The train station in Lille is a part of a bigger masterplan called EuraLille by Rem Koolhas together with his OMA and AREP practices.
The station designed in 1994 and built by Agence des Gares ( SNCF) is directed to the city centre and was intended to serve many functions: through station for TGV and Eurostar international travelers, the bridge, the tunel , offices and many retail units.
The building itself is a long three - level viewing terrace with glazed curtain envelope and covered with wavy metal structure roof- called the flying carpet. The key idea was to keep arrivals of train as transparent as possible in order to make it memmorable event.
The adjoining complex of office buildings and business centre with very characteristic shoe like building was designed by Rem Koolhas himself.
