Silk Ribbon Leaves

This project started with one idea, circled through a couple more ideas and ended up being one of my favourite creations so far this year. I started with some heart confetti cut on my Silhouette Cameo and Rose Gold Red Vibez from Shimmerz.  I was inspired by my friend Mary to have a good at a bokeh-type background.  You can see how in the video posted below. That was just playing with no plan in place for the finished piece.  I decided to go the ribbon route and make it a DT piece for Crafty Ribbons.  I picked a few ribbons and dyed them with the same spray. I then decided it needed some green, and what better than some silk leaves... I also added silk twists to the centre of my vellum flower.  I'd have used french knots if I knew how to do them ;) I used the following ribbons from Crafty Ribbons:  Organza Swiss Dots ; Seam Binding ; Silk Ribbons . Here is the process: Thanks for stopping by! Crafty Ribbons are runnin...

Ribbon Embroidery meets Scrapbooking - take 1!

There seems to be a real trend for ribbon embroidered flowers at the moment.  I have no experience in this but thouoght I'd try to combine it with my love of scrapbooking.  In hindsight I should have learnt the art of ribbon embroidery first before attempting to do it on cardstock and over a photo.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing! Any how it turned out OK in the end.  The photo is of blooms way past their best so I added some brown watercolour to my silk ribbon flowers to make it look like they had turned too. You can find some ribbon embroidery kits from Crafty Ribbons (with good clear instructions) here and a huge stash of silk ribbons here .  I have used pieces from a scrap bag which is a great way to get started. Despite the trickyness and frustration it is safe to say I will be trying this again.  I'll be stocking up on silk ribbon too, as they are lovely to work with! I added some spotty tissue paper and sequins too.  I do...

Fairy Jar

I have something a little out of the ordinary to share with you today... It's a ribbon fairy in a jar of mushrooms!  Bear with me here...  ;) The first thing I thought of when I saw the Spring Ribbon Mushrooms from Crafty Ribbons was fairies.  I decided to try and make a miniature fairy to live among the mushrooms. I've used a couple of beads for her head and body, 2mm silk ribbon for her arms and legs, seam binding and silk ribbon for her skirt and lace for her wings. I also made a couple of mushrooms from Swiss Dot grosgrain and wire stems.  I suspended the fairy on a thread so it looks like she is flying. Totally bonkers but so much fun! Thanks for stopping by!

Gift Bag

I'm up on the Crafty Ribbons Inspiration blog today getting those Christmas craft juices flowing! I took a plain white bag and gave it a good spritz with gold spray ink.  I concentrated more colour at the top of the bag and let it fade out towards the bottom.  You can pick up blank paper bags at most craft stores, or recycle ones you have been given.  I've taken two ribbons from the Santa's Grotto range and painted the backs with matte medium.  When this is dry it allows you to fussy cut the ribbon without fraying.  I matted the large motif on to some gold mirror card, and layered it up over a couple of pieces of lace. I then added two of the tag motifs to the base of the handle.  Perfect for giving a gift this Christmas, not terribly time consuming, and even something you can get the kids to join in with... go on, do some Christmas crafting!!
