Cards | Colour Throwdown 757

A trio of 'congratulations on passing your driving test' cards.  Why a trio?  Hmm, I do only need one but I figure if I'm playing with this many stamps I may as well stamp multiples!   I would not want to do this type of project without a MISTI.  Mind you, I don't really enjoy any form of stamping without a MISTI these days.  It's such a good tool and a must have in my craft room. I started off going through my stamp sets and pulling out anything positive and congratulatory.  I also threw in a Vrooom! and a Beep! for good measure! I arranged them in my MISTI, snuggling them together in a pleasing way with as few gaps as possible.  Gaps don't matter all that much as it's easy to go back and fill the in with a second phase of stamping. I picked my inks based on this week's Colour Throwdown challenge.  To mix things up I did one background with ombre stamping. I pulled out a few dies from my stash... I wanted to pop up a section or panel of ...

Cardmaking | Challenges!

The batch of challenges that came out at the beginning of the month all struck a chord with me.  I've made a couple of cards to enter it to a few challenges... First up we have a mini slimline based on a sketch from There's A Stamp For That and the Colour Throwdown palette. The ephemera is from Cocoa Vanilla Studio.  The hearts and the heart strip are scraps fom die cutting experiments.  The stamping is from a couple of Alex Syberia stamp sets.  The background stamping is meant to be subtle and just to add some texture rather than be super readable. Here's the sketch and swatch: Of course, I've missed the link up for CTD, doh!  I have very little physical energy available at the moment but a lot of thinking and creative energy.  It's a really frustrating pairing! (But much better than having nothing of anything!)  Also fits Simon's slimline challenge which I may sneak into on time. Then I have this green and gold birthday card...   This one is f...

Cards | The Colour Throwdown

Each week I think, "oh, I'll play along with the colour throwdown this week" and make a start on a card.  Very rarely do I finish the card on time and get it shared! I think this one will sneak in before the deadline... I started out with the geometric dies from Simon Says Stamp and a whole bunch of colourful papers.  I started with the 9-square square card.  There's nothing wrong with it but I wasn't loving it.  Perhaps it is too much, so I tried a smaller 6-square A6 (UK sizing) card.  Still not loving it.  I played around with the remaining pieces I had die cut and came up with card 3 - a mini slimline-ish sized card.  It's actually the size that the die cuts took up rather than measured to a standard size!  I'll have to make a custom envelope.   Now it makes sense... I need the white!  I struggle with the other two as there is no white cardstock for my eye to rest from all of the colour.  With that in mind I continued on...

Colour Throwdown | #582

I have been stalking the Colour Throwdown blog this year but have yet managed to get something made and shared by the deadline...  I think I'm going to make it this week, fingers crossed! Here is the swatch that inspired the colours. I made three cards using the same stamp which is a few years old and from Concord & 9th.  I embossed with white powder on to three different types of kraft. The first card was colour with Polychromos pencils, mounted on to white and embellished with a few sequins. The second is roughly painted with a couple of mists mixed with mica powders.  The mica is making the colours show on the kraft, without it the sink into the kraft card and barely show up. I was very loose with the painting and added a few splatters too. I added a gold high five sticker.  I think I need a stamp that says high five - are there any out there you can let me know of?  And finally a piece painted with the mica/mist mix....
