Monochromatic doesn't necessarily mean blacks and whites...
"Monochromatic colour schemes are derived from a single base hue and extended using its shades, tones and tints. Tints are achieved by adding white and shades and tones are achieved by adding a darker colour, grey or black."
As you can see I have made another tag, and opted for reds...
I've used loopy cord, satin 3mm, heart buttons, and Joy Love Peace ribbon.

This is gorgeous Laura! I'd love to hear any tips you might have to stop ribbon from fraying when I cut it.
ReplyDeleteAlways use super sharp scissors, preferably a pair only used for ribbon.
DeleteSatin and organza are always desperate to fray so sealing the ends is the best option. You can use loads of different things, pva glue, glossy accents, matte medium, gel medium, clear nail varnish, stickles/glitter glue... basically anything clear that dries.
You can also 'show a flame to the ends' as I heard said. It melts then fibres together. I don't do this because I value my fingers and eyebrows!!
You can sometimes get away with leaving the ends of grosgrain ribbon, but if I know it is going to be touched a lot I use matte medium on that too.
All ribbon is less inclined to fray if cut in a fishtail shape or diagonal rather than horizontal.

Brilliant! Thanks Laura! I have a pair of scissors for cutting fabric which are very sharp so I'll make those my ribbon scissors and try some clear nail varnish to stop the fraying. I'm waaaaay too accident prone to consider using a flame. :-D
