Autumn Lane

The oaks are really showing their color, now.  I'm never ready for them to lose their leaves, though i know it's coming.  This season is so fleeting, and my time so heavily scheduled that I ever feel as though I'm missing wonderful opportunities. This small 6x6 size is a perfect solution for crazy busy days and a regular go to this time of year.  I'm looking forward to quiet days with plenty of painting time this winter. Hope springs eternal, after all.  Painting number 5198 in 5198 days.

Autumn Oaks Path

The oaks have really put on a show this year - despite the drought!  They were more orange-red than I can remember in the past, and the hues have only deepened.  I'm hoping to get a few more landscapes in before those leaves drop.  The 70s of yesterday have been replaced with 40s, so our long warm autumn has come to a close. It is the middle of November, after all! Painting number 4390 in 4390 days.

Oaks of Autumn

Oaks of Autumn
Oil over acrylic on panel, 8x6
Today, I am having fun with the texture of autumn foliage.  I have a favorite small brush that I have scrubbed down almost to nothing.  With what is basically a liner stick with no hairs left, I have scooped up paint and applied it with a slanted stroke - not even brushing the panel with the tip in most cases.  It allows me more freedom than a palette knife, due to the round shape.  I had first painted this in acrylic, and painted over almost the entire surface with oils.  The dried up creek is past the back of our property - and one of my favorite places to explore as a child!  Painting number 284 in as many days :)
