Another tape with no info listed on the cover. No song titles or contact info. Only thing i can figure out is by the 617 area code on the tape is that they were from the Boston area.... I'm not even sure if i got the track numbers correct since the sings seem to go right into each other.

Any info out there????

Brick Face - S/T 1994 Demo

I once had a minor altercation with the singer guitar player of this band at a gig once. I was climbing on the roof of the club and he ran in and told the owner. Fucking rat... All that aside, i dig this slice if NJ noise core.

Chaindrive - 3 songs - 1992 Cameltoe Productions

Funny story about this band and an encounter with the police i had. My old band played with these guys once and i bought a shirt from the band because i liked them. The shirt was a graphic drawing of a 3 way gay orgy and all the dudes were dressed up like cops and underneath it said "PIGS SUCK, FUCK 'EM". I got pulled over by the cops wearing said shirt and it was not a pleasant experience... Ah, to be young again.

No cover or track list for this one. If anyone has any info feel free to drop it.

S-Fro-7 - Radio Galaxies

I (barely) remember seeing S-Fro-7 at The Brighton Bar in Long Branch NJ back in the mid 90's. I can't remember with who of if we played with them but i liked them enough to get this tape off of them. I always liked the live track here and it made of bunch of comp. tapes i made back in the day. This is some pretty cool Lo-Fi Noise / Grungey Punk rock. Info is pretty scarce on the Denver Colorado band so if anyones has any info feel free to drop it here.

Gigantic - Tommy Southard Delux Edition

Back in the early 90's there were a ton of cool bands happening in and around NJ. Gigantic were one of my faves. Even though i was in a straight up metal punk band i loved these hard rocking indie guys. They were raucous and noisy and rocking. They always played their asses off and it really looked like they were having the best time on stage. When my shit band got signed i tried to help them out and get them in touch with some folks who could help them. Not sure what ever happened, if they made contact not not, those days are fuzzy at best now but i know they broke up not too soon after due to some personal strife. Another one for the, shoulda, coulda, woulda file.... I'm pretty sure they made me this rehearsal tape of newer stuff to check out in hopes i could get it to some ears that would listen. Anyhow, this tape rules, 3 dudes down in the basement ripping it up, playing their asses off, and having fun. Done live and in 1 take each even the boom box quality doesn't matter, at least to me. This throws me back in a time machine. I don't know how many people will be into this or will give a shit about a small piece of New Jersey time/history but i love it. Gigantic should have been GIGANTIC!

Gigantic - Half Hour

Gigantic - First Names

Gigantic - Multiply

Gigantic - Great Big Man

Gigantic - Last Song

Gigantic - I Invented The Wheel

Gigantic - I Never Expected Anything

SmogMonster - Demo

Bio
SmogMonster is the spawn of great BASS heavy bands of the past , such as Flipper, Deep Purple, and yes even Sabbath, and more recent extreme bass-based bands, such as GodHeadSilo, EnemyMine, Death From Above and Lightning Bolt. .. The band is named after one of the finest Godzilla films of all times - - the environmentally conscious semi-musical/semi-animated early 70’s "Godzilla vs. The Smogmonster" - "history shows us again and again, how nature points out the folly of men ...." .. Armed with stacks of old and semi-reliable Ampeg, Peavey, Kustom and Guild amplifiers and a handful of old Fender basses - SmogMonster produces a big low-end throb that relies on extreme volume and lots of overdrive to make two basses and drums fill in all the sonic spaces. .. SmogMonster is Krishna on fuzz bass, Dave on base bass, Rick on drums and Nino on vocals. .. Also - if any of your are guitar weenies - check out Krishna’s guitar and bass restoration service - "any guitar, any color": .. http://www.bostonguitarrepair.com

Hell Sausage - Look Up AT The Sun And Sneeze Demo

One of the best demo tapes you have never heard. Noise & awesomeness from NJ circa mid/late 80's on the equally awesome Cool Beans Tapes. Cool Beans was run by one time Monster Magnet guitarist John McBain & Former Monster Magnet drummer/singer and light dude and all around great guy Tim Cronin.

Pretty sure this was Joe Hell Sausage alone in his garage drunk and high and making music pretty much for himself. It rules.

I love this tape.

The Burnt Toast Band - S/T Tape

Ok, enough with the reader submissions for now. I just found this tape in a thrift store here in NJ. I almost didn't buy because the cover looked sorta hokey and it was a whole .99 cents! and i didn't want to waste a buck on it.... hey, i'm unemployed and every buck counts! But, i opened it up and the 1st song title was "Stoned".... So i figured oh hell, i will pay a buck to hear it. I'm glad i did. It is actually a pretty awesome lo-fi & overdriven heavy 70's stoner style rock tape with some really long guitar jams with plenty of that slightly inept playing that teeters on the brink of destruction @ every note! = awesome! Its mega distorted and pretty low fi which reminds me of some George Brigman and new band Vee Dee in spots, with a slightly more pop element times. And i do mean slight. maybe it has a bit of a Seattle Grunge thing going on too.... ?There is something else it reminds me of but i just can't place it in my brain right now. (maybe Mad River or Pavlov's Dog) If i was told this was 1974 instead of 1994 it would not be hard to believe it. It sounds that authentic. I really dig it besides the lame tape cover. I searched & searched for info on this band from Scranton PA and found NOTHING. If you have any info please let me know. All i have is the info on the tape.

Fran Dodgson - Bass
Paul Iacavazzi - Drums
Matthew Balmer - Guitar
Pete Iacavazzi - Guitar / Vocals

Produced by John Meyers at Plymouth Rocks Recording Studio. (I'm half tempted to call the number listed!)

For now enjoy!

Dog Of Mystery - I Saw Mommy Kissing Satan's Claws

On this fine x-mas eve of 2011 i give you one of my all time fave holiday classics. Pre-Monster Magnet, Dog Of Mystery, doing I Saw Mommy Kissing Satan's Claws. This is taken from the uber rare Island of Misfits Toys tape compilation from 1988, put out by Cool Beans Tapes. Cool Beans was run by John McBain who was the original guitar player for MM & DOM. Lead vocals are done by one of my all time fave rock dudes and all around swell guy Big Tim Cronin. Awesome.
Have a happy trĂ–Ă–GRyMMkVltt-0)))))™ holidaze!

SHROUD - Suicide Mission

Occasional i get some mail from people asking to post their demo. Here is one that i liked.

Demo Tapes Blog,
I like your blog, and I thought I'd send you this, though I really think it's not 100% fitting, as it's more art damaged than anything else. well, here's the full story... In 1992 some friends and I formed a band, SHROUD, for one show. It was to be completely improvised - no rehearsals - and the music turned out to be a weird doom-punk-jazz with a twisted vibe. We played said show, and were asked to open for Unsane a few weeks later, as well as record. We decided to liquidate the band immediately after the studio. The recording produced the limited (500 copies) cassette "Suicide Mission" in 1993. I understand that the sound here isn't for everyone, but I though you might get a kick (negative or positive) from this release.
Enjoy,
Adel Souto

Kung-Pao - Demo

Not sure what ever happened to these guys but they were a lot of fun. Often lumped in the "Stoner Rock" category i hear more Fudge Tunnel and Killdozer than Fu Manchu or Monster Magnet and more noise and aggression than laid back weed vibes.

Social Decay - Practice Tape Sept. Oct. 87

SOCIAL DECAY REHEARSAL TAPE FROM 1987... Its a little noisy and ruff but man we were thrashing shit up back then. Fast and noisy drunk-core! I left some of the banter is as well. It is really great hearing Eddie alive and talking and asking what time it is because he has to be home for dinner! classic. RIP brother. Also Rich Beattie saying he wants to drink a little more.... and a little story about the "God Father".... Stupid, stupid fun... I know this might not appeal to lots of people but this is for my friends and for me... I guess you had to be there...

Godspeed Live @ The Cafe Bar Long Branch NJ - TV Eye

Just found this tape. Its a really amped up live version of The Stooges TV Eye done by Godspeed, followed but a big E Jam @ the end of the set. Godspeed always did these big jams at the end of the set and usually had people join them on stage to create even more havoc. One of the many who would join them on stage was Ted Mechanic. Ted was an old Poet. He must have been in his mid/late 60's and he was great. He was always out at shows and supporting the youngins back then. He would jump on stage at the end of Godspeed shows and rant and rave his poetry over the chaos and din of feedbacking guitars and noise. From the scrawl on the tape this looks like a show played with Daisy Cutter & John Butler joins Godspeed on stage at the end as well. Anyway, this goes out to anyone who knew Ted and I'm sure they would all say what a great guy he was. R.I.P. Ted. You were an awesome cat and you are missed...

T.F.N. - Political Death 1986 Demo

Oh what a glorious pile of shit mess is this...

If this demo doesn't sum up our scene back then i don't know what does...
T.F.N. stands for TOTAL FUCKING NOISE! and man is this ever!
This is a horrible mess of vodka, cheap beer, and angel dust. Kids just getting fucked up for the sake of getting fucked up, be it boredom or to escape (There were plenty of well off kids who just wanted to get high but more than most were trying to escape)and then forming a band and ranting and raving about whatever... I love this pile of shit, i really do. It's a total crossover thrash hardcore nightmare played by 3 south jersy knuckleheads who could barely get it together and all of whom went on to play with Social Decay at one time or another.

Bass player Dave Gutierrez played with us 1st from around 85 to 87. And now plays with the newly brought back to life Social Decay. (we just played our 1st show in years)

Then Eddie "Boppo" Ramos (R.I.P.) played drums for Social from around 87 to 90 or so when we finally called it quits. I miss that son of a bitch...

and Mike "Lunkhead" Roberts played with us off and on from around 87 or 88 to 90 as well.

Anyway, just like the Lethal Aggression demo this throws me right back to that tiny little dingy basement where we would jam and get fucked up day after day after day and create quite a god awful racket. Man, we sure didn't change the world (we weren't really trying to anyway) but fuck it if we didn't have fun...

Here is 2/3 of TFN... Unknown cat on the left, Dave, & Mike AKA Lunkhead and Rob D of then Lethal Aggresion on the right: This is what the 80's looked like in NJ...

Psycho Sin - Violent New World 1985 Demo

You've all heard of Lo-Fi, well here is some NO-FI. These guys and gal were kings of pissed of, don't give a fuck noise of the highest order! If you weren't there there is no way to fully understand what i am saying! long before industrial bands were in fashion these guys were clanking steel pipes, trashing metal, banging on steel drums, mutilating accordions, and destroying everything in their path! Carl Casanova their lead (singer) was a good friend of mine for years back in the mid 80's and he was way active in the small underground NJHC scene back then, putting on shows at soup kitchens and putting out tape comps and helped out Social Decay a bunch back then. We played a bunch of shows together back then and i probably have about 8 to 10 different Pycho Sins demo's that i hope to get to at some point. I have tons of pics and flyers too, man i need more time to archive all this shit. Not that anyone gives a fucking shit... But here is the Violent New World 1985 Demo. As lo-fi (recorded on boom boxes) and pissed as it gets! I lost the track list to this years ago some some of these titles might be wrong, if you know, tell me so!!!
Also, you MUST get to the end of this demo for the "Filthy Skinhead Comic"
yeah and check this shit out! Psycho Sin myspace!!!!
