Spot the Difference!

Can you spot the difference between these two copies of my second book, Super-Cute Felt Animals?

... yup, that's right, one of them is in German!

My first book, Super-Cute Felt has been translated into German, Dutch and Italian but each of those editions had a slightly different look than the original English edition (a hardback instead of a paperback, a slightly different cover, etc).

This time round though, Super-süße Filzfreunde: 35 Lieblingstiere nähen und besticken is almost identical - apart from being in a different language, of course! - which made it extra surreal to flick through when I got hold of a copy this week.

Most of the animals in the book have names - you can make "Frida the Forgetful Frog", "Lucy the Laughing Snail", "Sidney the Fluffy Squirrel", and so on. It's really fun to see the different names the animals have been given in this new edition!

For example, you can sew "Frieda, das fröhliche Flusspferd", "Gwendolin, die hungrige Giraffe", "Isidor, der glückliche Igel" and "Klara, die kichernde Krabbe":

I also loved seeing the different animal sounds in the speech bubbles that are dotted through the book:

Wuff! Wuff! (instead of Woof! Woof! in the English edition)

Ruu-kuuhh! (Coo! Coo!)

Piep! Piep! (Cheep! Cheep!)

Schnapp! (Snap!)

Fancy making your own felt animals? Super-Cute Felt Animals is available to buy from Amazon UK, Amazon USA, The Book Depository and many other bookshops. Super-süße Filzfreunde is available from Amazon UK and Amazon DE and (hopefully!) many German bookshops :)

P.S. when the book came out I shared a series of free projects to mix and match with the designs in Super-Cute Felt Animals. You can find all the tutorials here.

My Books... in German and Italian!

I've got a fun bit of news to share today: my second book, Super-Cute Felt Animals has just been published in German as Super-süße Filzfreunde: 35 Lieblingstiere nähen und besticken:

And my first book, Super-Cute Felt, has been published in Italian as Feltro. 35 progetti step by step:

It's weird and exciting having something you've written translated into another language!

I'm really looking forward to getting copies of these editions and and seeing all the translated projects :)

Super-Cute Felt is also available in German (Lieblingsstücke aus Filz) and in Dutch (Creatief Met Vilt).

Creatief Met Vilt

I got a wonderful bit of post yesterday - a copy of the Dutch edition of my first book!

Super-Cute Felt was published in Dutch last year under the title Creatief Met Vilt. Let's not talk about how long it's taken me to get around to ordering a copy, haha! :)

The Dutch edition is a bit shorter than the English edition, with 23 projects instead of 35, but otherwise the pages look very much the same... just, you know, in Dutch!

It's quite strange seeing something so familiar look so different and to see something I've written translated into a language I don't speak a word of (well, maybe three words now Google Translate informs me that Creatief Met Vilt means Creative with Felt!).

Super-Cute Felt has also been translated into German (as Lieblingsstücke aus Filz), so now I have three different editions sitting on my bookshelf. So thrilling.

365 / 209 - Bits and Pieces

Oops, almost forgot to blog today. Tsk tsk. I have been busy doing lots of things, which is almost a good excuse but really I just forgot!

Lots of sewing yesterday:
Finished a batch of battenburg brooches (two slightly wonky ones, being listed at a reduced price cos they turned out a bit "homebaked" looking!) and another stripey ribbon brooch... and then got started on a few more batches of things. Lots of designs in need of restocking at the moment, and my wip box is full of pieces I've cut out and not yet sewn together. So: made a start on sewing some acorns, some tree stumps and some cute little red umbrellas. Fingers crossed that I get them finished soon and they don't just end up back in my wip box!

In non-crafty news today I've been doing some housework (quite out of character) and tending to my Dawanda shop. I'm gradually filling up my shop, and making a start on properly translating my listings into German. You can list in English, French and German on Dawanda and at the moment my French & German listings are a bit of a cheat - simple English with a couple of translated phrases like "Felt brooch" - which will not do at all in the long term. The German listings are getting a makeover first, and then I'll turn my attention to the French (definitely my weaker language!). I'm rather excitedly planning a couple of "Dawanda vocab" sheets full of categoriesed words and phrases for use in my future listings, because I am a NERD and I like that sort of thing :)
