Blackbird Designs - "October Harvest" stockings

October

and the trees are stripped bare
Of all they wear
What do I care
October
And kingdoms rise
And kingdoms fall
But you go on
...and on...

September stockings and Parolin

"Our hearts were ringing, in the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night, remember how the stars stole the night away
Bade ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a
cloudy day"

BBD Autumn Stocking exchange - my work for Janice

Buongiorno amiche!

Good day my friends!
I have been in an exchange organized in my Yahoo! Blackbird Designs group. We had to stitch one of the Autumn themed stockings.
My exchange buddy Janice has already received what I stitched for her (that was fast, I sent the parcel out on the Sept. 18th!) and so here is the picture of what I sent her:

...it's "Mr. Turkey" stocking from November booklet, I stitched it on a light orange F.lli Graziano linen. I also added some hand dyed (by me) floss. Janice appreciated it, and I am happy for that!

Eccovi qualche esempio:

In those days I made some experiments in the kitchen, and I have to say that I am quite satisfied of the results. Here's some pictures of what I have done:

This is octopus with potatoes. Potatoes were grown in my boyfriend Andrea's garden, and they were so good! :)

Those are a classic thing of my town, Reggio Emilia, "tortelli verdi" ( a kind of green ravioli). I change a bit the recipe, I didn't put the spinach in it.

And this is the most difficult experiment, but also with good results. When I have been in Dijon last spring, after eating Boeuf A la Bourguignonne, I promised to myself to try to make it at home. And now that the air is chill, I have done it! There are two differences between the french recipe and mine, I used Chianti to cook the meat in (instead of Bourgogne wine, which I hav, but to drink!) and I used mushrooms found by my boyfriend instead of champignons.

Buon appetito! :)

A presto, see you soon!

Happy Fall you all! E' finalmente Autunno! :

Hello! I'm not disappared...I don't like summer at all, and now that Autumn is officially started, I'm getting back here, writing on my blog!

Inizio col mostrarvi qualche lavoretto...

I'm gonna show you something finished...
...this is something I actually finished last year, but i never posted it, and this year it was a pleasure to hang it again!

I stitched this back in 2004...it is stitched on a BIG Aida...a lot of time is passed! But I love this chart, anyway.

Another Autumn classic..mushrooms! Found by my boyfriend in the wood. They're special!

A French breakfast... I bought both cup and spoon in Bretagne, where I spent a beautiful week this summer! The tablecloth was a gift from Miriam for Miss Marple exchange "Tea with Crime". Miriam doesn't have a blog, but I want to thank her for her gift, I really appreciated it!

This is what I stitched for Gemma for Miss Marple's exchange. She liked it, and I am very happy for that!

This is another little shabby project, still working on it, it's a work in progress!

This is what I stitched for Milly, for another exchange, organized on our Yahoo! group for Prairie Schooler stitchers. Milly is also a dear friend of mine, so it was such a pleasure stitching for her!

Grazie ancora cara Milly!

I received from Milly this wonderful box, with as extra some threads ando something more! Thank you so much again, dear Milly!

And, to finish this looooong post, here you are some other finishes, more letters for Ornella 's SAL of Parolin's Alfabetario, and also my very own personal Blackbird Desings stockings SAL! You can see a picture with lots of stockings, it's the picture of the first half of the stockings, from Jauary to June! It's so cute seeing them together!:)

It's all for now, but I'll be back soon, this time!!

Scary Stockings

A quick (and late) post for my Thursday Blackbird Designs. I wanted to put Halloween (Samhain) stuff in the picture of my scary stockings so I opened my Halloween (Samhain) box before it's its time...actually those stockings aren't scary at all..but they are nice!

And this is Thursday's post! Thursday means Blackbird Designs, so here's what I've done. I wanted to do something to start and finish in the same evening, so I made the ornament for the Bride's Tree Sal, for which the theme of May is "Birds". This chart is "Love Letters" from the "Joyeux Noel" book. I stitched it on 40ct fabric. I love this cute ornie!

Today is the last day of the month...and I finished my two monthly works...the first one is the one with Blackbird Designs stockings...

Non è deliziosa quella con l'ombrello??
Isn't the umbrella one lovely?

The second date was with Bride's Tree SAL... http://bridestreesal.blogspot.com/ the theme ofthe month was rabbit, so I stitched "Snow Bunnies" by Little House Needleworks, taken from an od JCS Ornaments issue, stitched 1 over 1, 40 ct fabric! (toally crazy!)

Introducing my great-grandmother

Hello my dear stitching friends!

I thought I have only one month to go before Mother's day, and if I have to accomplish my two projects for my grandmother and my great-grandmother, I have to run. That's why I started stitching "Hannah Lovina Joslin - 1856" sampler from the "Honeysuckle Manor" Blackbird Designs, which is beautiful. So I kitted all up, changing some colours so that I can use some hand dyed threads I have in my stash...

My great-grandmother died in 1969, so I never met her. But I heard my mom and grandmother talk about her since I was a little girl.

This is a way to "get in touch" with her, and to keep her alive through the years.
I already put her name and birthdate in the sampler chart, and it was perfect there. I can't wait to see it finished.

Until next time, and enjoy your weekend!

Easter is gone...now it's time to think Christmas!

This year I can't stop being in Christmas mood. Don't know why. Usually, I arrive at Christmas and I can't stand to see Christmas stitching anymore until later in the year. But not this time. Maybe it's because, with someone above's help, if DB and I will find OUR home, it will be our first Christmas together in OUR home, so I need special decorations to celebrate. I really think this is the reason!

Anyway, here's my favourite Christmas stitching up to now: it's Blackbird Designs "Merry Christmas" taken from the wonderful book "Joyeux Noel".

I have stitched it with recommended hand dyed threads on a 40ct fabric hand dyed by me with tea. I just love it, in its simplicity. Still have to decide how to finish it,but I think it will be a banner for a door. Any other ideas girls?

And this is another ornament, the one for March at the Bride's Tree SAL.

The subject of the month was: flower or flowers basket, so I took a particular from "Poinsettia House" of Little House Needleworks, and stitched it. I used a scrap of fabric used for the Blackbird Designs above. Here nothing is wasted!

During the month of March I did not miss my date with Blackbird Designs stockings.

Needless to say that I love stitching those stockings more and more while I go on with this project. I love seeing the pile of stockings growing, waiting for the moment I will understand HOW to display them, LOL!

March of course means St. Patricks's day. Again, needless to say hw I love this holiday, my Irish roots (which I know I have, I am sure of it!) use to bring me to the pub with DB and friends, Guinness flowing and flowing, Irish music all around and this is happiness!

My creaivty also flows, this year I made those Shamrocks, I found a pattern ont tbe internet and then it's just a matter of cut, fill and sew ! Quick, easy and I love the result! Those little shamrocks followed me to the pub and our table was the most creative one in the pub!

Blackbird Designs "Wild Clover" stocking also followed me. Dont' you think it's just perfect near a pint of Guinness? :))

ok..it's all for now. I am working on my April Sal(s) at the moment, I have to run with my Hawk Run Hollows, in March I almost forgot them....but I will be forgiven!
And, I have a project for Mother's day. I would like to celebrate not only my mother, but also my grandmother and my great-grandmother, with two Blackbird Designs Samplers fromt he gorgeous "Honeysuckle Manor" booklet.
One month to go...will I do i? Mmmmh I hope so.
We'll see!

I wish you a joyful month of April
In stitches,

Sara :)

Rain rain go away...

...rainy morning here. Hot cup of tea needed urgently!

I have finished BBD "Three stockings for February" last week, but I forgot to post them here. Here they are!

I really love stitching & finishing those stockings. Between February ones, I loved especially the birdie one. For the alphabet one I have used a hand dyed thread by me

I am about to start stitching some BBD Halloween stockings too. There are 13 stockings in the booklet, so I think it is better to start stitching some every now and then just to be ready for Oct.31st :)

In the meantime I have started with hand dyeing some threads with Halloween colours and I will use them for my stockings. Just have to think about the fabric!

Have a nice day you all,
in stitches

Happy New Year! I'm back...

Last time I wrote here I was in the USA, it means it was August, and that means that it's TOO much time!!

Her's some finishes from late 2009 and early 2010.

This is from last year. I stitched those souvenirs for my grandparents who celebrated 60 years of marriage. A big goal, isn't it? :) The souvenirs were for all my relatives.

I started stitching both "Christmas At Hawk Run Hollow" and "The Village Of Hawk Run Hollow", I am stitcing one block each, those are the first two:

Those are Blackbird Designs January Stocking. My birthday is on January 28th so Birthday stocking is perfect. I have stitched only 3 candles because I'll turn 30 this year...

This is my calendar: this is January from Little House Needleworks, I am on February now and I will finish it before January ends :)

This is something I stitched both for me and my friends as a Christmas present: the picture of us in Berlin with this Berlin stitching. Chart is from Kirsten Schmidt, a very nice girl!! The black/yellow/red thread, inspired from Germany flag, was hand dyed by me :)

and as I loved Berlin result, I decided to frame those two 2009 finishes of NY and Philadelphia with the picture of DBF and me :) I am planning to do the same with ROute 66 shield, St.Louis Gateway Arch, Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree Park, places visited this summer :)

I'll try to be more regular in posting here, but you can blame Facebook for my absence :)

See you soon here, stay tuned!
