WWI Jaegers, Gondorians, Victrix French Line and Dragon Rampant Game: Men versus Goblins

Hello Distinguished Viewer,

Today, we have  number of miniature paint jobs completed and a bloody battle using the Dragon Rampant rule.

First up are eighteen Wargames Foundry WWI German Jaegers.

Here, they are looking the other direction.  They'd paint faster if they didn't wear those damned packs.

Here are six Gondorian archers.  They were a gift from Stan, a miniature enthusiast who hates GW bases.
I think they look better without the big plastic pedestals.

Here's five more.  The shields are a real whore to get right.
Here they are fighting some Cthulhu-like prepainted creature that I rebased.
A RAFM Roman and two out of production Bretonians.
I think the Bretonians will be completely discontinued, now that stupid GW killed the "Old World".
Here's a little scenery litter I finished.  Some resin barrels of unknown manufacture and a couple of those walls of weapons you see in movies, before the hero's do a musical montage posing with guns and loading green bags with random guns and ammo.

Here are some used French I bought off of Xenophon.  You may know Xenophon from TMP.

All I've done is rebase them.  Xeno had them multi-based on large wooden bases.

Here are a few more marching into battle.  If you look closely you may see one of Napoleon's Marshals behind them.

Now on to some Dragon Rampant.  Men vs Goblins.  The men brought three units of strong infantry and some heavy horsemen.
The goblin force consisted of three Ogres, two measly units of goblins, and a couple giant spiders.

Ready to smash the green beasts into mush my brave men move forward quickly.

The left wing has no fear of three stupid ogres.

As we march, we find out the goblin creatures are armed with bows.

and the spiders crash into the lead element.
We shake off the bugs, but lose some more troops.
With the bugs out of the way, they charge on to kill half the goblins.
But sadly they are wiped out by the goblin marksmen.   Ok, plan B, avoid the goblins and take out the ogres.  The brave horsemen charge the ogres.

The horsemen fail to kill any ogres.
So the infantry try and get punished as well.

The depleted cavalry try to charge he goblins instead.

The ogres keep killing my men.  So the men run away.

The goblins have wiped out the cavalry.  Only one unit left and they allow the goblins to put arrows in themselves and run away.

Goblin park.

Till next time, when I'll have a more minis completed.  There's at least 30 or 40 guys who just need some sand and flock.

Love and Kisses,

Victrix Lutzow Free Corps Jagers and a Three Wolf Moon

Hello,

I've finished a Prussian unit, Lutzow's Free Corps Jagers.  The models are actually Victrix plastic Austrian Landwehr (1808-1815) models, but they were close enough.

The Jagers were allowed to wear their gray Tyrolean national uniforms, probably because nobody wanted to pay for a switch.  I picked them for the change of color, wanting a change from Prussian blue.   I am ready to paint blue again.

"Minwax dip burns my unpainted eyes"

Why are jager models in the marching pose?  Because the Victrix boxes come with 56 models, and I'll do action poses some other day.

Here's most of my Prussians; I'm going to have to buy more soon.
When all your lead is painted you die

Lastly I crudely tried to paint a "Three Wolf Moon" t-shirt on a Victory Force zombie.  The model isn't done yet, but it makes me giggle and wanted to share.

The Alpha Male Zombie strikes fear in the hearts of men and is irresistible to women
Hopefully the magical healing powers associated Three Wolf Moon shirts will cure his deadness.

Bombed Out City Beginnings and Random Painting Progress

Hello,

I've started work on a stupid big bombed out city table for modern skirmish, zombie, sci-fi, and post apocalyptic games.  This first piece is going to be a 9 level office building.  Theres alot of work left, but the skeleton is almost done.
a 1:43 scale car for size comparison, ignore the unpainted lead in the background

Interior shot, I made the levels taller than a normal office building would be to allow room for human hands the room needed to shuffle around toy army men.

Heres's a small shot of the front, I'll need to add window pieces.

Here's a shot of the back showing some of the remaining floors.  I couldn't resist putting little men on it.

I've also been painting a little.  First are a Perry Miniatures French 12 pound artillery crew.  They are standing in front of the gun, to hide my shame that I haven't finished the gun.  You'll notice the Prussian Blue is shiney looking, my matte simply doesn't remove the gloss off of blue.

Next is a random shmattering of miniatures.  I keep piles of loose minis around when painting large batches of minis to absorb leftover paint.  Left to right:  GW Griffin crew, old plastic space marine scout, RAFM copper from thier Cthulhu line, Foundry? Old Guard, two ugly Old Glory WW1 late war British, and a GW wizard.

Here's a pack of brown minis.  I spilt some Vallejo English Uniform and these guys took it up.  Left to right:  GW Bretonian fanatics (only  GW would think it's a good idea to go into battle with paper strapped to your face?), two Old Glory Vampire hunting priests, and a GW LoTR hobbit archer.

Here's a Herroclix Dr Xaxier painted to look like a zombie in a wheelchair.  On the ground is one of Spiderman's Amazing Friends (Starfire?) painted to look like a beheaded naked lady.  The Naga that still needs washing and highlighting is a Warlord Games Dacian head glued on a green stuff doodie.

Lastly are some wet looking Victrix Old Guard Grenadiers that I have finally based.  They photograph glossy, but aren't that bad looking in person.  Maybe I'm lieing to myself as I'm too lazy to risk frosting with more coats of matte spray.

Grognards, Blucher, Lutzow, Austrian Victrix Landwehr Sprues

Hello,

I've almost finished painting a 24 piece Victrix French Old Guard Grenadiers.  They pretty much need a clear dull coat and thier basing finished.  I am not leaving the command staff on GW bases; they are only white glued to those to aid in painting/handling.

I hope I did the top of the bear skins correctly

I would be done with the Grenadiers, but starting painting these for the New Mexico State Fair.  NM has military models and miniatures as a category in the Arts and Crafts competitions.  The models aren't really that shiny in person, I left a gloss on the horses, in the hopes that it would make them look sweaty.  I hope I win a ribbon, will find out Tuesday.  The judges are from the Albuquerque Scale Modelers club and the competition will probably be tough.
General Blucher/ADC and General Lützow

I recently picked up a box of Austrian Landwehr to make Prussian Freikorps Jaegers and Brunswick Jaegers; I thought others may be interested in what you get. There's 56 minis for 30 something dollars, not bad.

Hello,

command sprues, you get TWO of these

regular sprue, you get EIGHT of these, only 3 body types

here's the standards you can cut out and use, if you don't like making your own

Warlord Le Deal

First post in 9 months.  I was out of the country and unable to play with my toys, but now that I'm back I intend to play and post far more often.

I'd been saving my play money up for about six months and ordered the "Le Deal - French" from Warlord, and wanted to post a pic and ramble on about what a great deal it is.  For $173 (free shipping) I got four boxes of Perry French Line, 2 boxes Perry French Heavy Cavalry, 1 box Perry French Hussars, 1 box Perry French Dragoons, 1 box Victrix Old Guard Grenadiers, and a Victrix blister containing two mounted French officers and a Pioneer.

That totals up to 235 foot, 57 mounted, and twelve casualty miniatures for $173.  I can't think of a better deal anywhere.

Due to the fact I saved so much money I had extra cash to spend on some Prussians:  Two boxes of Perry Prussian Line and a box of Warlord Prussian Landwehr.

The Warlord minis have the most extensive packaging.  Sprues are wrapped in plastic and separated by card board.  Perry and Victrix just toss the mini sprues in the box.

In the Landwehr box, you get thirty models:  three metal and 27 plastic.  The plastics consist of nine sprues with only three poses.  There are two swords for every three men, the third has a little ax on his belt.  I didn't know the Landwehr actually had blades.

Here's the three metal minis that come in the box:

I also made an order from the Perry Brother, due to the fact that Warlord doesn't carry Perry metals.  The French needed cannon, so I picked up three line artillery six pounder sets.  This was the first crew painted.

I saw that the Perry's sell a Fusilier conversion kit for the Musketeer boxes and picked one of those up.  It includes four command figures and different backpacks.  The only real differences I saw was that they had straight blades instead of curved.  Two Prussian boxes and the conversion kit allow you to actually create four Black Powder size units.  96 models total:  one small unit of twelve Jagers and three regular units 28 musketeers.

I also picked up one Perry Prussian six pounder piece to see how they compared to my Old Glory Prussian Artillery.  The Perry models are definitely better sculpts and a little bit taller; the OG model is on the far right; you can't tell the Perry models are taller in this picture, but I swear they are.

The Dragoons come with thirteen mounted models and eight dismounted models.  You can't dismount the whole unit.  So I picked up three of the two miniature dismounted sprues so I could dismount the whole unit.  13 minis will make a small unit of skirmishers in Black Powder.  Luckily the mounted sprues come with extra chests for the leadership.  I'll simply cut some of the models in half and put the leadership chests on lowly enlisted legs.  Here's the six I've painted already.

Delivery wise the Perry Package made it all the way to Washington State in less than two weeks.  The Warlord delivery took 32 days, but they were kind enough to email me we the order had been processed and mailed.  The Perry Brothers robot doesn't even email you a receipt for your purchase.
