Running Kelce in Copper

Surprise!  Kelce in copper is on the "Chiefs Easel" today! It has been a while since I've picked up the metal supplies - and it is super fun!  I especially like that he is such a great guy - as are all of our hometown boys.  This is seriously a team all young kids can look up to, and I'm sending out positive vibes and kingdom love with each piece of art I create!  I hope we see plenty of this on Sunday!!  GO CHIEFS!  Artwork number 5092 on 5092 days.

Mahommes and Kelce High 5

I'm working with ink, watercolor and hot wax again on a couple of our home town boys!  I have long been wanting to paint some of our Chiefs in watercolor batik, and this is the perfect week to do it!  The rice paper I am working on is so very fragile that I'm having a bit of trouble with it.  I'm using Qor red here - and it is absolutely perfect for this!  It didn't fade through the hot wax nor the ironing is said wax off, which is amazing!  The other paints are Daniel Smith since I'm working on the studio for this one.  His paints have been my favorite since I first picked up watercolor paint.  I'm lucky to have chosen his first, I probably saved myself lots of time and disappointment with inferior paints.  I've got a theme going, and I hope to keep it up to game time!  Painting number 5091 in 5091 days.

KC Arrowhead Inked

It's that time again!  As the Super Bowl approaches, I just have to wash some ink in support of our hometown boys!  The excitement around the city is palpable and i simply must get a few Chiefs paintings done before the big day!  I first sketched this with India ink, then went over those lines with a chisel tip Pitt pen.  Next, I dropped in a favorite new fountain pen ink - Grotto - by Diamine, then washed in a juicy layer barely touching the edge of that ink.  The ink moves freely into the very wet masses with a mind of it's own.  How fun it is to watch it unfold!  Painting number 5090 in 5090 days.

Mahommes in Copper

It's so fun getting caught up in the excitement of another Super Bowl run for our Kansas City Chiefs! In copper, I sketch the form, working back and front to push the metal where I want it.  It stretches with the stress, and I sculpt it with assorted tools.  I love switching up mediums daily - it keeps everything I do fresh.  Artwork number 4048 in 4048 days.

Kelce in Copper

How could I resist working my favorite tight end in copper?  The AFC game was so exciting, and Kelce was on fire out there!  So, I'm celebrating the Chiefs and putting good vibes into the atmosphere as we approach the Super Bowl!  I just love our home town boys, and as a Swiftie family - I especially support the romance with Taylor.  Who doesn't love LOVE?  Artwork number 4040 in 4040 days.

Kelce in Copper

It wa so exciting to work "Kelce" into copper  during the Super Bowl!! Working metal is a great stress reliever, and boy was that a stressful game!  The sketching the image into the metal with slight pressure starts the process, then I work some masses from the back and others from the front, working until the metal stretches out a bit in 3D fashion.  Each time I work a piece, I learn my tools a little more, and find better methods to achieve the result I desire.  A little rubbing of the metal and antiquing the edges, and I'm done before I know it. I finished 4 different pieces during that game!  Painting number 3700 in 3700 days.

Mahomes Copper

It's super fun to work in copper again - this time on one of my favorite Chief's!  It's been a few years since I've worked the metal - and this piece of copper was cut and ready in a bag.  After I was completely finished,  I realized that THIS batch of copper was not my favorite!  It's thicker and harder to work, requiring more pressure from both sides to get my image in.  I think I'll be cutting some of my other pieces to have at the ready - now that I'm getting reacquainted with my supplies - lol! I know I was going to stop painting nutcrackers until the next Christmas season.....but this is a Chiefs Nutcracker - and the KC Chiefs are playing a big game today!  Sending good luck to our boys is red, this little nutcracker and his hunter companion will watch over the day’s games!   My school friend, Julie has sent me the newest nutcracker pics in her collection - and I may be unable to resist painting them all this month!  I will try to show some restraint....but no promises!  Painting number 1097 in 1097 days  :)

Mouse King and the Boys

Mouse King and the Boys
Acrylic on masonite, 5x5
purchase here
This Mouse King is special - he has wonderful, silky gray fur around his face and ears!  His fancy gilded cape and bejeweled crown are spectacular!  On either side, are the boys - one a baseball player and the other a football player.  A couple of all American nutcrackers here, complete with baseball, bat, football and face mask!  As Christmas nears, the house is slowly getting back to order.  Living room is painted,  the historic woodwork is up on three of the four windows, and furniture is returning to their places. Anyone who knows me, knows how hard it is for me to have things out of order.  It is hard to focus on anything, as every little thing out of place "screams" at me as I see it.  So, I am looking towards the light at the end of the tunnel.....and I see peace on the horizon!  Painting number 1081 in 1081 days :)
