OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY
Since their conception in 2005, The Hackens Boys have grown from a camp fire jam session to an award winning Shenandoah Valley favorite. Founding members, Josh Eye (former lead vocals/rhythm guitar), and Jeremy Swecker (former lead guitarist), coined the band name from a place in Highland County, Virginia where their family roots and traditions run deep. After being joined by Tyler Thomas (drums), and the musically versatile Linden Holsinger (bass guitar), this ambitious group began to build their dream of making music from the ground up. In 2009 Jeremy turned the lead guitar role over to Bart Morris, a life-long friend of Linden's. The bands first experience as a 5-piece came with the addition of the talented Brandon Williams (lead guitar) in 2011. Bart passed his role over to the accomplished Casey Armstrong (lead guitar) in 2012. With the departure of Josh Eye a new Josh, Josh Heizer took the mic full time in 2014.
On February 28th, 2006 The Hackens Boys played their first show as an official group, and have not looked back since. Although there have been a few line-up changes though the years, their love of making music and their goals of growth and crowd satisfaction have never wavered. In the annual Best in the Valley Survey conducted by Harrisonburg, Virginia’s Daily News Record they have been voted Best Artist (2008), Best Local Artist Featuring Original Music (2009), and Best Local Cover Band (2010-2012). They have been fortunate enough to grace the stage with various regional and national recording artists such as: Craig Morgan, Blackberry Smoke, Carbon Leaf, and Chris Knight. The summer of 2010 saw the debut release of the boy’s self-titled album with the original lineup, and in 2013 they released the popular single “Outlaw Rhythm”. 2015 will mark a new milestone for the band as they make their first appearance in the studio in 5 years to release a 7 song EP featuring all new music, and they are already working on material to Part II.
When they are not writing, recording, and performing their own material, they also occasionally moonlight as a cover band. With a unique blend of Country and Rock and tunes The Hackens Boys cover a variety of songs that are fan favorites, and some that if you don’t know, you will be singing by the end of the night. While the band specializes in Top 40 Country, they find time to fit in classic rock legends like Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZ Top; 90’s alternative artists such as Matchbox 20, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Pearl Jam; and Texas Country icons including Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, and Chris Knight. The band has played countless weddings, frat parties, graduation parties, and can provide references and reviews for those interested in booking the band for an event(see contact tab). On top of everything, the defining aspect of this band is the ever supporting fan base. “The Hack Pack” is the group who brings the party, and a major reason why The Hackens Boys have such a great time doing what they do.
