To visit Sous Sol we had to just cross the street. Maria Velizioti and Yiorgos Andritsakis while renovating this space, they found out that apart from the two rooms in front, used previously by a painter of orthodox icons, there were more rooms in the back as well as a small yard.

Last week I learned about the existence of two very interesting groups of people: Alternative Tours of Athens and by local Athens.
 

ATA is organizing tours of special interest such as architecture, photography, biking etc. in order to help you know the real Athens and discover its hidden treasures. If you are not the type of visitor that will be satisfied with merely the usual sightseeing tour or if you live here but feel that there is still much to learn about your own city, ATA are your people.

I went to Xeiroteknika

Last Sunday afternoon, I spent a couple of hours at Xeiroteknika, a show dedicated to crafting, that was organized for the second time in Athens by ftiaxto. The place, The Hub, an old industrial building, was great but proved to be small for the crowds that visited the exhibition. Given the fact that Xeiroteknika was hosted in a smaller space last year, we can assume that even the organizers didn't expect the success.

A young designers trade show

This weekend I hope I will make it to Tell a Story . It's a trade show for young designers which is going to take place for the third time and more specifically between the 10th and 12th of October 2008 at K44 (Konstantinoupoleos 44, Gazi). It will open on Thursday 9th of October at 21.00h with a big party open to all.
Tell a story is focusing on the presentation of fresh and innovative work of young designers, aiming to promote it within the greek and foreign market. Forty young designers will present their collections of clothing, fashion accessories, jewellery, bijoux, objects, t-shirts for Spring - Summer 2009, always in small quantities and high quality. The exhibition is for trade only or by special invitation.

Green design in Athens

I have said it again: don't forget to re-use. But I've never said you should do it without style. And if you think this is difficult Green Design Festival is here to give you inspiration. On an open contemporary playground on Syntagma Square, in the heart of Athens, industrial designers, fashion designers, architects present proposals and ideas on how to turn every day life greener without saying bye bye to design. During this festival a lot of other interesting things will take place in other spots of Athens.

If you want to fix the ambience of your living-room but can't afford to spend on hip designer's lighting fixtures here are two ideas. In the first picture you see plastic bottles with water.

These two last ideas are for me. One month ago I started collecting plastic lids without having any idea what I would do with them. I think my problem is solved now.

Οι δύο τελευταίες ιδέες είναι για μένα. Ένα μήνα πριν ξεκίνησα να μαζεύω πλαστικά καπάκια χωρίς να έχω ιδέα τί πρόκειται να τα κάνω. Νομίζω ότι το πρόβλημά μου λύθηκε.

A craft fair

Craft fairs in Greece are very rare if not completely absent. Crafters who want to make their creations known to people or get in contact with wholesale clients have no other way than big commercial exhibitions with very expensive booths. But who can afford it when he is just starting? That's why I was very glad to here from my online friend and co-seller on Etsy Nicky Bee, who creates with a lot of talent beautiful home decor accessories, about a craft fair with working mum's creations that took place in Thessaloniki in May with great success. The title was La Mamma and we are very jealous here in Athens.

Hearts in Athens

For almost 2 months now the center of Athens has been a more beautiful place. Big hearts, painted by known and less known artists, adorn squares, streets, buildings, parks, metro stations.
