- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2016Read this book!! I am a big fan of Tracy Clark's Light Key Trilogy, Scintillate (Light Key Trilogy) however, this book takes it to a whole new level. The characters are beautifully diverse and believably real. She puts the main character, Ryan, in real world scenarios, like potential loss of the family business and a retired soldier Dad with PTSD, right along side a front row experience with the super-natural. It is hard to tell where realty begins and ends. The pace is an adrenalin rush on par with the skydiving so beautifully described. I could not put it down once I started the ride. But it is not without humor and well placed levity. Clark's writing is down to earth and poetic providing a voice that makes the reader want to find their own inner bravery. I will happily read every book Tracy Clark writes! They keep getting better and better.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2016It rarely happens these days that I find a book I can't put down, but Mirage definitely had me hooked from the first chapter to the the very last page. I like that the main character, Ryan, is a 'real' teenager: she has a larger than life personality that sometimes puts her in conflict with others, she deals with a difficult relationship with her dad, she makes unwise personal choices (which leads to the unique and twisting plot of the story). I think that my own teenage girl, and many others out there, will definitely relate. As an adult who enjoys reading all types of books including young adult novels, I really was engrossed in this story, which in essence is a thriller with paranormal themes, well written, and perfectly paced.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2016From the author of the Light Tree trilogy, Tracy Clark, comes a hauntingly excellent book that mixes reality with the supernatural, making it hard to distinguish actuality from illusions.
Ryan Poitier is what most people would call an adrenaline junkie. Her PTSD-afflicted father owns a sky dive center, where Ryan freely spends her summer jumping off planes to fulfill her daredevil needs. After Ryan’s dad refuses to allow her to join the Dive Zone team, a group of divers who will compete in the X Games, she pulls a daring dive to prove a point, which results in her dad banning her from diving again.
Seeking a way to reach that same rush that she felt when diving, Ryan agrees to try LSD with her boyfriend, Dom. This experiment lands her in the hospital with the memory of seeing a face that wasn’t hers in a mirror. After avoiding death twice, Ryan decides her life is more fragile than she originally thought. Instead of participating in the thrills, she decides to watch from the sidelines. Becoming more cautious and hopeless isn’t the only thing that’s changed about Ryan --- every time she sees her reflection she finds a face staring back that is not her own. There’s a voice in Ryan’s head constantly striking fear in her…whispering threats of death. The more Ryan sees images of this girl and her blue eyes, the more paranoid she becomes, striking terror into her family and friends. Eventually her family takes her to a psychiatrist who believes her visions are hallucinations from taking LSD. As Ryan begins losing friends and the trust of her family, she tries again to become the girl she once was and find the reason why the girl in the mirror is haunting her.
Tracy Clark has a writing style that is both poetic and artistic. She blends words together to tell a story of a girl who is terrorized by a figure she calls “Death." Throughout MIRAGE, it’s difficult to tell whether there is actually a ghost haunting Ryan, or if her visions are a cause of a mental illness triggered by taking LSD. It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s not, but that is what makes this book even more interesting. Although reading MIRAGE was a bit confusing, in the end Tracy Clark pulled everything together perfectly; I couldn’t think of a better ending.
I recommend MIRAGE to those who love psychological thrillers. This novel will keep you on your toes, making you question everything that you read. It’ll be impossible to set down.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2016Tracy has a way with words! Everyone one of her books is a masterpiece! I get lost in each one, excited to pick up the book where I left off and feel really sad when it's over!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2016'Mirage' is a young adult contemporary thriller where the threat doesn't come from someone else, but from inside the main character herself. I was excited to read this book from the moment I read the description, and I wasn't disappointed. The concept of fighting a battle within oneself isn't necessarily a new one, but it hasn't been used in this way in a long time. The book is written in the first person point of view - from our main character's perspective - which made the entire story much more personal and suspenseful. I love the first person POV, and I think it was the perfect choice for the novel. Ryan was a fantastic main character and I enjoyed getting to know her - all of her - throughout the book. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I can't really say much more about the plot than what the description states. It's an interesting concept of self versus self - a raging battle between two sides of the same person. We all have aspects of ourselves that we hide or suppress as best we can, so this was a fascinating look at what can happen in someone's psyche. It's thrilling because it could possibly happen to you or someone you know - that aspect alone made the book thrilling. It's not the normal type of thriller that I'm used to reading, but it was a welcome change in the genre. I definitely recommend it to fans of thrillers, suspense, mysteries, and contemporary YA fiction!
