Dramatic Clouds over the Corn Fields

I stared at those clouds the whole drive to Fairfield, anticipating a perfect painting.  Once I found high ground and started painting, the raindrops started.  I worked faster until I had to duck for cover.  After seeking shelter I was able to return to finish this up.  Those clouds had moved to the south, but the other colors remained.  I absolutely love painting farmland after so many town paintings of late.  Painting number 3911 in 3911 days.

Snowmelt in the Corn Field

purchase here

Most of the snow has melted now in northwest Ohio, so I'm painting what little bit I can find on a local farm.  We've had so much on our plates the last couple of days, it has been hard to get in that art therapy time.  Hoping I can get most of those old home videos converted before I leave.  So wonderful to sit in on those family gatherings again, I love hearing voices I haven't heard for a long, long time.  Painting number 2242 in 2242 days.

Tractor For Sale

donated to Fairfield Plein Air

I drove past this tractor every time I returned to my parents house, for nearly two months.  On our way to a doctor appointment, I was finally able to take a few good photos to work from, knowing I would not have enough time to work on site.  Using my acrylics for the second time this week, I sketch with paint, and start layering in the color.  I let it rest two days, making a few adjustments each day.  I think it is ready now, but I'll take a look tomorrow before shipping it to Fairfield.  Painting number 2146 in 2146 days.

Autumn Farm

I run past a lot of corn fields in northern Ohio, and the texture and colors are rich in the drizzle of this day.  Autumn seems to have fled now, leaving plenty of earthy browns in her wake.  I think I'll embrace these rich colors as winter approaches.  Painting number 2122 in 2122 days.

Windland Family Farm

What a beautiful farm to paint on this gorgeous morning!  The light was absolutely magical as I started laying paint.  Painting on a farm is a special treat, it takes me back to my childhood on the farms of Grandma Frank and Uncle Richard.  The rustle of the drying cornfield in the wind is like music in the air, a peaceful, calming place to spend the morning at my easel.  Plein air art tip of the day - Raid Yard Guard really does rid the painting area of mosquitoes!  I didn't see one bug when the whole county is full of them after that 10 inch rain!  Painting number 2084 in 2084 days.

Running through the Cornfield

Today, I met with the Art Mob at Scheels in Overland Park, for plein air of a different kind!   I was surprised to find SO much to paint!   The animals were wonderfully posed for great compositions - and they stood still for me to paint them!  How often does that happen in the field?  This was my first drawing of the day, and I chose it due to the very lifelike setting.  I relished the opportunity to catch these deer running, and the cornfield was a bonus!  I am really enjoying my new watercolor perfection sets - I  bounced between three of them for today's paintings!  I also tried a new koi water brushpen today, medium tip.  I used it exclusively, and liked the flow.  It may take a little more pressure to get the water out than the 3 pack I got at Hobby Lobby, but it certainly worked well.   Painting number 1478 in 1478 days.
