More Pink/Brown Pineapple Blocks...

I never tire of this combo! These were sent to me from a friend. I'll get them sewn up as soon as I can! :-)

In other quilty news. Neicy is doing a mini challenge on the HGTV message board. Every month she picks a pattern for us to work on. It isn't a swap, we keep our own creations. I have tried to keep up and do it every month because it's fun, and you end up with a neat little mini. ;-) It's also a great time to practice those skills that get rusty, or try different color combo's than you normally would. Work outside your comfort zone... This month's challenge was the Galaxy Star block. As you can see, I'm not quite finished but I'm close. I used the sailor's ditty about the red sky to choose my colors. I'm planning a very small bright orange border and then a larger border of the dark blue to contain everything. That's all the news from my little corner of the universe. ;-)

I sewed today!

I sewed! :-) Kind of a dreary day outside, but inside the whirr of the sewing machine made up for it. This is half of a South Dakota block from Carol Doak's 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars book. Hopefully, I will get to half two tomorrow!

I like the precision of paper-piecing, but not so much the tediousness of it. It seems like it takes a long time to see results... maybe I'm too impatient. ;-)

This block is for a special project. I only need one. After I've got a few more finished, I'll explain more.

Days without sewing...

...are like days without chocolate! :-)
Haven't had either today. LOL
Tomorrow... I sew!

Whoohoo! I sewed!

It's always a great day when you can sew! :-)

I am hosting a swap of Bonnie Hunter's Pineapple Blossom Blocks (see previous posts) on the quilting forum at HGTV message boards. Today I worked on some of my sets. After laying them out with practice blocks, I nearly have a quilt top! I'm so excited to be swapping these beauties. I just love the pink & chocolate combination. :-)
On the home front... my amaryllis is blooming. :-) I've had it for years and it blooms about every other year. So pretty!

Busy Days, Little Sewing

Have you ever said you were too busy to sew? Isn't that crazy?! Too busy to sew?? I've been 'too busy to sew' all weekend and I can't wait to hear the whirr of my machine again! I miss it! Hopefully I'll be back on track soon!

Days fly by!...

My goodness, I didn't realize how fast the days would seem to fly by when you start a blog! I don't always get to sew everyday, and it seems like I've not been sewing for a few days now! I have such grand plans, and I'm not in a slump, just not enough minutes to get to everything. :-/ For the past two days I have been organizing my new-to-me sewing area. I have lots of unpacking to do, lots of arranging to do, and fabric folding. Why is it that when you relocate, your fabric stash always gets so mixed up?! I know I had certain things in boxes, baggies, etc, but they don't seem to be when I unpack them! Maybe they hop out and have their own little party when I'm not watching! :-)

Hopefully I will soon figure out how to 'do it all'! Until then, I'll keep plugging along.... dreaming of future quilts. ;-) I so want to get back to my choc/pink blocks too!

Thursday Already!

Wow! Most weeks I am just amazed by how fast the week goes! It seems there is always more I hope to get done than I can actually finish. I did complete the other half of my star block. It went together very nicely, but the paper I was using for the paper-piecing was a bit too thick. When I measured my finished block, it was smaller than I thought it would be. So out came the handy dandy seam ripper! I took the 4 segments apart, and then sewed it back together with a slightly smaller seam. Worked perfectly! It was fun to make and I will be doing more of these! ;-) I think I've found a good thin paper to use. It goes thru my printer very nicely.
BTW, this is the Maryland Star from Carol Doak's book, '50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars'.

Monday Sewing

I spent today cutting strips, blocks, and working on a practice paper pieced block. I'm a slow paper piecer, but I do love the look of those blocks! I hope to do more this year. Here is a sample of half of a block I got together. It is called the Maryland Star from Carol Doak's book, '50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars'. It was really an easy block to work on as her books give you the measurements to cut all your pieces before you begin. I think I will be doing lots more! ;-)

Decision Made!

I finally decided what blocks I'd like to make with my pinks/browns. Bonnie at http://quiltville.com/index.html has given me permission to host a swap on the HGTV message boards with her Pineapple Blossom pattern. :-) I made a few practice blocks and cut up a pile of my pinks and browns today. Tomorrow I will sew! I'm really looking forward to this quilt and can't wait to get at it!
**ok, I know there is a trick to making the link Bonnie's name, but I think my brain is asleep! :-/

Play Day

I took a little play day today to do some practice blocks. I would really like to do a pink/brown quilt but can't quite make up my mind how I want to do it! These are today's blocks and I've decided I really wouldn't care to make an entire quilt with either block. ;-) We'll see what tomorrow's 'play' brings...

A Quilty Christmas

It is New Years Day and I'm just writing about Christmas! Where did that week go?! My family and friends 'get' me and I received some wonderful quilty gifts. :) I can't wait to start sewing! {Now I just need to figure out how to add photo's to my posts. *blush* }
Whoohoo, I did it! Yes, the small things do make me happy! More soon!

B-r-r-r-r

Who knew that having a Halloween Hop last week would bring the chilly weather?! We had rain, wind--- the power even went out for a few hours...
