Snowball Bush Blooms

I love how a stormy day saturates the colors in the landscape!  Rich and vibrant, I can't resist the colors.  I block in my masses with a brush, then come back in with my palette knife to negatively paint those blooms before adding highlights.  It is always a push and pull with the paints as I near the finish.  I often squint down to see what else I need before closing my palette.  Sometimes, I even turn my painting upside down for the final check!  This gorgeous bush is another Mother's Day gift from years ago, one that is normally in full bloom for Mother's Day!  Painting number 2676 in 2676 days.

Snowball Blooms

This snowball bush always blooms around Mother's Day, and the big white blooms are a showstopper.  Mike's mom was the first person I knew with such a bush, and we planted ours soon after we moved in many years ago.  I spent 8 hours in the flowers today, so it was only natural to bring a few blooms in to paint after dark!  I have always loved big round blooms of all kinds and these were a joy to paint!  Best way to end the day!  Painting number 2321 in 2321 days.

Happy Mother's Day!!  The kids got me a new pink azalea and a beautiful red japanese maple - and planted them, too!  This was a day full of family, good food and fun at Mike's parent's house. After arriving home, I spent some more time working in the flower beds. And then it rained again, which sent me indoors.  This snowball bush was planted many years ago - and is much taller than I am!  The blooms are very full - and look so much like hydrangeas, they are fabulous to paint!  Working here with brush and knife, I have blocked in the masses and added the detail.  A last touch of petal work - and I'm calling it done.
