Summer Fence Sympathy

You know how every now and again you make a card that started off as a little spark of imagination and comes out so perfectly it feels like something was guiding you, well this card is one of those.

At I Did It Creations this week they are having a nature challenge and a lot of the weeks they give away a free digi image that you send a request email for. Admittedly I don't always have time to use an image I have requested but this image Summer Fence by Toucan Scraps just seemed like a perfect image for a sympathy card.

I have used a photograph of a sunset at West Super Mare that I took at the end of the pier in February. Both myself and my husband had our camera's and took a sequence of shots whilst the sun was setting in the water and the tide was coming in too. I just love the rich colours in this picture and really wanted to try and incorporate it into a card somehow, this digi seemed like the perfect marriage.

I use a graphics program called Xara and played about with the positioning of the digi. There was a particularly large ripple in the water that provided a great straight line for the bottom of the image to sit on. The sun wasn't quite in the right place so I stretched the picture a little and just kept playing with the sizing of the images until it fit together nicely. The sentiment is a PNG from the Modern Flowers Sympathy set which is a freebie from McMahon Five Design

The base of the card has been covered with a pearlescant embossed paper from Kanban Designs. I matted the image onto dark brown card and used a Martha Stewart punch to add a punched heart border to the bottom.

The ribbon was from a challenge prize I had from One Stop Crafts and for a finishing touch I added a flower grouping made with 2 Flora Doodles fabric flowers, an opened up metal beadcap and a pearl brad.

I am truly delighted with how this card has turned out. No one likes to have to give a sympathy card for obvious reasons but would be a beautiful card for the occasion.

For my card I have used two digi images, both from Toucan Scraps. I had never made a tent card and think they look really effective if you combine the right elements together. I absolutely adore lighthouses and being at the sea and really wanted to have a go at combining both the Lighthouse and Peaceful Sea images using this type of card. Both images are coloured with Promarkers.

I didn't follow any instructions but had a reasonable idea of how it would work and made it up as I went along. I used an A4 sheet of stardream card as my base and scored the lines for the base. I then scored a line in the middle of the size that was left. I used a Nestie label frame to cut out a window in the front of the card. The image is attached to the inside of the back panel with foam squares. I added some blue glitter glue around the edge for a bit of twinkle. The lighthouse has been added to the outside of the card and I use some Glossy Accents on the light at the top.

I am really please with how this has turned out. I truly love being so inspired when I initially see the digi design but when it actually comes out the way you planned it in your head it amazes me every time!!

Father's Day / Sports Collaboration

While you are there don't forget that for the Month of May we have a store collab with the theme of Father's Day & Sports which is free with a $10 purchase.

For my card this week I have used a fabulous digi called Thank You Butterfly by Toucan Scraps which is available from the store HERE

Now me, I love a bit of bling. Any excuse to use gems and glitter and I'm your girl and we have lots of both on this card :) I used a sketch from House that Stamps Built for the layout. The glittery background paper is from My Minds Eye Penny Lane collection. I have layered scraps of purple cardstock over one another, embossing the top layer and distressing with a darker purple ink. The trim is a ribbon of little white plastic flowers with diamante gem centres, it is so pretty and twinkly :)

The image has been coloured with Promarkers and mounted onto black card. I have used 3d foam to raise it off the card and added diamante gem centres. Last but not least is a beautiful glittery butterfly that is made from a feather.
