Block 3

Here is my finished Block 3. I am doing the blocks at 12 " and decided to embroider those tiny cherry stems. I used 1/4" bias for the circle and 1/8 " bias for the leaf stems but decided a touch of embroidery would be fine. I had forgotten how difficult it is for me, to needleturn Kona solids like those used in the corner leaves and cherries. It seems a bit thicker and looser woven than some of the other fabrics so I had a bit of difficulty there but overall I am happy. I am just thrilled to be able to make this one out of my stash!

Block 2

Yesterday was happily spent prepping and stitching this block. After looking at the picture of the quilt again, I decided that I would like all of the swags to be the same fabric. On the FB group someone asked how much fabric would be required for the swags and Gay responded that 2 to 2 1/2 yards should be enough. I am making 12 in blocks so should not need quite so much. I have challenged myself to only use my stash to make this one and probably only have enough of a solid green to make the swags so decided to start introducing a bit of solid into the other blocks. This is not the solid that I will use for the swags but is just a shade lighter. I am looking at each block as though it is made by a different person and they have just pulled from their own collection of fabric. However I am trying to use period appropriate fabrics. I used a larger print in my first block but it is a repro from a slightly earlier era so I think it is still a good fit.

Block 1 finished

I am excited to be finished this block. Thanks to everyone who shared their variations, I was inspired to redraw my center and reduce the block size to 12 inches. Unfortunately I did not read the instructions carefully and did not realize I should have reversed the buds so I will be reversing the buds in my future blocks.
