Led Zeppelin foi uma banda britânica célebre pela sua inovação e influência no heavy blues-rock, além de ter sido uma das mais populares na década de 70, fazendo parte do grupo conhecido como a tríade Era formada por: Jimmy Page, John Bonham, John Paul Jones e Robert Plant. A morte de John Bonham, em 1980, foi a causa do fim da banda.

Originalmente a banda foi formada pelo guitarrista Jimmy Page com o nome de "The New Yardbirds" de modo a conseguirem cumprir um contrato feito para a realização de concertos na Escandinávia antes da dissolução dos originais Yardbirds. O vocalista Robert Plant conhecido pelo seu trabalho no grupo "The Band of Joy", foi recrutado, trazendo com ele o baterista John Bonham. O baixista John Paul Jones foi informado pela esposa que Page estava formando uma banda; Jones e Page já se conheciam anteriormente, quando trabalhavam como músicos de estúdio, e Page convidou-o para fazer parte da banda.

Após alguns concertos como "The New Yardbirds", a banda mudou o nome para Led Zeppelin, depois que Keith Moon, baterista do The Who, ter dito que com aquela formação eles despencariam como um "Zeppelin de chumbo". A palavra "lead" é propositadamente mal escrita para evitar confusões com "lead Zeppelin" (como em lead singer, que significa vocalista) ao invés de um Zeppelin construído com o metal chumbo.
