One of Those Secret Projects...

I know I told you a few months ago that I was working on some secrets. :-)
This was one of them. I gathered a group of my HGTV friends
to send me blocks for a comfort quilt for one of our mutual friends, who has
been dealing with some health issues.
I talk to said friend almost weekly~ so this secret was
really hard for me to keep! But I did it!  :-)  I asked for Friendship Star
blocks and we had quite a discussion on which way they should spin. LOL
I like that they spin in both directions~ kind of like the wind.
As the blocks started arriving, I started laying out the quilt.
I pieced it together, quilted it, and bound it.
Another friend sent the backing fabric, and almost everyone involved contributed a little
bit to the batting.

After I had it all together I realized this friend needed a foot-warming pocket. :-)
She lives where the snow blows and it gets cold!
So I made one and added it to the back.

The backing fabric photographed much lighter than it is in real life.

I am happy to report that the quilt was received
and it is doing just the job it was intended to do!
Wrap our friend in warm hugs from all of us! :-)

I am continuing to work on a few Christmas gifts and other things.
I hope you are finding some stitching time too.

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!!

Caity ▫ Did tote

When Stephanie at Loft Creations was looking for someone to do a pattern review
 for her~ I leaped! LOL Really! A leap! :-)
Ok, maybe only my heart leaped, but still~ that's a leap!! I was really
excited when she emailed me!!
I have followed Stephanie's blog for quite some time, and I love
her style!
She was looking for reviewers for her newest pattern~
Caity ▫ Did.

Isn't that a fun name? I, um, borrowed this image from Stephanie's blog because
my printer would not print out the cover in color nicely for me. First I ran out of blue ink. Got that, and then the red ran out! :-o Argh! Some days are just like that.
Ok, I know you want to hear my review~ so here we go~~~

I loved that this pdf pattern was only 5 pages = the cover plus
4 printed pages. Easy right?
You also get a few choices in the Materials List.  I like that because
if you don't have ribbon for the weaving, you can use fabric~ and she tells you how!
If you don't have one kind of stabilizer, she gives an option there too. It makes
it really easy to gather your supplies and get to work!
The cutting directions were very clear and concise.
I didn't really like that I had to flip through the pages to find the diagrams,
but they were clearly labeled. And if that is what was needed so I didn't have to print out umpteen pages, then I am fine flipping pages. :-) One of the diagrams didn't really look like
what we were told to do in the instructions~ the weaving was missing.  Since
I don't know how diagrams are made, I'm not sure if that could be changed to match the over/under weaving or not. Otherwise, the directions were spot on!

Here is my bag~

The only thing that made me cringe a little was the step that said
'machine quilt as desired'.  Do those words strike terror in your heart?
They used to paralyze me!  :-o  But not so anymore, I guess I've been a quilter long enough to
just take them in stride. :-)
I followed some of the woven lines out to the edges and then mimicked them on the back~
quick and easy.  :-)

Inside, I made my pocket a little bigger. (I hadn't intended to, but DH was talking and I was
cutting and I cut it too big- I could've cut it down, but decided to just go with it and sew a seam down the center). :-)

I know most people wouldn't offer to review a pattern when they are in the midst of
gift making~ BUT, this is going under the tree for my DD.
The Australian postage stamp fabric has been living in my stash for some time, and I
know she will love it!  Now I just need to make a bag for me! LOL
This is one pattern you could make lots of times and not get bored. :-)
And I do think it is easy enough for a beginner with basic sewing knowledge.

One last thing that was pretty cool?~ Stephanie has a lot of tutorials on her blog,
even ones very specific to making bags. Like how she does handles, and how she squares the
bottoms of her bags. She gives the links in her pattern, so if these things are new to you~
you just need to hop online and its like having someone
hold your hand through those steps. Pretty cool, right?

Thanks Stephanie for taking a chance on me! I loved making Caity ▫ Did!
And my DD is going to love it too! ;-) ;-)

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!!

Sewing.. Sewing.. Sewing...

The weather outside might be frightful, but the mess I am making inside is nothing less
than frightful too!!  LOL
But, I'm whittling my projects down. :-)

I can give you some peeks, but not everything... not until
after the holidays.

Let me show you some of the grands gifties~

A nap sack for our DGS. He is a little past naps,
but he loves the idea of camping and sleeping bags. So I thought this would be perfect
for book reading and TV watching.
The pattern is in the newest issue of Quilts and More. It folds into the
attached pillow making a little back pack.

DGD just turned one. She is very petite,
so I am hoping the little big works just right for little snacks and teething troubles.
My kids had cloth books when they were little and dragged them all over the house.
I thought her parents might like them too.
So easy~ no torn pages and they are washable! :-)

What have you been sewing on?
I still have lots of things to do, but I know they might be spotted here~
so mum's the word!! ;-)

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!

Bad Blogger!

I am so sorry!
I don't intend to be a bad blogger, but sometimes whittling out computer time
is really difficult for me! :-o
Especially this time of year! I have been making gifts all year~ but then a magazine comes out with the 'perfect' idea for someone on my list and off I go!
Now I find myself so far behind that I must sew. Every day! And all day every day would even be better, but as we all know~ that is a dream. LOL  So I find that I sew instead of visit the computer~ but then I get to missing all my blogging friends. Its quite a circle, isn't it? :-)
I really can't show the gifts I've made yet, but I can show you that when I finally sit down in the evening, I still keep my fingers busy.  And they have been so busy that I developed a callus on one finger~ from needle sticks! :-o LOL  But its ok as I have more hand stuff to do. ;-)
But for today~
TaDa!
Merry Merry Snowmen is finished!

My rod isn't big enough so I will have to enlist hubby's help to fix that.  The pattern is by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. And my fingers are sore because I purchased her embellishment kit of teeny buttons
for the eyes etc. Sewing all those on was quite challenging! I think even more so than the wool applique~ which, by the way, I am now totally hooked on! :-)

I hope you are having some fun behind your sewing machine and enjoying
this festive time of year!

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!!

Busy Times...

Call for drastic measures! :-)
Are you making gifts for Christmas?  Every year I tell myself I will start earlier, but it never happens!
And just to keep things really busy, LOL, I also had a swap
that was due last week.  ;-)

We made string blocks. I had 17 swappers, and the color choices were
all fabulous! It makes me want to do 17 more swaps so I can request every one else's
color schemes! :-o  But I won't... at least I don't think I will. ;-)
I need to work on my Christmas gifts!! :-)

I had the great idea to lay out each swappers blocks and take a few photo's~
well, sigh, that did not happen. :-o
But I can share a photo of my blocks!  I asked for Shabby Chic-like
blocks and am thrilled with the array of blocks I received. These will be at the top of next year's list to get sewn together and quilted! :-)

I hope you are having some quilty fun too!
Until next time~
Happy stitchin'!

A Little Fun~

Last week was my birthday~ another year older, more projects to do. LOL I met at friend at the Sewing and Quilting Festival for a day of shopping fun! Oh yeah~ we had some fun!! :-)  I went to this particular festival last year and noticed it had wool vendors, and hand embroidery vendors, and lots and lots of quilting vendors. BUT, I was looking for wool! And I went to the right place. :-) One vendor had these cute stuffed carrots~ and look at all the wool scraps I got out of one!  I love it!  Lots of bits and pieces for those fun little projects. :-)

I took my newest tote~ 'That's How We Roll' by Kati Cupcake and it worked out perfectly! :-) The tote is made with a jelly roll and a little extra fabric. It has some wonderfully big pockets inside. And the handles were very comfy on my shoulder.  I had bits left from two of Sandy Gervais's Awesome and Grand Finale jelly rolls and I love how they look together.  This is the perfect tote for shopping! Or if you have a lot of things to take along on a trip~ magazines, your laptop, they would all fit.  :-)

I hope you've been having a little fun too.
Until next time~
Happy quilting!

A Secret Revealed~

When Jennie of the wonderful team of Clover & Violet asked if I'd do a little bit of pattern testing for them~ I leaped at the chance! :-) I love the challenge of sewing a new pattern!  Jennie and her Mom, Clara are a great team. They design wonderful bags that are stylish and versatile~ and completely machine washable!

As a mom to little ones, Jennie definitely understands the need to be able to wash your purse when a little oops happens. :-)  And she also understands how little time you have to sew when you have little ones. So if you find your time is crunched, but would like to be creative and make yourself a purse~ this is the pattern for you! And you can get started right away with a pdf download from their shop! :-)

The inside features a zipper pocket and an open pocket. The top has the option of a zipper closure, or not.  The zipper insertion was really easy~ so if you have never sewn one before and need a pattern that is easy to understand~ try the Penelope Purse. Seriously~ it is easy. :-)

And just so you don't think I'm saying these things because I was a pattern tester, I'll tell you I'm not. This is my honest opinion and I wasn't compensated for it or asked to write nice things. :-) Its all me! LOL

Until next time,
Happy Quilting!

I'm Either Way Behind, or Not?

First~  Veteran's Day blessings to all our service men and women, those who served, those who are serving, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our many freedoms. (hugs)

Second~ I think its the first~ I am way behind! LOL  October went by in a flash!  It didn't help my sewing that I ended up spending way too many days on the couch sick, but I am finally feeling almost back to myself. I would say normal, but those who have met me know, that would be a stretch! :-D LOL

I did do some Christmas shopping~~

But now I need to do some Christmas sewing! :-o Eek! How many days do I think I have!!??  I got a bit
carried away, so if you don't see me posting much. Just imagine this lady with her hair sticking out in all directions and wild eyes, sitting behind a sewing machine! LOL

Until next time~
Happy quilting!!

Whew! Finally Finished!

The Vintage Schnibbles pattern for this month is 'Clover' by Carrie of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.  I didn't think I would ever get done! LOL  It's not that the pattern is difficult~ it isn't. Not one bit.  But, it is time consuming and it seemed the more I sewed, the less I felt I was accomplishing. Part of that is my fault~ I didn't have 2 charm packs. I had one charm pack and a bunch of 2.5 inch strips left from another project. So maybe I had to do a bit more cutting that those who had charm packs... or maybe not, since I left the strips at 2.5" and cut my charm pack to have finished 2 inch squares too. (my quilt will end up just a little bigger than everyone else's, but I look at that as a bonus!) ;-)   Anyway~ here she is!~~

I used Grand Finale by Sandy Gervais for Moda, and then the strips were from different lines, but I think they all worked together.  We finally had a sunny day, so I enlisted hubby's help, although the breeze seemed to pick up at just the wrong time. LOL

I haven't trimmed it down around the edges yet~ I will do that after I get 'er quilted... and she has to wait in line. ;-)

Be sure to visit Sinta and Sherri for the parades the beginning of the month. I'm sure looking forward to seeing who met the challenge this month! LOL

Thanks for stopping by~
Until next time,
Happy Quilting!

October CTTY

I have been trying to get a few things made every month for my Christmas box~ and some months are more productive than others! LOL
I finally finished up these ornaments that I have been stitching on all month~

The pattern is from the magazine 'Quilter's World', but I have to admit that I finished mine off in a different way. I love using the wavy blade for my rotary cutter! LOL

To see other great projects this month, visit Anthea @ Hibiscus Stitches. :-)

Bloggers Quilt Festival

It is that time of year, and Amy has really worked hard to make this the best festival ever!
After doing a little thinking and a lot of photo searching, I discovered that over
the years I have lost some photo's! :-(  And unfortunately, the photo's I lost are the ones where I gave the project away.  I always said I'd make another for myself, but that never happened~ perhaps now it will! :-)

I am entering in the mini category. I have made a lot of mini quilts, and love the challenge of the small pieces.
This was my first and the one that hooked me~ I had saved the little cut off HST's from a larger project and thought, why not sew them together? LOL famous last words!

It measures 6.5 inches square. The little HST's are 1/2 inch. I made it in 2002 or 2003 and it is fun for me to look at it and see how far I've come. :-)

Thank you for stopping by! Now be sure to visit the Blogger's Quilt Festival and be overwhelmed by all the gorgeous quilts! :-)

Whoohoo!

I kept my nose to my machine today and got my Merry Merry Snowman (pattern by Bunny Hill)  blocks together! Yay!  Now if I am really lucky, I can get it quilted before Christmas. ;-)  LOL  I do have to say, if it wouldn't be for the quilt along that Quiltaholic organized, I might still be back on block one. :-o I really needed that little kick in the pants every month! :-)

I ordered a backing, but when the little box arrived yesterday~they sent the wrong color!   So I have to wait for the right one to show up.... I'm hoping next week. ++fingers-crossed.

Back to my machine~ much to do!! LOL

Until next time~
Happy Stitchin'!!

Girly?

I'm doing a little swap and the swapper asked for 'girly' quilt blocks. She wants to put together a quilt for her DD.  So~ would you call these girly? I couldn't get any hints as to her DD's favorite colors, or anything.  I pulled out Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine Volume 5 and found these two blocks.  The left one is called 'Mia Bella', by Judy Martin. The daisy is called 'Whoopsy Daisy' by Eileen Fowler and is paper pieced.

I love to try new blocks and doing just one for a swap is the perfect way!  :-)

I hope you are having a good week~
Happy Quilting!

A Quilter Lives Here!

Snoodles @ Lily Pad Quilting created a very cute post posing the question~ is there enough evidence in your home to prove you are a quilter?  Its titled Go To Jail. LOL

As for me, the answer is yes! Evidence is in my header and....

All you have to do is step into our home and the fun begins~

The table in the front hall has this cute little topper that was a sew along a while back.

The stairs are only used when the kids are home, so I like to stage a few seasonal things on them. This is right inside the front door.

I also have a rod right across from the stairs for a seasonal wall hanging. It looks crooked, but it isn't~ its my photo taking abilities~ or lack of said abilities! :-o

A little further into the house and you'll see the table. Normally there is a little mail on the side~ I took it off just for you! ;-)

And of course all the beds have quilts, the bathrooms have little tank toppers ;-) LOL  There are pillows all over the house, and these special pillowcases are DS's. ;-)

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our home. To see more 'evidence' of quilters in residence be sure to visit the links at Lily Pad Quilting!

Until next time~ happy stitching!!

Two Steps Behind...

..or maybe it should be two weeks behind? It seems like I am behind in everything lately, and to top it off I caught  nasty cold. Yuk.  I spent the weekend sleeping. I didn't know I could sleep all day and still sleep all night! :-o  I am slowly getting rid of the congestion, but it is going to take time... sigh to get healthy again.

I did get a CTTY project made this month~ but I can't show you. You'll just have to trust me. It is for a friend and I know she reads my blog. hi there! ;-)

Be sure to hop over to Anthea's blog and see what other crafters have been up to~ maybe you will get an idea or two. :-) Christmas is getting closer and closer!

And I did manage to get my September blocks for Country Threads BOM done~
Tomorrow the new blocks will be out already! :-o

And my last block for my Merry Merry Snowman sew along~

Now I can start putting it together. :-)

I just need this nasty cold to leave me and get some energy back. I hope you are enjoying fall and busy stitching.

More soon!~

Happy Fall!!

Yes, I'm a little late~ seems that is my middle name lately. ;-)

I've been hither and yon, visiting family and friends and am finally home again! I have much to tell you, but not today~ laundry, unpacking, all the 'fun' things about taking a trip have to be attended to.  In the mean time please visit Jane @ Jane's Fabrics and Quilts.  I am guest blogging today and it involves~

                                                                         and this~~

I'll be back soon!!!  :-)

CTTY

*Christmas Through the Year

I can't believe August is nearly over!  I have been stitching away but can't show you a few things yet. ;-)

I am making a few ornaments for my Christmas basket and got two completed for this month....

The little snowman embroidery was in the newest edition of Quilter's World magazine. I have a half dozen more traced and ready to stitch. ;-)

I promised a better photo of my mini baskets from yesterday's post.  Hot out of the wash~~

I love how it crinkles up! I'm not sure if this will go into the Christmas basket or not. Hubby likes it, so it may end up on his end table. ;-)

To see the great projects others are working on for CTTY, visit Anthea.

Until next time~

Mini Basket Challenge

Remember the mini basket challenge Temecula Quilt Co hosted in July? You can see the adorable quilts they made here.  I used one of those little Moda 'candy' sets (2.5 inch squares) to make my baskets, and I was only able to get 16 out of the pack.  No worries~ I loved making the mini baskets! They finished at 2 inches! :-)

Here is my mini~

I'm sorry but I was so excited to get it washed and crinkled, this is the only photo I took before tossing it in the water! :-o  You can't see all my little baskets very well, but all 16 are in there! :-)  My petunia's are bigger than the baskets. LOL

Today I am off to quilt a top for my Mom. Wish me luck as inspiration has not struck yet! :-)

Have a happy week!

Sewing, Sewing, Sewing

I am! Are you?  :-)

Unfortunately, I can't show you much of what I am doing right now.  Gifties for birthdays, and Christmas that I don't want to get out of the bag too soon. ;-)

I can show you my Heartspun Quilts/Nabby's Dowry blocks~

Blocks six and seven
Are you sewing along too? It isn't too late to start! Every block is on Pam Buda's blog.  You just need to do a little search~ use the search link on her sidebar and put in 'Nabby's Dowry'. ;-)  The thing I really liked about this sew along is that we did all the work first. I know that scares some people, but I really liked making all the HST's ahead of time. Every Friday I can just go peek at the new block, arrange my HST's and sew the block together. Easy Peasy!  All the 'work' is done and I'm just 'playing' on Friday!

What are you playing with today?  Let me know so I can come by and peek in!
Until next time~
Happy stitchin'!

BOM Tale~ revisited

First thank you all for your comments! I haven't had time to respond, but thought you would all be interested to know that I did write to Marsha McCloskey~ and she did write back! I just love it when designers find the time to do that!!  :-)

She told me that it was fine for me to use the star in my quilt as long as I labeled it giving her credit for the center star, which is her original design and is called Mexican Pinwheel.  She also said she loves it when people use her designs, she just isn't so happy when they rename her blocks and then take credit for them. Which I totally agree with!  Another thing I really like is how she handled the whole situation~ quietly letting the KC Star know it was her block, not a version of it, but exactly her block, with a different name.

The whole situation gives me lots of things to ponder, as copyright issues totally baffle me most of time. In this instance, it all makes perfect sense. :-)

This isn't the best photo, but I thought you'd like to see all my blocks so far~ I really like the red/white. The sashing is made up of loads of 1 inch HST's~ maybe I should start working ahead? ;-)

Thank you again for stopping by, for leaving such thoughtful comments and just for being here for me.
It means the world to me!

Happy weekend!
And happy stitchin'!

A Tale of a BOM~~

Many of you know that I am doing the red/white quilt that is published in the Kansas City Star newspaper the third Sunday of every month.  I was cruising right along making the blocks~ some of them, I didn't care for the way the designer assembled them, but that was ok, I just did it another way. It's my quilt, right?

Well. July's block created quite a stir! :-o  The pattern was for the large center star and the designer called it 'Cupid's Dart'. I got right to work! A feathered star! This star is the whole reason I decided to make this BOM~ I love feathered stars!!  :-)  I thought it would take me a while to do it~ and it did!  Then I heard the news that it was recalled~ see this article.  Uh-oh!  What to do, what to do. :-/  I was quite far into the block so I went to the library and got Marsha's book. The Mexican Pinwheel in her book is a 27.5 inch block. The paper published a 28.5 inch star. (which I already had cut out and started).

So my question is, if I put it in my quilt and give Marsha McCloskey  credit on my label, is it ok to use it in my quilt?   After all this work, I kinda hate to leave it out?  What is the 'right' thing to do here?

Thanks for stopping by, I am looking fwd to hearing your replies!
Have a great weekend and
Happy Stitching!!

Absent But Not Idle...

Sorry I have been missing for the last week. :-/  No, nothing like a fun trip or anything, just the usual busyness and a short trip taking DS2 back to college. It just seemed like getting the camera out was one thing too many on most days. Have you ever had that feeling? Please say yes, I don't want to be known as the only slacker! :-o

I did manage to fit in a little sewing to keep my sanity. ;-)

The Nabby's Dowry blocks from Pam @ Heartspun Quilts. This is such a unique sew-along. We made all the needed HST's at the beginning and each Friday she gives us a block to use them in. Nothing but fun on Friday! :-)

These are the July and August blocks for the BOM at Country Threads. We get the patterns for a small block and large block at the beginning of the month. It is going to be a very cool sampler.  I am just lovin' my blocks in my Civil War scraps! :-)

And I've joined a little sew along with the ladies on the HGTV message board. We are working on Bunny Hill's Merry Merry Snowmen pattern. I am doing mine with wools and really like how the blocks are coming together. This is the 7th block. Only 2 to go! :-)  I need to get the next one prepped today so I can keep up!

Are you finding it hard to sew in the summer too?  I have been spending lots of time in the cottage quilting those tops for my Mom, lots of time in the flower beds, and in between I am trying to rearrange our living room... we use the family room the most, but I want the living room to be useful too, not just a collection of 'stuff'. So I am off to see what I can accomplish today~

Thanks for visiting and
Happy Stitchin'!!

Season By Hand~

Have you been following along with Clover & Violet's summer series?

Well now is the time to show them what you have been hand working on this summer~ and they have some terrific prizes!   Stop over and take a look at all the wonderful summer projects that were made.  :-)

Once again~ I know you are getting tired of them!~ I am showing all my dish cloths. I don't have a speck of Sugar 'n Cream yarn left in the house. :-)  And this isn't really all of them, I think the pile is missing 4 or 5.  ;-) But I must say, it was a great project for the summer. ;-)

Now I am back to embroidering, but I can't show you what I am working on... yet. ;-) LOL

Have a great week!

Happy Friday!

The weekend is near, do you have plans? Do they involve sewing or quilting?   As for me, I hope to do a bit of piecing, but we will see what happens. Weekends are always busy at my house. ;-)

First up we have~

Last month I worked on crocheting dish cloths. Since I love them so much, and so does every one I know, I kept crocheting until I had used up all the yarn and extra bits I had. It made quite a stack!

This month, I made little net scrubbies to go along with some of the dish cloths. Again, I just kept my hook busy until I used up all the net I had. :-)

I've now packed the hooks back away and need to figure out a different project for August. LOL

To be inspired with Christmas projects, be sure to visit our hostess~ Anthea @ Hibiscus Stitches

I was caught up with my Nabby's Dowry blocks until this morning when the next one came out. LOL

And finally~ I have 16 baskets for Temecula Quilt Co's challenge.  I used a little 2.5 inch Moda candy pack and ran out of squares, so I think I will stop here and hopefully I'll be able to make a cute little project with them. :-)

Have a great weekend!
And happy stitching!

A Week!?

Ok, who is flipping the calendar when I'm not looking!? I don't think a week has passed since my last post, I think someone is tricking me! ;-)

Well, it has been a busy week. :-) LOL  First up, the Vintage Schnibble project for this month~
When Sinta and Sherri announced it would be Lincoln from 'Another Bite of Schnibbles' by Carrie Nelson, I thought it sounded familiar~ and not because I have paged through the book so many times that I now have loose pages. :-)  I went to my 'waiting-to-be-quilted' stash and yes! Indeed I had made this Scnibble in wall hanging size in the past.

I decided it really wouldn't be playing fair to just show that one to y'all. :-D  So I pulled out all my patriotic scraps~ and believe me, some were really small! You can't see where I did some creative piecing. ;-) And made the larger size 'Lincoln'~

I chose not to add any border so it would be like the smaller one. It measures 63.5 inches square~ the perfect size for the back of our love seat.  ;-) Not sure when I will get it quilted, but surely before next July! :-o

I just took this off the machine on Monday. It is quilt #3 for my Mom. We both made this quilt top from kits I had purchased from JoAnn's some years ago (on clearance~ I love a sale!). I pieced mine on my treadle (and it is on that waiting-to-be-quilted shelf)  :-/  As soon as I get all my Mom's quilts finished, I plan to get busy with that shelf! LOL

Hope you are finding lots of time for sewing and quilting this summer!
Until next time~
