solito, meglio sfruttarla!
Io suggerisco di trasformarla in una libreria... basta davvero pochissimo... guardate:

It's a locked door, walled, no longer in use... but still with the frame ...
As usual, it is better play on it!
I suggest turning it into a bookshelves... simply with a little effort... let's look:

Bookcase

Va montata sulla cornice della porta una seconda cornice di legno come ancoraggio, e poi le mensole a piacimento.
In questo modo il telaio non viene rovinato, e qualora dovesse essere riaperta non dovrà essere sostituito!

A second wooden frame is fixed on the door's frame as an anchor, and then the shelves as you like.
Thus the door frame is not damaged, and if it has to be reopened it should not be replaced!

Detail
