Art Basel: Stuffy's Photos!!! PLUS... where are they now???

Douglas Witmer sent me his Art Basel: Stuffy's photos! LOOK, this is it! The pieces on that first wall are me, Michael Lease, 3 by Drew Liverman, and Rachel Hayes. Check out all the booths!

I saw today that Drew has an EIGHT-PAGE spread in the current issue of Beautiful Decay! wow. PLUS, Rachel has a review in NYArts Magazine.

Oura Sananikone, Bruce Wilhelm, Travis Conner, Timothy Sean Johnston, Don Crow, Scott Eastwood.

Bruce has got a lot going on.... Don is back in Richmond for the summer.... Scott is where? Last thing I know is Scott made Boozefox with Drew and Jules, in Austin... and it LOOKS AMAZING... Travis is probably in a boxcar somewhere?

UPDATE: Travis RIP

That is almost the whole show, only a couple spaces not shot. One artist, Michelle Arthur, isn't pictured here, these photos were taken at the end of the show and she had just picked up her stuff.

TSJ UPDATE! Timothy Sean Johnston painting on the Guardian's blog!

Hey, one of my photos is on the the Guardian's website today! Scroll down a little bit, it's on the right. That's too funny.

Photographers!: Submit your photos for consideration. I sent a bunch... they chose that one. It would have been sweet to see the Face of Jesus on there.

WARNING! They published the brief explanatory text I included, which I didn't realize would be done. I would have maybe written something more artsy or funny or mysterious, and clearer ("my show" means the show I organized, the painting pictured is by Timothy Sean Johnston).

Thanks, Natalie!

PLUS!: As recently Seen on Other blOgs!!

on NYC artist Paddy Johnson's Art Fag City!
on Philadelphia painter Douglas Witmers blog!
on Richmond artist Fiona Ross's Aprotropaia!
on Indianapolis artist and curator's On the Cusp!
on Richmond photographer Michael Lease's blog!

Timothy Sean Johnston has posted some NEW paintings to his website... he is GOOD. HERE it is BIGGER. We included six of his paintings in the fair. I bought the painting that Jerry lingered over, the one we had first seen at Gallery5 back in June.

You can see more of Jerry's visit here.

Jerry Saltz at Art Basel: Stuffy's!!!

Jerry Saltz visited Art Basel: Stuffy's!!! I'm so lucky that I happened to go to Stuffy's for a meatball sandwich and recognized him! What are the odds?

I wonder if this art fair will get on Artnet??? He seemed to take a lot of notes.

Sorry for all the bad cropping and angles, I was trying to be inconspicuous.

He looked at Barbara Tisserat's piece for a long time. I could hear him softly whispering.. "hello my lovelies, my pretties"... it was a little creepy.

AAARRGHH!!! He walked right by my painting! This is the SECOND TIME he has done this! Bastard!! He did the same thing last year at Scope Miami, when I was sitting out front with a bunch of paintings. I can't get a break.

Admiring one of Rachel Hayes' two pieces.

Studying one of Timothy Sean Johnston's paintings. He kept that same expression throughout the entire show, he is THAT intense. I guess maybe that is his poker-face?

I couldn't figure out what he was thinking AT ALL.

Timothy Sean Johnston

Timothy Sean Johnston
Timothy Sean Johnston is one of the artists included in Gallery5's current exhibition of graffiti and graffiti-ish work. I think a number of these artists are taggers and better known to many by their tags. Can't match names with tags here, they are all wanted.

The opening was fun - the gallery erected a big wall out front for anybody to paint on, good bands, the police, beer, and good art. Timothy Sean Johnston (more work below) was one of my favorites, along with Oura Sananikone. I'll post more artists later.

This is an excellent show and the second-best graffiti show in town. The best is here. Does anybody have a name or alias for this artist? I am a huge fan.

UPDATE 6/4/07: the mystery artist linked to above is known as Judith Supine, now "famous" in New York.
