Various Artists - MusiCares Tribute to James Taylor, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 2-6-2006

Here's another MusiCares tribute concert. I only have a couple more of these after this one, and I want to post them in the next days. This one honors James Taylor.

This concert followed the usual format for these kinds of things: a bonus of famous musical acts sang covers of his songs, then he accepted an award and gave a speech, and finally he played a couple of his songs. If you look at the song lists, a lot of big names showed up to perform his songs, including Bruce Springsteen.

Another big name also played one of his songs at the concert: Paul Simon sung "Sweet Baby James." But unfortunately, this is sourced from a DVD, but that song wasn't included, and I couldn't find any version of it anywhere. If anyone has it, please let me know so I can add it in.

I know Simon played that song in this concert, because it's mentioned in this article, which is a good summary of the concert in general:

MusiCares Honors Singer James Taylor - CBS News

Also, while trying to find a good photo for the cover art, I went through a stash of hundreds of photos from the concert, and noticed that other big names like Neil Young and Brian Wilson attended. But I doubt they performed, or they probably would have been mentioned in that news article I just linked to.

As mentioned above, this is sourced from an official DVD, so the sound quality is excellent. No version is any audio format has been released. As I sometimes do, I converted the video to audio, then broke it into mp3s.

This album is an hour and 18 minutes long.

Various Artists - Gershwin Prize for Popular Song Honoring Burt Bacharach & Hal David, White House, Washington, DC, 5-9-2012

I'm particularly psyched to post this album, because all the Gershwin Prize tribute concerts are nice, but most are very hard to find, and I want to post them all. Another tough one has been conquered. This one is a tribute to the great songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

By the way, with this one, I've posted ten of the Gershwin Prize concerts. That leaves four that I'm still missing. These four. If anyone has any of them, please let me know!:

2013 Carole King
2016 Smokey Robinson
2017 Tony Bennett
2019 Gloria & Emilio Estefan

The timing of this concert was fortuitous, because it turned out Hal David died only a few months later, in September 2012, at the ripe old age of 91. He was too ill to attend the concert, and had his wife Eunice David accept the award on his behalf. But at least he lived long enough to know that he and his songwriting partner won this prestigious award. Bacharach died in 2023 at the age of 94. As an aside, I've included them in the "Covered" songwriter series, with five albums of their music.

This one was a real challenge to put together, which is why I said up above I feel like I "conquered" it. At first, it seemed easy, and I found a download for it at a popular bootleg sharing site. But while that got me the first two thirds, the file for the last third was corrupted. I asked if anyone could fix it, and waited a couple of months, but nobody ever helped. So then I found a list of all the songs performed and went to find the missing ones on YouTube. After much digging, I found them all, including the speeches at the end. This was a lucky break, because YouTube didn't have some of the songs from earlier in concert.

All's well that ends well. Everything should be here, and in excellent sound quality. I only cut out a couple of unimportant bits, such as a track at the start where the emcee named all the music acts that would perform in the concert.

This follows the usual pattern of various stars performing covers of songs by the prize winners, then an acceptance speech, then the prize winners performing a song or two. One surprise was that comedian and director Mike Myers performed. But instead of doing a comedy routine, he sang a song. He didn't embarrass himself, and he said some comments showing that he was huge Bacharach-David fan.

This album is 53 minutes long.

01 talk (emcee)
02 I'll Never Fall In Love Again (Sheryl Crow & Lyle Lovett)
03 talk (Stevie Wonder)

Various Artists- MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young, Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA, 1-29-2010

So far, I've posted three MusiCares tribute concerts. I recently got a request to post this one honoring Neil Young sooner rather than later, so here it is. I still have five more to post after this, so look for those eventually as well.

Tons of talented stars showed up to sing their favorite Neil Young songs. There's a lot of great music here. Unfortunately, there's also some that's missing. This comes from a DVD of the event. Generally speaking, only a small crowd of the rich and famous attend these MusiCares concerts, so bootlegs of them are very rare. We know from media accounts that three songs were performed that weren't included on the DVD. Those are:

"Long May You Run" by Stephen Stills & Sheryl Crow
"Comes a Time" by Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin & Lucinda Williams
"A Man Needs a Maid" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

If anyone has any of those so I can add them, please let me know. I found a video of the Red Hot Chili Peppers song recorded on a cell phone and posted on YouTube, but the sound quality is terrible. I'm guessing a lot of the banter between songs was cut out as well. Actor Jack Black was the emcee, but he's not really heard at all in the recording.

Typically, the person honored in these tributes performs a couple of songs at the end of the concert. But while Neil Young was there, and gave a short speech, it seems he didn't perform any songs.

Here's a good account of the concert by someone who attended:

https://tinnitist.com/2023/08/11/back-stories-neil-youngs-musicares-tribute-jan-29-2010/

And Rolling Stone Magazine published a bunch of photos from it, here:

This album is an hour and eight minutes long.

01 Down by the River (John Mellencamp & T-Bone Burnett)
02 Mr. Soul (Ozomatli)
03 Don't Let It Bring You Down (Jackson Browne)
04 Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Lady Antebellum)

06 Broken Arrow (Wilco)
07 Harvest Moon (Josh Groban)
08 Revolution Blues (Everest)
09 Cinnamon Girl (Dierks Bentley & Booker T. Jones)

Ringo Starr & Friends - Ringo at the Ryman, Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN, 1-14-2025

Just a few days ago, a commenter (Brett Allen) suggested that I post the "Ringo at the Ryman" concert, which was broadcast on TV in early 2025. I had never even heard of this, but I went to check it out. I discovered this was a really excellent suggestion, so here it is already. Thanks again to Brett for making that suggestion.

In January 2025, Ringo Starr released a studio album called "Look Up." It was the first album since his very first solo album in 1970 that had a overt country sound to it. For his supporting musicians, he picked some of my favorite currently performing musical acts, like Larkin Poe, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and Alison Krauss. They appeared for this concert (minus Alison Krauss), plus some other very well chosen guests, like Jack White, Sheryl Crow, and Rodney Crowell. I'm especially gratified to see the prominent role Larkin Poe had. I've been promoting their music for a long time now. It's nice to see them gradually breaking into the major leagues, despite the lack of obvious hit singles or hit albums, but just from building up a following through touring and being really talented.

Oddly, though, two famous guests only appeared on stage to help with the singalongs on the last two songs: Emmylou Harris and Brenda Lee.

Out of the four Beatles, Starr was the one most influenced by country music. This concert was meant to promote his latest studio album, for sure. But it also showed the country influence in his earlier works, including many country-influenced country songs. Starr sang and/or played drums on some of the songs. But for a majority of the songs, he let the guest stars sing lead vocals. About half of the time, he wasn't even on stage.

I was able to find a video file of this concert. Then I converted it into audio format and broke it into mp3s. So I don't think this has been shared as an audio bootleg until now. The music is all unreleased, and the sound quality is excellent.

This album is an hour and nine minutes long.

The cover photo is from the encore at the end of this exact concert. I can recognize some of the people, but not all of them. From left to right: unknown, Molly Tuttle, unknown, Jack White, Ringo Starr, Rodney Crowell, Brenda Lee (in front of Crowell), Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe, Emmylou Harris, Mickey Guyton, unknown, and Billy Strings. There were a few more people standing on each side that got cropped out, or otherwise everyone would have appeared considerably smaller.

Note also that I made some edits in Photoshop to the crowd at the bottom of the picture. In the original, a couple of people were holding their cell phones up high to take pictures, and I found that distracting. So I pasted in heads of more random people (taken from parts of the image cropped on either side) to cover up the cell phones.

Sheryl Crow - PBS Soundstage, WTTW Studios, Chicago, IL, 8-5-2003

Here's another episode of the "PBS Soundstage" TV show. This one stars Sheryl Crow, in 2003.

Normally with this show, I only know the broadcast date, and not the actual performance date. But in this case, I'm pretty sure this is the performance date. The episode wasn't broadcast until June 2004. Crow didn't release a new studio album in 2003 (or 2004 either). But she did release a best of album, "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow." That contained a cover version of "The First Cut Is the Deepest" by Cat Stevens, which she performed here. Her version was a hit, and she hasn't had a bigger hit since then.

Generally speaking, the set list mostly consists of her best known songs. One surprise though is a cover of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," written by Nick Lowe. She has yet to release that on album.

These episodes are typically an hour long. This is longer though. That's because her full concert was released on DVD in 2008, so I used that. It has yet to be released in any audio format, however.

This album is an hour and 31 minutes long.

01 My Favorite Mistake (Sheryl Crow)
02 talk (Sheryl Crow)
03 You're an Original (Sheryl Crow)
04 The First Cut Is the Deepest (Sheryl Crow)

Sheryl Crow - Nobody Told Me - Non-Album Tracks (2020-2022)

It's time for another stray tracks album from Sheryl Crow. Actually, I only need another song or two and I'll have enough to get caught up to present day. So I hope that'll happen soon.

After a 2019 album, "Threads," Crow said she was done with putting out albums and would switch to releasing singles instead. She hasn't entirely kept to that, since she released another album in 2024. But she has released fewer albums than before, and she also has released some songs only on singles. There are three single A-sides here, tracks 3, 9, and 10. Additionally, "Still the Same" is another original, released on a compilation album. Tracks 4, 5, 7, and 11 are from appearances on albums by other musical acts.

That just leaves the unreleased songs. There are four of those, tracks 1, 2, 6, and 8. The first three were live but without an audience, because this was during the Covid pandemic, when home concerts were happening instead of concerts in front of crowds. For the tracks with audience noise (tracks 4 and 8), I removed the cheering with the MVSEP program so it would fit in with the studio tracks.

This album is 45 minutes long.

01 Nobody Told Me (Sheryl Crow)
02 You Don't Know How It Feels (Sheryl Crow)
03 In the End (Sheryl Crow)
04 After the Fire Is Gone (Willie Nelson & Sheryl Crow)
05 How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (Barry Gibb & Sheryl Crow)
06 It's Only Love (Sheryl Crow)
07 Cool Down (Lucie Silvas & Sheryl Crow)
08 Rocket Man [I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time] (Brandi Carlile & Sheryl Crow)
09 Circles (Sheryl Crow)
10 Promised Land (Toby Mac & Sheryl Crow)
11 Still the Same (Sheryl Crow)

For the cover art, I decided to do something different than the usual photo of Crow. I did an Internet search for Sheryl Crow art, and came up with this nice image. I don't know who made it.

Sheryl Crow - VH-1 Storytellers, Sony Music Studios, New York City, 8-20-1998

Here we go again with another "VH-1 Storytellers" episode. This time, it's Sheryl Crow.

As an aside, I believed this is the 52nd album from this TV show that I've posted so far. I have about ten more to go, so we're entering the final stretch. That's out of nearly 100 episodes. There are a handful more I'd like to post except I can't find the music for them, and there are still others that have been officially released in full or are of musical acts that I really don't like.

About a month after this concert, Crow released her third studio album, "The Globe Sessions." This would go on to be a big seller, selling about two million copies in the U.S. alone.

As you'd expect, she played songs from her latest album. But only two were broadcast on the TV show: "My Favorite Mistake" and "Riverwide." I would assume she played more that got edited out.

There were two surprises in this concert. One, she performed the 1960s classic hit "Ode to Billy Joe," which she has never officially released. And two, she was joined by Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks for the song "Strong Enough." Apparently, Crow and Nicks are good friends and have occasionally appeared on each other's albums. Everything from this album is unreleased, except for the "Strong Enough" duet, which appeared on a various artists compilation of Storytellers performances.

As is usually the case with this series, the broadcast of first song began midway through. In most cases, I've managed to find a similar version and fill in the missing portion. I tried to do that again here, with "Everyday Is a Winding Road." Unfortunately, the other versions I found from around this time had somewhat different arrangements. It was enough of a difference so I couldn't make a good match. So I had to leave it incomplete.

This album is 46 minutes long.

01 Everyday Is a Winding Road [Edit] (Sheryl Crow)
02 talk (Sheryl Crow)
03 If It Makes You Happy (Sheryl Crow)
04 talk (Sheryl Crow)
05 My Favorite Mistake (Sheryl Crow)

11 Strong Enough (Sheryl Crow & Stevie Nicks)
12 talk (Sheryl Crow)

Woodstock '94, Winston Farm, Saugerties, NY, 8-12-1994 to 8-14-1994 - Day 1, Part 3: Sheryl Crow

The third full set from the first day of the Woodstock '94 Festival features Sheryl Crow.

The situation with Sheryl Crow is very similar to that of the first two acts from the festival that I've posted, Blues Traveler and Live. All three of them were right on the cusp of stardom, but not quite there yet, which is why they were relegated to the middle of the first day of the festival. Crow's debut album "Tuesday Night Music Club" was released in 1993. However, it took a while to catch on. According to Wikipedia, it wasn't until July 1994 when "All I Wanna Do" was released as the fourth single. But it didn't soar up the charts until October 1994, after this festival.

However, for Blues Traveler and Live, massive success wouldn't be sustained past one really big hit album. Whereas for Crow, "Tuesday Night Music Club" would eventually sell close to five million copies in the U.S. alone, but she'd keep going and going, eventually selling over 50 million albums worldwide.

Given all the success she'd had, I had a surprisingly difficult time putting her set together. One song, "Run, Baby, Run," appeared on the official double album for the festival, so that's here in excellent sound quality. A couple of the others were taken from videos of the pay-per-view, so they also sound excellent. But the rest comes from an audience bootleg. However, I ran that through two different audio editing programs to make different fixes (UVR5 and MVSEP), so at least those sound better than before, in my opinion, though still not as good as the others. But unfortunately I couldn't find the first song she played, "Can't Cry Anymore," in any condition, so that one isn't here.

This album is 35 minutes long.

01 All I Wanna Do (Sheryl Crow)
02 talk (Sheryl Crow)
03 Love Is a Good Thing (Sheryl Crow)
04 talk (Sheryl Crow)
05 Run, Baby, Run (Sheryl Crow)

Various Artists - An All-Star Tribute to Johnny Cash, Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, 4-6-1999

I've previously posted "All-Star Tribute" concerts for Paul Simon and Brian Wilson. I discovered they were part of a short-lived annual tradition at the TNT TV network. There are only a couple more, so I plan on posting them too. Here's the next one, an "All-Star Tribute" to country legend Johnny Cash.

In 1999, Cash's health was in serious decline. He wouldn't die until 2003, at the age of 71. But by 1999, he rarely gave public performances. As he mentioned in his stage comments here, he hadn't performed on stage in the past year and a half. After this, he would only make about half a dozen additional musical performances, none of them full concerts. So although he did sing at the very end of this concert, maybe with his health in mind he only sang two songs.

The rest of the concert featured an impressive roster of musical stars singing songs made famous by Cash. It should be noted that the biggest stars, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and U2, weren't actually there but videotaped musical performances that were played at the concert.

Unfortunately, one person who couldn't sing at this concert was Cash's famous musical daughter Rosanne Cash. This concert happened to take place during a three-year time period in which Rosanne was unable to sing due to a polyp on her vocal chords. She did, however, give a brief speech.

Most of the concert was emceed by actor Jon Voight. However, some of the other banter was by singer-songwriter Larry Gatlin, actor Kevin Bacon, and actor Tim Robbins. There were some additional parts that I cut out. These were narrated video tributes to different stages of Cash's life. I cut those out because they were mainly meant to be seen, not heard.

Like the other "All-Star Tributes" in this series, this concert remains officially unreleased. I found the video of it on YouTube, then converted that to audio. The sound quality is excellent throughout.

This album is an hour and a half long.

The cover shows John Mellencamp with Johnny Cash at this exact concert. Curiously, Mellencamp didn't appear in any of the songs. Perhaps he had a song or two that got cut out of the TV broadcast, or perhaps he had a non-performing role, I don't know. But I thought it was a good photo to show how Cash was honored.

Sheryl Crow - The Good Fight - Non-Album Tracks (2018-2020)

Phew. Sheryl Crow has sooo many stray tracks. This is the nineteenth album of non-album tracks I've posted so far, and I still have two more to go to get caught up to the present day.

By now, you probably know the drill. This is the usual mix of released and unreleased tracks. There are six released tracks this time, and in four cases they're from Crow appearing on albums by other artists. The two others are A-sides ("Woman in the White House" and "Lonely Town, Lonely Street").

As for the three unreleased tracks, those are "Tumbling Dice," "Walk Away," and "Redemption Day." "Tumbling Dice" sounds a bit rough, and just barely made the cut. Everything else on the album sounds very good though. As for the song "Redemption Day," Crow has done versions just by herself and also as a duet with Johnny Cash. This is another duet version, but with Bruce Springsteen singing Cash's part.

There are two bonus tracks, both from bootlegs. The sound quality wasn't good enough for those.

This album is 39 minutes long, not counting the bonus tracks.

01 My Sweet Love (Reef & Sheryl Crow)
02 The Good Fight (Timothy B. Schmit & Sheryl Crow)
03 Tumbling Dice (Sheryl Crow)
04 Turn Off the News [Build a Garden] (Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real & Sheryl Crow)
05 Walk Away (Sheryl Crow & Joe Walsh)
06 Redemption Day (Sheryl Crow & Bruce Springsteen)
07 Everywhere You Go (Ziggy Marley & Sheryl Crow)
08 Woman in the White House [2020 Version] (Sheryl Crow)
09 Lonely Town, Lonely Street (Sheryl Crow with Citizen Cope)

Black Dog (Robert Plant & Sheryl Crow)
When Will I Be Loved (Sheryl Crow)

This time, I used a concert poster for the album cover. I had to cut off a lot of the bottom part of the poster to get it to fit. I also write the album name over where the name of her back up band had been. (It used to say "and the Thieves.")

Sheryl Crow - The Dreaming Kind - Non-Album Tracks (2016-2018)

One these years, I'm going to finish posting all the Sheryl Crow stray tracks albums. Moving forward chronologically, I'm getting closer to the present day (as I write this in November 2023).

I believe this is the 18th, Crow stray tracks album I've posted. If you're familiar with some of the others, you should know the drill by now. Seven of the songs are officially released, and they're the usual mix of songs from movie soundtracks, bonus tracks, various artists compliations, and the like. Two of the songs, "The Dreaming Kind" and "Wouldn't Want to Be like You," were A-sides, but weren't big hits.

The other four songs are unreleased. One of them, "Dude I'm Still Alive," is kind of a jokey song making fun of rumors that she had died. It was done in the studio and put on the Internet. The other three unreleased songs are all from concert bootlegs, and are covers of classic songs ("Fire and Rain," "Go Your Own Way," and "New Kid in Town.").

There's one bonus track, another live cover of a classic song, "For What It's Worth." Unfortunately, the sound quality just wasn't good enough to put it with the other songs.

This album is 44 minutes long.

01 Dancing with Your Shadow (Sheryl Crow)
02 Embraceable You (Willie Nelson & Sheryl Crow)
03 Natural High (Sheryl Crow)
04 New Kid in Town (Sheryl Crow & Grace Potter)
05 Fire and Rain - Your Smiling Face (Sheryl Crow)
06 The Dreaming Kind (Sheryl Crow)
07 Dude, I'm Still Alive (Sheryl Crow)
08 I'm Tied to Ya (Rodney Crowell & Sheryl Crow)
09 Disappearing World (Sheryl Crow)
10 Go Your Own Way (Sheryl Crow)
11 Wouldn't Want to Be like You (Sheryl Crow with Annie Clark)

For What It's Worth (Sheryl Crow)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15931247/SherylC_2016-2018_ThDreamngKnd_atse.zip.html

Like the cover for the last album in this series, I got tired of album covers that were just photos of Sheryl Crow. So this time, I found some nice artwork that was part of one of her concert posters. That included her name at the top. As usual with posters, I had to crop the image to turn the rectangular shape into a square one. I added the album name at the bottom.

Sheryl Crow - Nothing to It - Non-Album Tracks (2013-2015)

I still continue to move chronologically through Sheryl Crow's music career with stray tracks albums. Here's the next one. I'm getting closer to the current day, and hope to post the remaining ones pretty soon.

Six of the 14 songs have been officially released (tracks 1, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 13). Those generally are from various artists compilations and appearances on other musicians' albums.

The remainder are all from concert bootlegs. The sound quality is variable, but all good enough to not be bumped down to bonus track status. Most of those are covers of famous songs. Overall, this album also has a bunch of duets.

This album is 47 minutes long.

01 The Tears of a Clown (Sheryl Crow & Smokey Robinson)
02 Don't Bring Me Down (Sheryl Crow)
03 You're No Good (Sheryl Crow)
04 Freight Train (Gary Clark, Jr. & Sheryl Crow)
05 Here for a Good Time (George Strait & Sheryl Crow)
06 Amazing Grace (Sheryl Crow)
07 Baby, It's Cold Outside (Darius Rucker & Sheryl Crow)
08 Revolution (Sheryl Crow)
09 Nothing to It (Sheryl Crow & the Julius Jr. Garage Band)
10 Beautiful Day (Joshua Radin & Sheryl Crow)
11 The Wandering Boy (Sheryl Crow with Vince Gill)
12 Two More Bottles of Wine (Sheryl Crow & Vince Gill)
13 A Hard Day's Night (Sheryl Crow)
14 I Want You to Want Me (Sheryl Crow)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15649466/SherylC_2013-2015_NothngtoIt_atse.zip.html

I've posted so many Sheryl Crow albums with photos on her on the cover that I wanted to do something different this time. I searched the Internet for artwork about her, and found this nice image. I don't know who made it though.

Sheryl Crow - Home Again - Non-Album Tracks (2012-2013)

It feels like I'm never going to finish posting all of Sheryl Crow's stray tracks material. This is the sixteenth such album I've posted, and there are still five more to go as I write this in 2023.

Five of the songs here are unreleased. But they generally sound very good. Two of them, "Leaning in a New Direction" and "Deep as It Is Wide," are studio tracks. "Walk on By" was performed at the White House for a TV show, so its sound is fine. The other two, "Up Around the Bend" and "Rock and Roll," are from concert bootlegs and sound a bit rougher. I did some extra editing on those two to help with the sound, which is why they have "[Edit]" in their titles.

Regarding the editing of "Leaning in a New Direction," it needed a lot of work. It's a nice song that I could imagine as a hit, so it's very surprising that it remains unreleased. I have an entire blog post explaining what I did to it, if you're interested:

Albums That Should Exist: Sheryl Crow - Leaning in a New Direction (Edited Song) (2013)

As for the released tracks, they're the usual type for this sort of album. There are three bonus tracks, three songs from soundtracks, and two songs from other artist's albums.

This album is 50 minutes long.

01 The World You Make (Sheryl Crow)
02 Will You Love Me Tomorrow (Rita Wilson & Sheryl Crow)
03 Walk On By (Sheryl Crow)
04 Up Around the Bend [Edit] (Sheryl Crow & Kid Rock)
05 Leaning in a New Direction [Edit] (Sheryl Crow)
06 Deep as It Is Wide (Eric Paslay & Sheryl Crow)
07 This Is You [That Was Then] (Sheryl Crow)
08 You're Asking the Wrong Person (Sheryl Crow)
09 Far Away Places (Willie Nelson & Sheryl Crow)
10 Jukin' (Sheryl Crow)
11 Home Again (Sheryl Crow, Dave Alvin, Phil Alvin & Taj Mahal)
12 Away from This World (Sheryl Crow)
13 Rock and Roll [Edit] (Sheryl Crow)

https://www.upload.ee/files/15523725/SherylC_2012-2013_HmeAgin_atse.zip.html

I got tired of just posting photos of Sheryl Crow for her album covers. So I searched for artwork related to her, and found a nice poster. I don't know when it's from or who made it. I had to crop it to get the rectangular shape to fix into a square space, and I added the text.

Sheryl Crow - Beautiful Dreamer - Non-Album Tracks (2010-2012)

It's time for another Sheryl Crow stray tracks album. I'm gradually moving forward chronologically to the present day.

Eight of the 12 songs here have been officially released. One, "I Want You Back," is a bonus track, and another, "Woman in the White House," is an A-side. The rest are from various artists compilations or appearances on other artists' albums.

The other four songs may be unreleased, but their sound quality is just as high as the released stuff. That's because all four are from TV performances, so they were professionally recorded. One, "This Day," is a TV show theme, and the other three were from tribute concerts at the White House or the Kennedy Center, both in Washington, DC.

This album is 41 minutes long, not including the bonus tracks.

Speaking of bonus tracks, the two bonus tracks are from concert bootlegs (and are actually from the same concert). They sound okay, but there's a significant drop compared to the excellent sound for all the other songs here, which is why I've bumped them down to just bonus tracks.

01 I Want You Back (Sheryl Crow)
02 Today I Started Loving You Again (Sheryl Crow & Willie Nelson)
03 Mrs. Major Tom (Sheryl Crow)
04 The Man I Love [The Girl I Love] (Tony Bennett & Sheryl Crow)
05 You've Really Got a Hold on Me (Smokey Robinson & Sheryl Crow)
06 Beautiful Dreamer (Sheryl Crow)
07 Angel Mine (Sheryl Crow)
08 Come On Up to the House (Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow & Lukas Nelson)
09 This Day (Sheryl Crow)
10 Woman in the White House (Sheryl Crow)
11 Cry, Cry, Cry (Sheryl Crow)
12 I'll Never Fall in Love Again (Sheryl Crow & Lyle Lovett)

Love the One You're With (Sheryl Crow & Kid Rock)
Stuck in the Middle with You (Sheryl Crow)

Sheryl Crow - Collide - Non-Album Tracks (2009-2010)

I continue to gradually make my way chronologically through Sheryl Crow's music career with stray tracks albums. Here's the next one.

This one happens to consist mostly of live performances, generally unreleased. The songs "Murder in My Heart," "Need a Little Love," "Collide," and "Lean on Me" are studio versions, generally from various artists compilations. The last two, "Our Love Is Fading" and "Got to Give It Up," are semi-released in that they're from DVDs, but not audio releases. The rest are all from concert bootlegs. However, the sound quality is high, at the soundboard level.

There were a couple of exceptions to that sound quality though. "Back in the U.S.A.," a duet between Crow and Elvis Costello of a Chuck Berry song, sounded rougher. However, I used the UVR5 audio editing program and that helped enough for me to decide to include it. I did the same with her cover of the Beatles song "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." But while that sounds pretty good now, I decided it's still not up to snuff with the others, so I've only included it here as a bonus track.

There are lots of covers of classic songs here. There are only a few exceptions, like "Need a Little Love" and "Collide."

This album is 47 minutes long, not including the bonus track.

01 Murder in My Heart (Sheryl Crow)
02 Back in the U.S.A. [Edit] (Sheryl Crow & Elvis Costello)
03 One Love (Will.I.Am, Sheryl Crow & Herbie Hancock)
04 Can't Find My Way Home (Sheryl Crow & the Allman Brothers Band)
05 It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry (Sheryl Crow & the Allman Brothers Band)
06 My Sweet Lord (Sheryl Crow with Ben Harper)
07 Need a Little Love (Sheryl Crow & Hannah Montana)
08 Collide (Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow)
09 Lean On Me (Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban & Kid Rock)
10 All Down the Line (Sheryl Crow with Chuck Leavell & the Roots)
11 Our Love Is Fading (Sheryl Crow with Eric Clapton)
12 Got to Give It Up (Sheryl Crow)

You've Got to Hide Your Love Away [Edit] (Sheryl Crow)

Sheryl Crow - Rise Up - Non-Album Tracks (2008)

Sheryl Crow was quite a busy musician in 2008. She released the studio album "Detours," the Christmas album "Home from Christmas," then still had enough stray tracks on top of that for me to compile this album.

I have to admit that I'm not usually a fan of Christmas albums, though there are a few exceptions. So I took the three songs from her Christmas album that I liked the most and sprinkled them into this album.

A couple of songs, "Doctor My Eyes" and "Rise Up," are bonus tracks from the "Detours" album. Two more, "Evangeline" and "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," are live versions that have been officially released.

Everything else is unreleased. "Cross Creek Road" is an outtake from the "Detours" session, with sound quality that would make you think it was released. The remaining two songs, "Fire and Rain" and "Crossroads," are from soundboard quality concert bootlegs.

Two more songs, "Higher Ground" and "Mean to Me," are only bonus tracks due to sound quality issues. They don't sound bad, but they're not as good as the rest.

This album is 39 minutes long, not including the two bonus tracks.

01 Doctor My Eyes (Sheryl Crow)
02 The Bells of St. Mary's (Sheryl Crow)
03 Evangeline (Levon Helm & Sheryl Crow)
04 Rise Up (Sheryl Crow)
05 White Christmas (Sheryl Crow)
06 Fire and Rain (James Taylor & Sheryl Crow)
07 Cross Creek Road (Sheryl Crow)
08 All through the Night (Sheryl Crow)
09 [What's So Funny 'Bout] Peace, Love and Understanding (Sheryl Crow)
10 Crossroads [Edit] (Eric Clapton & Sheryl Crow with John Mayer, Doyle Bramhall II & Robert Randolph)

Higher Ground (Sheryl Crow with Eric Clapton)
Mean to Me (Sheryl Crow)

Sheryl Crow - Real Gone - Non-Album Tracks (2006-2008)

Here's the next in my long series of stray tracks albums for Sheryl Crow.

All but one of the songs here have been officially released. The exception is "Mexico," but that one comes from a TV show and has excellent sound quality. Three others are from movie soundtracks, and still more are from various artists compilations. An additional three - "Not Fade Away," "Love Will Remain," and "So Glad We Made It" - were A-sides, though none of them were hits. About half of the songs are covers of classic songs, such as "Here Comes the Sun" and "Tulsa Time."

Speaking of covers of classics, that's what all three of the bonus tracks are. Unfortunately though, all of those come from audience bootlegs and their sound quality doesn't compare with the others.

This album is 39 minutes long, not including the bonus tracks.

01 You Can Close Your Eyes (Sheryl Crow)
02 Real Gone (Sheryl Crow)
03 Mexico (Sheryl Crow with Jackson Browne & David Crosby)
04 Here Comes the Sun (Sheryl Crow)
05 If I Were a Carpenter (Willie Nelson & Sheryl Crow)
06 Flying Machine [Edit] (Sheryl Crow, Dan Zanes & Father Goose)
07 Not Fade Away (Sheryl Crow)
08 Try Not to Remember (Sheryl Crow)
09 Juanita (Emmylou Harris & Sheryl Crow)
10 Tulsa Time (Sheryl Crow with Eric Clapton)
11 Love Will Remain (Sheryl Crow)
12 So Glad We Made It (Sheryl Crow)

Jet Airliner (Sheryl Crow with John Mayer)
Take It to the Limit (Sheryl Crow)
We Can Work It Out (Sheryl Crow & Tim Smith)

The cover photo is a publicity photo dating to 2006. Everything above the forehead wasn't included in the original. So I decided to go for a zoomed in cropping to justify the lack of having her entire head shown.

Sheryl Crow - Always on Your Side - Non-Album Tracks (2004-2005)

It feels like a really long time since I've posted a stray tracks album from Sheryl Crow, so here's another one. I'm moving forward chronologically, but as you can see, there are many more to come after this one.

Eight of the 12 songs here have been officially released. They're from soundtracks, various artists collections, and appearances on albums by other artists. The four unreleased songs aren't that different. Two of them, "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" are studio outtakes and have great sound quality. "Pride and Joy" and "Levon" are both from concerts, but also have solid sound quality.

The song "Always on Your Side" needs a bit of explanation I suppose. It first appeared on Crow's 2005 album "Wildflowers." But when the song was picked for release as a single, it seems the record company thought that turning it into a duet with another big name musician would help, so it was redone as a duet with Sting. So this is the Sting version. Some later albums contain this version as a bonus track.

This album is 46 minutes long.

01 All Kinds of People (Sheryl Crow)
02 Begin the Beguine (Sheryl Crow)
03 Old Habits Die Hard (Mick Jagger & Sheryl Crow with Dave Stewart)
04 Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain (Sheryl Crow)
05 I Never Loved a Man [The Way I Love You] (Sheryl Crow)
06 No Depression in Heaven (Sheryl Crow)
07 Blue (Zucchero & Sheryl Crow)
08 Pride and Joy (Sheryl Crow & Doyle Bramhall ll)
09 Need Your Love So Bad (B. B. King & Sheryl Crow)
10 Ring of Fire (Sheryl Crow)
11 Levon (Sheryl Crow)
12 Always on Your Side (Sheryl Crow & Sting)

Sheryl Crow - The Songs and the Stories: Sheryl Crow's Chapel, Nashville, TN, 6-18-2021

Here's a Sheryl Crow acoustic home concert that was sent to me from someone who likes this blog just today. As such, it's gone straight to the top of my big pile of albums to post.

If I'd had this back in 2021, I wouldn't have posted it, because it originally was a pay-to-view kind of thing. But time has passed and it's not even available anymore. Plus, it's already been on YouTube and some other places.

This was from a time during the Covid pandemic when Crow was unable to play with her band or in front of audiences due to fears of spreading the disease. So she did this show in the solo acoustic mode. But it was a bit different from the usual acoustic concert in that she utilized a lot of equipment to help her out. She played a few songs on piano, a couple on bass, and the rest on guitar. She also used some basic backing tracks, such as a simple drum beat on a couple of songs.

As you can guess from the title of the show, "The Songs and the Stories," this was designed to be much like the VH-1 Storytellers series, with lots of banter about nearly every song. Except she had no time limit, so it was a much longer concert than any Storytellers show I've heard of. This has a generous running time of an hour and forty minutes.

All the songs were written or co-written by Crow. The sound quality is excellent, and there were no problems needing fixing.

I still have lots of Crow's stray tracks albums to post as I continue to move forward through her career chronologically. But in the meantime, you can enjoy this one.

01 Run, Baby, Run (Sheryl Crow)
02 talk (Sheryl Crow)

Brandi Carlile - Cover Songs, Volume 7: 2020-2021

It's been a while since I posted cover albums by Brandi Carlile. I recently did a search for more, and found enough for two more volumes. This is Volume 7, and Volume 8 will follow soon.

All but four of the songs here have been officially released. Those four are: "Who Know Where the Time Goes," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," "Hard Candy Christmas," and "Blue." But those all sound very good, because they generally are from TV or radio station appearances. Note that "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" is only half of the song, because it was performed that was as part of a medley with other artists doing a tribute to Elton John.

I used the MVSEP audio editing program to remove most of the crowd noise on the songs that had crowd noise.

The rest of the songs are from typical sources for this type of thing. There are A-sides (three of them), a B-side, a movie soundtrack song, songs from tribute albums, and a duet from an Elton John album.

I have a duet version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" on Volume 2 in this series. This is a solo version done in an unusual style for this song.

This album is 53 minutes long.

Here's a list of the original artists for each song:

01 Who Know Where the Time Goes - Sandy Denny / Fairport Convention
02 A Beautiful Noise - Alicia Keys
03 Take Me Home, Country Roads - John Denver
04 Same Devil  - Brandy Clark
05 Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - Elton John
06 We Belong - Pat Benatar
07 Rocket Man [I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time] - Elton John
08 Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden
09 Searching with My Good Eye Closed - Soundgarden
10 I Remember Everything - John Prine
11 Run to Me - Bee Gees
12 Simple Things - Elton John
13 I Put a Spell on You - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
14 Hard Candy Christmas - Carol Hall (first used in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas)
15 Blue - Joni Mitchell

Here's the usual song list:

01 Who Know Where the Time Goes (Brandi Carlile & Rufus Wainwright)
02 A Beautiful Noise (Alicia Keys & Brandi Carlile)
03 Take Me Home, Country Roads (Brandi Carlile)
04 Same Devil (Brandy Clark & Brandi Carlile)
05 Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me (Brandi Carlile)
06 We Belong (Brandi Carlile)
07 Rocket Man [I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time] (Brandi Carlile & Sheryl Crow)
08 Black Hole Sun (Brandi Carlile)
09 Searching with My Good Eye Closed (Brandi Carlile)
10 I Remember Everything (Brandi Carlile)
11 Run to Me (Barry Gibb & Brandi Carlile)
12 Simple Things (Elton John & Brandi Carlile)
13 I Put a Spell on You (Brandi Carlile & Renee Elise Goldsberry)
14 Hard Candy Christmas (Brandi Carlile)
15 Blue (Brandi Carlile)
