MOT

Art & Music, at The Museum of contemporary Art, Tokyo... aka MOT. yeah wow those are some bad titles.

Bartholomaus Traubeck, Years, 2011 - disks of wood.. birch, maple, pear... he made a computer program that photographically 'reads' the rings, cracks, and stains as it spins and interprets the data as piano, creating sound, really music... it isn't exactly the same every time, it's a generative process which depends where on the disk it starts reading, and other factors... but each disk has a distinct sound and is easily distinguished. Listen here.

I think he first showed these with Lisa Ruyter in Vienna.

Otomo Yoshihide limited ensembles - Otomo Yoshihide, Yasutomo Aoyama, Sachiko M, Kanta Horio, Yuko Mohri

Johnnie Walker - (with an Australian curator, can't remember her name I will try to find it) - legendary supporter of the Tokyo art scene... he goes to everything, he came to the show I was in with Tom Sanford in 2002.

Yohei Okada

Yohei Okada, Warped, at Art LAB's Over The Border, at Ai Kowada.

Not sure what the space is really... It's like the Ai Kowada project space, within Ai Kowada... but maybe run by another entity, there is no mention of it on the Ai Kowada site.

The souvenir spoons are Uri Geller portraits. I thought they were Dali maybe, but there is no moustache.

Warped Uri Geller records... they still play... but the sound is distorted.

Geller with Dali.

Haha okay.

bent!

All of these are pics of Uri Geller with other people, in which Okada has substituted his own face.

It's an illusion!

Kohei Kajihara

Kohei Kajihara, at Kodama Gallery.

Okay it's actually a four-person show, but my attention was mostly on the Kajiharas. That is Kohei Kajihara on the floor studying the sculpture by Masakazu Takatori.

Kohei Kajihara... he did the green weirdo... the other painting is by Akira Takaishi, also good... but all my pics are Kajiharas which were my faves.

Real Wine in Real Glasses! Very nice small building with a gallery on each of four floors... coordinated openings... wow so nice and easy for Tokyo. Refreshing.

The contemporary art galleries in the building are Kodama, Yamamoto Gendai, and Arataniurano.

Kodama Gallery... the Director? I will try to get his name and add it.

Yuko Murata

Yuko Murata, at Gallery Side 2.

she is making 'stones' too. there is one on the floor.

a drawing/painting... not really 'in' the show... the moon reflected on the water - or snow? - is glittery.
