Space Eater - Aftershock

Genre: Thrash/Speed
Country: Serbia
Year: 2010

1. Say Your Prayers
2. Abort
3. Divide & Conquer
4. Up On These Shores
5. FAA
6. Quantum Leap
7. No Retreat
8. Crush, Kill, Destroy
9. Anti-Psychiatry
10. Relationshit

2nd album by Space Eater, an excellent speed/thrash metal assault. This is a full fledged thrash metal album, classic in nature, but undoubtedly modern as well. They play a classic style of thrash, reminiscent of Megadeth and Testament, only with high-pitched vocals and a more direct Judas Priest influence.

Bewitched - Diabolical Desecration

Genre: Thrash/Black/Heavy
Country: Sweden
Year: 1996

1. Hard As Steel (Hot As Hell)
2. Hellcult
3. Born Of Flames
4. Deathspell
5. Bloodthirst
6. Burnin' Paradise
7. Holy Whore
8. Triumph Of Evil
9. Firehymn
10. Dressed In Blood
11. Blade Of The Ripper
12. The Witches Plague
13. Diabolical Desecration

Debut album by Bewitched. These guys certainly have no intention of reinventing the wheel, which is fine, because this album is crackling with energy and riffy goodness. They sound their best when playing at a faster pace. Imagine Bathory, Venom, Destruction, Iron Maiden in a raw, rotten black/thrash mood.

3. War Of The Worlds
4. No More Fear
5. Feel My Blade
6. Fight To Survive
7. We Can Change The World
8. F.T.W. (Sword cover)

Debut album by Stonewall, an italian trio that praises the american heavy metal of the '80s. Great riffs with hyper-melodic choruses and a divine voice by Tony, who is also behind the drum kit. Vince on bass and Peter on guitar are greatly making music, that brings in mind Vicious Rumors, Metal Church and especially Savage Grace.

5. Bloodexcess
6. God Forsaken
7. Bloodbath
8. Devil Inside
9. Firedead
10. The Bad
11. Dew Of Death

Debut album by Revolt. What we have here is a compilation of melodies, solos and thrash riffs from both schools, american and german, delivered with great energy, death metal aesthetic and circled by a dark atmosphere (blame vocals for that!). Nothing new here, but everything is well executed, with moments often reminding Slayer.

Exhumed - All Guts, No Glory

Genre: Death/Grindcore

5. Death Knell
6. Distorted And Twisted To Form
7. I Rot Within
8. Dis-assembly Line
9. Necrotized
10. Funereality
11. So Let It Be Rotten… So Let It Be Done

5th full length album by Exhumed, almost 6 years since their last one(that was more like a compilation of cover songs). They continue to mine the caustic, extreme technical death metal and lyrical psychosis they have been known and loved for going on almost 20 years. It is for sure one of the best death metal albums for 2011.

7. Bitter Loss
8. Morbid Devourment
9. Abnormally Deceased
10. The Truth Beyond

At a time when death metal was still looking for recognition, Swedish band Nihilist changed their name to Entombed, grabbed some old demos and proceeded to recording their debut album. They mixed the relentless thrashy aggression and riffage of floridian death metal with a healthy dose of groove and a bit of experimentalism. And then the swedish death metal sound was born!

2. Soon To Be Dead
3. Bleed For Me
4. And So Is Life
5. Dismembered
6. Skin Her Alive
7. Sickening Art
8. In Death's Sleep

Debut album by Dismember. From Kärki’s demonic growling, through the annihilating drumming of Estby and onto the forefront with Bomqvist, Sennebäck, Cabeza and Andersson, this album is the pinnacle of death metal. There are chainsaw-sounding guitars blasting out riff after riff, there's insane aggression and it's all in a perfect (dis)harmony.

Kreator - Endless Pain

Genre: Thrash

3. Storm Of The Beast
4. Tormentor
5. Son Of Evil
6. Flag Of Hate
7. Cry War
8. Bonebreaker
9. Living In Fear
10. Dying Victims

Debut album by Kreator. A pretty damn brutal release for 1985, a promising effort brought forth by a young and extremely determined band. It just never stops to kick your ass and shows an incredibly young and unexperienced but hungry and inspired trio of evil thrashers. The recording quality isn't exactly the best, as the guitars are pretty thin and the drums and vocals often overpower the rest.

Anthrax - Fistful Of Metal

3. I'm Eighteen (Alice Cooper cover)
4. Panic
5. Subjugator
6. Soldiers Of Metal
7. Death From Above
8. Anthrax
9. Across The River
10. Howling Furies

Debut album by Anthrax, with a lineup of Scott Ian, Dan Lilker, Neil Turbin, Charlie Benante and Dan Spitz. Lots of thunderous, fast and catchy riffs is to be found on this album. There are definitely some traditional heavy metal influences on here that would be replaced on later records by more, repetitive straight-up thrashing. Each song here is good in its own way and noone gets bored of this album easily.

The Misfits - Static Age

Genre: Horror Punk
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1978

1. Static Age
2. TV Casualty
3. Some Kinda Hate
4. Last Caress
5. Return Of The Fly
6. Hybrid Moments
7. We Are 138
8. Teenagers From Mars

10. Angelfuck
11. Hollywood Babylon
12. Attitude 13. Bullet
14. Theme For A Jackal
15. She 16. Spinal Remains
17. In The Doorway

Debut album by The Misfits, that was recorded in 1978 but was not released in its entirety until 1997. The recording quality is raw and strong and those qualities which helped them stand out from the pack, especially Danzig's amazing singing and Franche Coma's fierce guitar takes on the singer's melodies, are on fine display. There's a fair amount of mess, but it all sounds perfectly intentional, capturing a blend of punk mess, horror theatrics and wicked humor.

Hirax - El Rostro De La Muerte

Genre: Thrash/Speed/Crossover
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2009

2. Flesh And Blood

4. Chaos And Brutality
5. El Rostro De La Muerte (The Face Of Death)
6. Blind Faith
7. Horrified
8. Battle Of The North
9. The Laws Of Temptation
10. Death Militia
11. Broken Neck
12. Violent Assault
13. Cuando Cae La Oscuridad (When Darkness Falls)
14. Satan’s Fall

4th album by Hirax. They fuse metal and hardcore with De Pena’s manic, almost speed metal like vocals on the top of some blistering riffs that were always played at full speed. The riffs kill, the solos sear, the songwriting is memorable and De Pena’s vocals are completely off the rails. John Haddad’s recording is pretty damn strong as well and the Ed Repka artwork is most appropriate.

12. Negative Mental Attitude
13. Caught Out
14. Inertia

Debut album by Fukpig, a side-project of Mick Kenney from Anaal Nathrakh and 2 familiar cohorts from Frost and Mistress who focus here on marrying black metal with crust punk. This is crusty, grinding, blackened metal armageddon with screaming leads and crushing chugs. Occasionally rare synth-orchestral keyboard passages dominate the music. Blend Discharge, Napalm Death, Tragedy and any 2nd generation black metal band and you have this ... A Fuckin' Holocaust.

10. Pyre Of Souls (Seasons Of Pain)
11. Left Hand Rise Above

9th studio album by Danzig, with a lineup including Prong's Tommy Victor on guitars and Type O Negative's Johnny Kelly on drums. There are no real surprises here and Danzig stays close to home and in familiar territory with haunting songs. The quality of the song compositions on Deth Red Sabaoth is generally very good, but not quite up to par with the material on Danzig’s first two albums.

14. Candy Now 15. Do The HeWhoCannotBeNamed
16. Your Girl's Mom 17. Zip Zero 18. The Band That Wouldn't Die

10th album by The Dwarves. This album is a return to the hardcore punk of earlier albums like Blood Guts & Pussy, but with far higher production values, a pop-punk sensibility and more polished songwriting. The Dwarves still have no lack of skills to write catchy, pornographic, drug induced lyrics. The 18 songs fly by in a haze of aggression, humour and ferocious fucked-upness.

21. Diamonds And Rust (extended version)

Debut album by Stormtroopers Of Death, a crossover project featuring Scott Ian and Charlie Benante of Anthrax, Dan Lilker of Nuclear Assault and punk vocalist/lyricist Billy Milano. They blended the distortion and riffage of metal with the blazing speed, frenetic energy and gotohell attitude of hardcore punk. The lyrics on the album aren't meant to be taken seriously and for the most part they are pretty funny.

3. Show Your Hate
4. King Thy Name Is Slayer
5. Out Of The Sky
6. Into The Universe
7. The Eternal War
8. Fear Of Tomorrow
9. Deeds Of Darkness

Debut album by Artillery. It sounds a little rough when compared to the band's later releases, but it is already a solid representation of their customary style. One of the most distinguishable features in the typical Artillery sound was the dramatic, relatively high-pitched vocals of Flemming Ronsdorf who was not quite your stereotypical shouter.

4. Youthful Fire
5. Dead For You
6. Evil’s Decay
7. My Living Hell
8. Hellbiker’s Tale
9. Asmodeus’ Rage

2nd album by Strikelight. Old school heavy metal with major NWOBHM influences and a voice that seems to be stuck in the '80s. Killer guitar riffs, nice galloping drums accompanied with an old school bass attitude. With no modern influences at all and songs that sometimes reach the level of epicness, the band pays tribute to pure heavy metal.

5. The Ocean Beneath Me
6. This Blood Runs Cold

9. The Heart Of The Beast
10. Creation Of Maya

2nd album by Igzordium, an one-man band that mixes all the influences from thrash to death to black metal. 10 tracks of 38 minutes, that flow perfectly smooth without making you bored at all. The guy behind Igzordium uses harsh black vocals, clean ones and even a guest female singer. The whole effort is very interesting, with nice production and catchy songwritting.

4. Forbidden Evil
5. March Into Fire
6. Feel No Pain
7. As Good As Dead
8. Follow Me

Debut album by Forbidden. It is a convincing debut release, featuring some inspired guitar work and a lot of memorable songs. Russ Anderson's vocals are very powerful and distinctive and the music is generally more original and stronger than what many other bands of the era had to offer. There's some roughness in the sound but the overall production is sufficiently heavy and clear.

5. Doomsday For The Deceiver
6. Metalshock
7. She Took An Axe
8. U.L.S.W.
9. Der Führer
10. Flotzilla

The classic debut of Flotsam And Jetsam is a mixture of immense speed and some weird humor in lyrics. Eric A.K. had an extremely high-pitched voice that is very distinctive, but may not be, for some fans, the most appropriate for this kind of music. It is still an interesting piece of old thrash metal and probably one of the more remarkable releases this band ever made.

Debut album Soothsayer, that were one of the most energetic, fun and underrated crossover/thrash bands of the 80's. There is absolutely nothing innovative here ( a mix of Metallica, D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies), but instead of it there are 38 minutes of very enjoyable punkish thrash metal, lots of headbanging riffs, amazing drumming, nice audible bass lines, quite good vocals and funny lyrics.

Debut album by the swiss trio Surrealist. From a musical point of view “Unexpected being” pays homage to the great and original metal bands of the '80s and early '90s. Imagine a perfect mix of Coroner, Death and Atheist. The production and the vocals are on the thrash level, but the songwritting and the musicianship are moving in the death metal levels.

The 2nd album by Bornholm, can easily ranked in the top of the black metal albums ever! The band managed to combine perfectly: aggression and being epic and haunting at the same time. 6th full length album by Jungle Rot. The band seems to be stepping away from their original influences like Obituary going more for a more Suffocation feel. Pummeling drums and hacksaw guitars give way to an explosive mix of death and groovy thrash. Being most in the paths of old school death metal, they also touch thrash and hardcore territories, taking these elements, that lead this album to the top 10 of the death metal albums for 2011.

2nd album by Ravencult. Disharmonic/thrashy riffing comes and goes and the listener experiences fascinating music technicality along with the rotten feeling that the album produces, while the more mid-tempo parts that create darker atmospheres are equally welcome. Homage to Darkthrone, Bathory, Aura Noir.

Debut album , after a demo and an 'Ep, by Fog Of War. Despite the awful and ridiculous cover artwork, this album is a killer thrash album. Imagine a mix of Nuclear Assault, Slayer and early Metallica. The album has a nice balance of technicality and brutality. Lyrically, the band sings about what they always sing about, bombs, beer and metal.

1st 'Ep by Celtic Frost, that came up from the Hellhammer's ashes. This 'Ep features some of the most overcovered tunes in metal history. The guitarwork is top-notch and the evil, noisy tone really adds up to the already great riffs. Creepy occult lyrics left and right only add to the mysterious and sinister aura surrounding this album.

2nd album by Havok. This time, the band has added some melodic touches here and there to spice things up a bit, but still the music sound like it was written back in the mid 80's. The musicianship is astonishing, either it's the rhythm section, the drum works, the guitar riffs or the vocals. Influences from various bands can be found here, but the band has managed to include them into their own style. One of the best thrash albums for 2011.

Debut album by Infernal Majesty. They created a nearly perfect debut album that they have never even come close to rivaling. Hallman and Terror's guitar sound and riffing is perfect, Nemes' drums are solid and interesting while his vocals fit the music great. The riffs somehow manage to be grim and dark and hold a blackish atmosphere while also being fast and brutal and totally death/thrash.

Debut album by Holy Terror. This alum is top-notch speed/thrash metal performed with conviction. The band was founded by Kurt Kilifelt after his departure from Agent Steel and also had an ex Thurst (Floyd Flanary) and ex Dark Angel (Jack Schwartz) member in their fold. Keith Deen's apocalyptic vocals gave the band a grisly edge, but what really explodes off this recording are the guitars.

Omega - Second Coming, Second Crucufixion

2. Black Metal Rust
3. Evil Rock N' Roll

6. Big Beer For Big Nuts
7. Hail To The Cult

Debut album by Omega. They play old-school black/thrash in the vein of Venom, Hellhammer and later Darkthrone, with a dirty rock 'n' roll feeling. The primitive underproduction here is entirely genuine and despite the necro aesthetics of the artwork and the satanic title, the lyrics are generally beer-themed.You can buy this album in vinyl edition from here.

Steel Aggressor - From Ruins To Dust

Genre: Speed/Thrash/Power
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2011

1. War On The Tundra
2. Return To Mithril Hall
3. Sword And Sorcery
4. From Ruins To Dust
5. Master Of Past And Present
6. Valeman’s Journey
7. Living In The Shadows

Debut album by Steel Aggressor. Heavy drumming combined with fat bass riffs form the basis of the band’s sound. Fast guitar riffs and vocals that fit the music perfectly come on top of that. The fantasy-theme in the lyrics makes the sound complete. So this is recommended for fans of early Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Paradox, etc.

Arkona - Stenka Na Stenku 'Ep

Genre: Folk/Pagan
Country: Russia
Year: 2011

1. Stenka Na Stenku
2. Valenki
3. Goi, Rode Goi! (acoustic version)
4. Skal
5. Duren' (Svarga cover)
6. Noviy Mir (Odda mailbmi) (Shaman cover)

The nearly 25-minute long 'Ep includes a new track from the upcoming album, as well as 5 exclusive non-album tracks. Its heavy on the accordion and some type of whistle, with a strong russian folk rhythm that’s practically polka. In track 'Skal' , Freki from Varg is lending his voice as a guest appearance. Overall the EP is cheesy and enjoyable.
