Little Grasshopper // Insect Bug Tattoo Design

I was recently contacted by a lady who has a tattoo inspired by my artwork - one of my little bumblebees on her collar bone. She asked to commission a little green grasshopper to go with the bee she already had. I thought this was a lovely idea and I jumped at the opportunity to draw more bugs! It was a fairly quick and simple commission, with one sketch and no revisions - it really felt like my own artwork from beginning to end with no outside influence/direction for a change, only that it matched the style of my previous bee illustration.

After confirming that the customer was happy with the sketch - I went ahead with some vivid colour. She also asked to purchase the original artwork from me, so I had to be extra
careful not to make any mistakes.

Tattoo: A Phoenix Risen!

A few weeks ago I accepted a commission to illustrate a phoenix in the style of my crow series from 2011,(see here). It is to be part of quite a large tattoo including the two crows which will spread over the back and up towards the shoulders. A mythological creature was a fun challenge!

After finishing the requesting colour-scheme, I then painted my own, more fiery version....this one is much more my style!

Edit: You can now purchase the red/orange phoenix as a fine art print in my Etsy shop here

Japanese Waterfall Tattoo (Sketch)

My friend Mark requested a rough sketch of a tattoo idea he has for his back! He says the idea of a Japanese waterfall came to him in a dream! Even though I'm not entirely sure his idea will work for a tattoo, (there will be soo much detail and I imagine it will take forever to have done!) this was still fun to sketch out. If he wants me to refine the idea more I definitely won't mind working on it further. These are scans from my sketchbook.

Hare Tattoo

I did a quick tattoo design for a friend, she asked for "a silhouette of a slender looking hare/rabbit". I started by making studies of hares and possible positions for it before asking her to choose which one she liked the best. I then worked on the chosen design to establish cleaner lines before going over it in pen.

She is very pleased with the result!
