Laura Rumble - Crafter

I'm part of a little scrappy YouTube hop today with this project. The theme was new beginnings and the challenge was to use something out of your comfort zone. I've gone for a scraptherapy style 6x8 spread featuring a caterpillar and lots of (shock horror) pink! I don't like pink - not sure if I've ever mentioned that!  I do love caterpillars and butterflies and the concept of mushing down to nothing and re-emerging as a beautiful delicate being that flutters so gracefully. The majority of  the supplies are from the latest Lollipop Box Club kit called Alice's Tea Party. Here's the video... In the mood for a mood board that is! Have you seen SpiegelMom Scraps January challenge over in 15 Minutes to Scrap ?  It has been set by the lovely Hannah Lemieux and it is to use this mood board as inspiration.  Hannah also asks us to pay particular attention to textures and use one of the textures displayed in the mood board. When I start scrapping based on a mood board the first thing I notice are the colours.  I adore these colours - rich teals, metallics and greys are what stand out to me most.  However, you could also run with duck egg, wood, and white with a pop of mustard. Next, I notice the finishes - wood grain, velvet, hammered metal and - my favourite - woollen pompoms.  Seeing as Hannah specified texture I thought I would attempt to make some mini pompoms for my layout.  After five attempts I came up with something usable and gathered some other supplies... I knew I wanted to make a segmented sequin shaker pocket from vellum....

Alas no tree this week.  I haven't managed to put it up yet.  But I have found something else to make me smile... I dressed the boys' beers up as Rudolph!! Self adhesive googly eyes, a pompom and pipe cleaners. Linking up at Friday Smiles

...but it ended so right! It's my turn over at the Inspirations blog and today I'm sharing my tale of a ribbon pom pom that went very wrong but ended up as a rather nice sweetie dish. I started out by gathering a collection of green ribbons: gingham, grosgrain , sheer , velvet , dots , glitter bling and more! I attempted to make a pom pom but it looked awful - just like a bundle of dead ribbon!  I un-tied it and sat looking in horror at this pile of ruined ribbon... Then an idea struck - what if I tied these little bits around another piece of ribbon and wrapped it around the stem of a glass?  And this is what the sorry pile of ribbon became... So the moral is even if something you are trying to create goes wrong don't give up!  Keep thinking it through and trying different things - you never know what you will come up with!
