My Favorite Things ~ Summer School

Hello Crafty Friends,

My daughter and I decided to go back to school last night...that is at My Favorite Things. You are never too old to learn and that is exactly what I was determined to do...learn some new techniques and tips. We read all five of the posts, watched every video, and created a card for each lesson.  Phew! I think my brain is full of LOTS of new information that will be useful for many future projects.

Here are all the completed assignments...
The idea of white space doesn’t refer to a primarily white card
but rather, the idea of leaving a significant portion of your design open, free from embellishment, allowing your focal point to truly shine.

Primary colors are among the first we learn as kids and for that reason, sometimes have a bad rap as being a childish choice for projects. Really though, primary colors are essential. Not only do they provided the basis for our other colors, they also impart such a playful cheeriness (kid card or not) that they shouldn’t be overlooked.

Repetition reinforces a theme within your projects. Switching things up — either by introducing another color or including an unexpected element into a recognizable pattern, keeps the overall look interesting.

Complementary colors refer to colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel — yellow-purple, red-green, and orange-blue being the traditional complementary pairings.

Symmetry refers to positioning your elements mirrored across an imaginary line that divides your project into even segments. It’s a great method for achieving balance in your design and is a reliable means of laying out your card elements when you don’t have a lot of planning time to spare.

Feeling accomplished!

Now that all those assignments are complete, time to move on to another task!

A Chocolate Treat for a Chocoholic

Hello Everyone,

Happy Christmas Eve! Hard to believe there is only one day until Christmas Day. The time sure did fly by this year just as the day did. I made this card earlier, but started watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel and lost track of time. Those movies sure do keep you entranced. I think it's because they always have happy endings.

I used the following photo from Cupcake Inspirations to help choose the colors and  my die-cut and I used the  Stella Says Sketch for the layout.

The Valentine cupcake is from Miss Kate Cuttables. The background mat was embossed with a chevron folder and then flattened. I wanted a clean and simple look, but not too much texture. When there are too many bumps the paper doesn't seem to lay nicely.

The stamped sentiment is from Jaded Blossom ~ Chocoholic set. What a delicious set of fun sayings for anyone who LOVES chocolate (that is ME). I used Ranger Archival Ink ~ Potting Soil.
Other Challenges:

Lots to still do to be ready for Christmas celebrations that begin tonight.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas,
Georgiana

Thinking of You

Happy Monday! It's President's Day, which means a day off to do all those things that weren't finished over the weekend. I already have a list just thinking about it! Hoping to find time to make another project later today (might go to the movies with hubby). Right now I would like to share a card I made late last night for a few challenges.

Since it was Valentines Day I was in the pink and red mood. The Recollections and Paper Studio papers complimented each other nicely.

I used the following sketch from Stick It Down.

This is my favorite die from My Favorite Things...Scribble Roses. I remember buying these with my daughter during my first trip to their store in Eustis. I am so glad I decided to get them! I added a touch of pink glitter glue to the overlay.

The butterfly was cut with an ArtC die and the MFT banner from Blueprints 13 was stamped with a sentiment by Whimsical Designs.

So Scrumptious...Ice Cream Summer Treat

Hello Crafty Friends,

Yay, It's Friday! Actually, it is no different than any other day since I am off for the summer and all the days seem to blend together, but...I do know when it is time for a delicious summer treat! Ice Cream is good any day of the week!

Today's triple scoop high cone with interesting flavors (maybe blueberry, banana, and cotton candy...what flavors do you think they could be?) is sure to cool you off and fill that sweet tooth craving.

I used the following sketch from Clear It Out Challenge.

I used the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge to cut the tag.

Berry Blue Trendy Twine along with some grunge rumple ribbon by Lovebug Creations.

Glitterized ice cream (by Miss Kate Cuttables) on a crunchy sugar cone and a tiny tags stamp by My Craft Spot.

Happy 4th of July!

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today is Independence Day in the United States. This happens to be one of my favorite units to teach in Social Studies...in 5th grade I do a BIG unit on the Revolutionary War and tie it all together, so the students will remember the important event in history. I have to say...I sure do enjoy summer break, but this week...I have missed being in the class teaching. Yes...I know...I actually said it! I actually have been slightly bored. Our BIG vacation that we have been planning for two years starts next week, so that should relieve the boredom feeling. I will share more about the trip later!

I made a quick card today to help celebrate the 4th. Patriotic colors and stars.

I used the following sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches. I really like this sketch, so I probably will be using it again.

I used 4 stars for the holiday, but chose a stamp (Whimsical Designs) that could be for birthday or other special occasion. The stars (and circle) were cut from the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday America!

What a Deer!

Hello Crafty Friends,

After watching the Law and Order: SUV marathon ALL yesterday  (those law shows sure are addicting) and not accomplishing much of anything, I decided I would create a card so I could join a few challenges.

My project for today...
An A2 card for any occasion focusing on a darling deer.

I used the following sketch from Pals Paper Arts.

The baby deer is from Miss Kate Cuttables. It was a freebie, but it is now in the 50 cent section. Lots of layers, but I didn't mind since I used my favorite color...brown. I think the teal bow "pops".

I used a stamp from Scrappy Moms...2 Thumbs Up! set
Other Materials:
DCWV paper ~ Linen Closet stack
browns, teal, and cream card stock
Brown ink (edges)
Potting Soil ink (sentiment) by Ranger
Latte Skittle by Carri

Bunny Belly Box

Hello Crafty Friends,

Hope you have enjoyed your weekend. Me...did some school work yesterday, made some FCAT treat bags, then went to see Captain America today, and as soon as I am done posting I am going to make a  card. Back to school tomorrow for only 8 more weeks. Hard to believe this school year is almost done.

These Belly Boxes by My Scrap Chick are the cutest treat containers and I sure wish they were around when I was a kid. I have made this darling bunny, but have 7 more types that I bought when they were 75% off.
The over-sized carrot feet are way too cute. I inked all the edges (feet, face, and ears).
I used scrap pieces of dark pink and white card stock to make filler for the belly. I crimped all the pieces and then crumbled it a little more to make it appear fuller.
A few Nestle Crunch chocolate eggs were added for a yummy treat.

Have a great week,
