Wagtail

Now I've started working with More Than Words from Cocoa Vanilla I just can't stop!  I love this collection! I've combined the blues, greys and yellows with watercolour for this layout. I added a fair bit of sewing.  I worked on watercolour paper and it's not always great at accepting glue... easily solved by using the sewing machine!! I love how the watercolour granulated.  I went for enamel dots instead of sequins - don't worry... I'm not turning my back on sequins for long! I included a journalling pocket to hold a tag/PL card. You can watch it all come together here Thanks for stopping by!

ATC's

Hello!  I'm here today to share some recent ATC’s… They are part of a deck of cards for Jessica Brogan's swap .  ATC’s – or artists trading cards – are usually small pieces of art (64mm x 89mm) swapped between artists.  Rather than working on a small scale to begin with I work on a larger sheet to make my mixed media backgrounds.  For me this is just playing with watercolours or Shimmerz, acrylics, modelling pastes etc until something starts to form.  Then when I get an idea, I follow it! This batch of cards use quite a few SpiegelMom Scraps products.  In the background I have used some Shimmerz colourings and dazzlerz .  My feature embellishment on some of the cards are the gorgeous Birds of a Feather Felties is Aqua/Blues and Green/Rust.  And of course I cannot make anything without using sequins – I’ve used some from green machine and some from lucky charm . Thanks so much for stopping by today!

PREEN

Happy NSD!  (Expect a fair few posts starting with these words over this weekend!!)  I am here to share with you my regular Saturday post for SpiegelMom Scraps . I've been experimenting with the white felt feathers .  I wanted to know if they would take colour - they do!  I sprayed the feathers with water and sprinkled on some brusho powders.  I needed a lot of water to get the colour moving but I love the results.  Now I know I can alter any of the white felt shapes to any colour to match whichever project I am working on. I dyed these ones to match my budgie's feathers - yellows, greens and a little blue in the long tail feather.  The different sized yellow sequins in the Spring Blooms and Sunny Smiles mixes match in perfectly.  Other than that I kept it fairly simple layering each feather over a piece of cotton ribbon tape and stitching with my sewing machine to attach to the layout. I added my alphas directly to my photo ...

Under His Wings

Hello Hello!   Today I am featured on the SpiegelMomScraps blog.   I’m sharing a mini texture canvas with a Bible verse quote... The canvas is around 10 cm square, so it's quite a diddy little thing.  It is packed with texture from the stencil work, the dimpled canvas, felt and sequins. I hand wrote the Bible verse and cut each word out individually.  As it is stuck over the textured background it leaves lovely shadows adding depth to the piece. I have used: Felt feathers and Believee in You sequins from SMS as well as: Derwent art bars, stencil (I think it's from Julie Fei Fan Balzer?) and texture paste. Thanks for stopping by!

A-Z - Q is for Quill

I'm back with the second instalment of 2016's alpha/dictionary/nature project.  Q is for quill.  It couldn't be anything else!  I had one and a half a pages of q words to chose from and none of the others were even remotely nature-linked or drawable! Lets talk brown pens.  This is outlined with an American Crafts Slick Liner.  I've tried the Staedtler fine liner and also tried every brown gel pen I could find.  To me they are not the right colour!  They are brown but not 'proper' brown.  Can you see what I mean?  The pen is slightly purple-claret based and next to the chocolate-earth tones in the feather and the old paper colours... I just feel it's just not quite right.  Help me out, won't you?   What are your favourite brown pens?  (It does show better in real life!) I had a play with my Derwent art bars as they were the perfect shades of brown.  I used them as watercolours though, rather than drawing with t...

Happiest Creating

Hopefully you are back today having seen yesterdays step-by-step to making this background.  This is the finished layout...  I pulled out the dry background and headed over to Like For Ever's Scrappy Challenge.  The starting point this fortnight is use materials beginning with your initials.  Excellent - Lace and Ribbon... but what about J?  Well I went for Juniper - the shade of Derwent Graphitint pencil I coloured my feathers and added to the background.  (You know me, using ribbon and lace was not a challenge at all!  I may come back to this challenge and push myself if time allows in the next couple of weeks!) I pulled out some white papers, some organza swiss dots , a couple of grosgrain 3mm , some white lace , and a shade of purple lace that was as close a match to my juniper coloured pencil as possible.  All the lace and ribbon is, of course, from Crafty Ribbons .  I used a few simple paper layers and then tucked little pie...

Rooooar!

Here is my take on the scrap 365 sketch challenge.  I was really inspired by Jennifer Grace 's video.  I don't know what it is about watching people scrap but I just love it! I used a wordy background paper and circled a few poignant words. I rotated the sketch to give area of interest at the top and bottom rather than the sides. All of the materials for this layout came from my Counterfeit Kit . I'm managing to use a sticker or two per layout this month after discovering during July that I just don't use stickers! So there it is.  I like it, and I'm pleased to have a) finished the doily vellum and b) used some of the feathers that I thought I would never use!!  (They came in my bundle of goodies that Ashley purged and I bought a few months back.  There is so much lovely stash, but the feathers... I really thought I'd struggle to use them!) Thanks for stopping by!

Just A Small One...

I'm playing along at Counterfeit Kit Challenge again this month. The kit to forge for August is from Studio Calico... My notes about the kit said; white, kraft, teal. yellow, stars, white with gold dots, coral-y, black and white words, feathers.  circles, postage stamps, clouds, mask, transparent, diamonds, doilies, wooden alphas. yellow and white fringe, pink twine. vellum, watercolour paper. There were a few extras listed for sale along side the kit, vellum and watercolour paper took my eye, I added them because when you make your own kit you can also make your own rules!  :) My papers include yellow, teal, kraft and coral.  I added a gold dot vellum and a cloud transparency.  I searched for anything 'doily-like' in my stash and this half sheet of gold foiled vellum is it - absolutely nothing else!!  I added a star mask too. I didn't think one set of alphas were enough, but I may have over done it!!  I'm not expecting to u...
