Valiant early war Brits

Painted these guys for a Crete scenario I will host at the club next week. I'm a fan of the Valiant figures. These guys will represent the defenders of the Heraklion airfield versus the Valiant paras I have worked on over the last couple of months.

Happy Canada Day ... and some more fallschirmjaegar and a glider

Continuing to turn out Valiant fallschirmjaeger, this time with support weapons, and also an Italeri 1/72 Waco glider model. I butchered this - broke the hinges off the cockpit (so I just glued it on - won't open now), made a mess of the invasion stripes when I overthinned the white paint and it ran under the masking tape, and didn't bother with all the fiddly little bits for rigging and the tow lug (which I dropped in the carpet and lost anyway). Soooo... this is a wargaming piece best viewed from 3+ feet!

Valiant fallschirmjaeger and a 1/48 Ba-64

This week we have some more fallschirmjaeger by Valiant - oversize 1/72 models.

I also completed a nice little 1/48 Ba-64 Soviet armoured car kit by Tamiya. This was another Christmas gift and I wonder whether actual mixes with Valiant 1/72... I was planning on using these fallschirmjaeger for Bolt Action with Scott facing his 28mm French - my guys will be undersized but perhaps not ridiculously. Of course I won't use the Soviet armoured car but I was thinking about picking up another 1/48 kit perhaps a panzer II or a 222 to give my guys some light armored support.

This photo compares a Valiant 1/72 and a metal RAFM 20mm fallschirmjaeger - the Valiant is much bigger - perhaps true 25mm scale with oversized heads. But he is almost comparable to the 1/48 crewman in the Ba-64.

If anyone out there has an opinion,

What do you think of the Valiant range?
Can one get away with using them on the same table - perhaps not in the same unit or same side - with 28s?

Early war fallschirmjaeger, a Gloster Gladiator and some more British guns

Worked up some stuff for a Crete game I would like to host later this summer.  Well, neither of the guns are suitable, but I might use the 2-pounder to stand in for a second Bofors gun in the Heraklion paradrop scenario since I only have one Bofors.

An old Hinchliffe 2-pounder ATG

 An Airfix 25 pounder

First batch of some Valiant fallschirmjaeger - HQ section and a 50mm mortar team. I like the Valiant figures very much - the sculpts are oversized with large heads, but from 3 feet away I like the way they look. They are also very easy to paint because the detail is clear and well raised.

And finally, something to sit on the airstrip at Heraklion - a vintage Airfix Gloster Gladiator. Simple little kit that was a gift from my mother-in-law's beau who is a flea market picker extraordinaire.

US WW2 Rangers

Here are some 1/72 Valiant US infantry done to represent Rangers for this scenario modeled after the climax battle scene from The Eagle Has Landed. I plan to host this using Bolt Action at our next club night.

I'm a big fan of the Valiant figures- wish the range would expand to early war and eastern front.

Wehrmacht and 4Ground semi-detached house

I finished off some odds and end for my 1944 Germans - Valiant figures including medic, Panzershrek team, sniper and some additional riflemen. The Pak 38 is by Plastic Soldier Company - a very nice little kit with great detail and extras.

The house is one of those prepainted, laser-cut jobs by 4Ground. It's an outstanding product - interior detail, 3 floors and removable roof. Not cheap, and takes a bit of time to assemble, but a really great product. I prefer this to painting resin or plastic kits any day. I highly recommend them - must pick up some more.

1/72 Valiant and Zvezda stuff

Hy hobby ADD seems to have taken me adrift from the Punic project for the last 2 weeks. First I did some nice 1/72 Russian Napoleonic infantry by Zvezda as a hiatus (huge 1812 project that will take years to complete):

Then I decided I really want to run a game of Chain of Command, so I started on a platoon of 1944 Yanks by Valiant - oversized figures but I would have to say that I like them very much:

I hope I can remain disciplined enough to finish the Yanks...

Here we have some German Heer by Valiant in 1/72 for a Fireball Forward scenario I am hoping to run in the next few weeks.

WW2 Valiant

I painted a handful of Valiant 1/72 GIs for a change. I really like these models, too bad they don't mix with anything else in either size or proportion. That wouldn't be a problem if Valiant did a complete range, but so far they only have late war Western Front covered. Booh.

Thinking of out of scale, oversized figures....
Does my butt look big in this?
