About the blog title

In 1929, Virginia Woolf published an extended essay, based on her lectures at a women's college at Cambridge University in 1928. One of the many questions Woolf ponders in this book is whether or not a female writer could produce art of the high quality of Shakespeare. She agrees it's possible, but she says: "a woman must have a room of her own if she is going to write."
