Shape Series | Heart Makes

Here's a round up of some heart themed makes from the last few weeks. First up is a heart embossed background for a CAS(ish) card.  Coverplate from Time For Teas Designs, bird stamp from MFT, sequins and sentiment from Pretty Pink Posh.  I love the quilt-y puffiness of embossing with a coverplate but I'm never completely sure the best way to capture it in a photo. Now a run of layouts, some more 'hearty' than others.  I really wanted to use up as many of my puffy heart stickers as possible.  It became clear that just a scattering per layout wasn't going to do the job... My cut file, patterned paper from Pinkfresh Studio, bits and bobs from the depths of my stash.  (This type of cut file is great as you get two usable pieces, one the opposite of the other.  Picture where this is blue being white and where this is white being blue.  I'll share the other layout soon...) I changed tack and went all out with the stickers... This is based on an old sketch of...

Stick It Down | Rainbow Again

Here is my take on Stick It Down 's May single page sketch.  As always do check out the Stick It Down site for a double page sketch and a card sketch plus a tonne of inspiration from the design team. I have gone rainbow coloured again.  If there's an option to go rainbow at the moment I definitely will!  I've used a cut file from Pretty My Page.  (If it's not linked then it hasn't been released just yet.)  Perhaps the best part of creating a rainbw layout is the flicking through of stash, whether that is cardstock, embellishments or, in this case, patterned papers.  I wanted to add a couple of tiny word stsickers but they were different shades of black and different fonts.  They just didn't look right together.  Instead, I spelt out the two phrases with tiny tile alphas. Embellishing was kept simple and minimal.  Just a sprinkling of rainbow sequins and a black and white camera sticker. Embellishing so minimally lets...

Scrapbooking | Minc Foiling

I had myself a marathon Minc session foiling everything I could lay my hands on.  It sounds like an extravagant exageration but it's closer to the truth than you'd think! Amongst the big boxes of shiny treasure I eneded up with was a rainbow of butterflies which were calling out to be used together.  I took inspiration from the Lottie Loves Paper group on Facebook and an old layout by Marie - that is where the circular design came from. I added some sewing (which got mostly covered up) and a lot of black and gold splatter.  I mixed 3 colours of mica powder in to a few drops of Liquitex black ink.  I'm seeing it as a failed experiment as the effect was minimal.  I think maybe the black pigment was so strong that it overpowered the mica or I just didn't add enough.  Anyway, if you look really close you may spot a tad of shimmer! I added a few word stickers and some big black enamel dots and called it good.  It's VERY shiny and that makes...

Card Making | Rainbow

Such a simple card to make but it packs a punch, dontcha think? The rainbow is made up of strips of card glued together. That is popped up on a black panel which is on a white card base. I stamped and heat embossed a white sentiment on the black panel using a Skull and Cross Buns stamp and Wow! embossing powder. I finished off with a few sparkles from Lucy's Cards.

Scraplifting A Card | Laura Bassen

One of my favourite card makers to watch on YouTube is Laura Bassen.  This video inspired me to make a layout... I started off gathering a rainboow of cardstock.  When making your own rainbow you are in charge of the colours so I made sure there was extra green and no pink!  I cut squares that were about 37mm - I was lining up to a mark on my mini guillotine which just happened to be 37mm.  I then chopped each square in half, and one of the resulting triangles in half. The gathering and chopping process took a little under an hour.  I then assembled the triangles on a sheet of stickit adhesive.  This bit took about 30 minutes I guess.  I had my Silhouette cutting a few cut files at the same time and it passed pretty quickly and was strangely therapeutic.  Next step was to arrange them in a pattern on the centre of a 12x12.  To add extra interest I popped a few up on foam pads.  I varied the height of the foam pads too so some...

Scrapbooking | Rainbow

Scraptember are holding a cyber crop this weekend and one of the prompts was to make a rainbow laout.  I didn't need to be asked twice, rainbows are my favourite! I always think of Sarah Costain when using a black background.  She really is the queen of black backgrounds. The rainbow splatters are all made with Shimmerz products.  I love that these paint pots can sit unsed for more than a year and then rehydrate to their shimmery best in less than 10 minutes!  The hearts are from Colour Cast Designs.  (Like Shimmerz another fabulous company run by lovely people on the other side of the world... and makes me hate postal charges!)  I only order from Colour Cast once every 12-18 months... which come to think of it is probably a good thing!!  Because of this I tend to think of these acrylic pieces as precious and hoard them, so I'm pleased to get these big hearts used within a month of recieving them. The everyday moments is cut from a PL...

Scrapbooking | Rainbow Colours

Man, I love these inks.  I think it's the colour range and the juicy-but-crisp ink formulation.  They are so easy to get perfect impressions with - and I'm not a naturally able stamper! I've paired the inks with a Pink Fresh stamp and die set and colourmatched threads. I swiped the ink pads across the page and added fancy stitching in a tone on tone fashion. I coloured up some Elle's Studio alpha stickers to match and looked through a million sequins to find the right colours! The central flower in the stamped clusters was clling out for a little extra colour so I pulled out my Polychromos pencils.  I also added in a few embellishments from Colour Cast Designs. Thanks for stopping by!

Scrap Squad | L

I'm sharing another Scrap Squad lift from last weekend.  This is a take on a Sarah Jayne layout.  You might know SJ as Mrs Lottie Loves Paper... and on that note Lottie Loves paper are having a Cyber Crop this weekend. Pretty much everything on this layout is Pretty Little Studio/Zinia Redo.  The majority is from her first collection with a few heart stickers added from her second collection. You can't beat a bit of rainbow stitching!  Plus I have to justify having SO many threads - I need them to match all of the papers! Same goes for enamel dots!  I'm low on blue enamel dots so I'm seeking a mixed pack of blues... give a shout if you know of a pack as so far I've not found any. Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome to CUTE!

Rainbows and Matte Enamel Dots

Today's Pretty My Page project uses the leftovers from my first PMP project ...  I saved the rainbow negatives from my cutting mat and coloured them with some watercolour paints.  I arranged them in colour order and ran them through my sewing machine. I've added texture paste through the Rainbows stencil for subtle details on the background. I've added black shimmery splatters using Dylusions Shimmer Ink in Black Marble . And embellished with enamel dots - some regular and some with a matte finish.  I'll tell you now - you need these matte ones in your stash!  I've also used some foil leftovers from this project.  Never waste a thing if it's pretty! Here's the process video: Thanks for looking!

Birthday Fishes

In 'Mermaid Treasures', the newest collection from StickerKitten , there are two stamp sets.  One has larger mermaid stamps and the other a variety of smaller sea creatures .  Amongst the second set are a few shoals of fish... I love them!  And I think they look really effective stamped en masse like this.  Of course, they look good in a rainbow of Distress Oxide inks - everything looks great in rainbow colour! I popped the sentiment up on a layer of black card, and popped that up from the card.  I'm using 1mm foam pads so it is still slim enough to go through the post without any trouble. Traveller's Notebook

Here is my first DT project for Pretty My Page .  PMP specialise in cut files - both pre-cut for those without machines and digital.  They also stock a large range of mixed media items and are adding new items regularly. I've had an urge to make a Traveller's Notebook for a while but one with a twist.  I fancied odd pages, different shapes and textures - a bit like a junk journal but TN size.  Most of all I wanted some seethrough layers so I could have parts of pages peeking through.  Step up the Doodled Rainbow Mesh cut file.  The 12x12 pre-cut file was too big but I just trimmed it down to size.  The piece that was cut off will make it on to a layout fairly soon I'm sure!  A few of the other pages are pieces from the Layering Pack.  This pack includes dictionary pages, sheet music, doilies and glassine bags along with some real treasures like old collecting cards and postcards. Here's the process video so you c...

Hot Air Balloons for Muse

I loved this week's Muse card.  I've gone rainbow coloured for my take... The stamps are from StickerKitten and are part of the Unicorn Fairground set.  Seriously I could use this balloon for every project at the moment - definitely a favourite! I strayed from my usual yellow (squeezed lemonade to fossilised amber) and was amazed to see how much of a difference it made to the rest of the colours. Playing around with different blues doesn't seem to make much difference.  Linking up at Muse .
