Sleepy spaces

I thought I would show you all some of my favorite bedrooms and talk about the perfect bed today because that is where I would like to be. A recent bout of insomnia is making for some tired, less-productive days.

One of the few places that I choose muted colors over vibrant is in bedrooms. I tend to go with very traditional furnishings too.

I am cool with decorative throw pillows but my sheets and pillow cases must be white and 100% cotton. I have even turned my husband into a bedding snob. Last year, in a classic non-label reading- Kerry-move, I accidentally bought sheets that were 50% poly. My husband was shocked and appalled. I tried really hard to pretend that I did not mind them at all and I meant to buy them. They pilled near our feet and were hot and uncomfortable. I finally pulled them off and threw them in with our pile of painting drop cloths in the basement.

Are you picky about your pillow or blankets? I used to sleep with a down comforter but its just overkill. I now have two thin cotton quilts and an electric foot warmer for the winter.

Is your bedroom dark and cave-like or light and bright? Mine is light and bright which is great when you are not trying to sleep but it stinks at 8 am on Saturday morning when the sun aligns perfectly with the space between the blinds and my left eye.

That's enough pillow talk for today. I think its almost nap time. Yay!

inspiring spaces

When I was seven or so, I painted alongside my grandmother in a small section of her attic near a window. Even at that age I recognized the romance of the setting. My painting spot is not nearly as romantic and inspiring as these studios but it gets the job done.

I spent the weekend wrist deep in paint and I have blue hands and ruined nails to prove it.

Do you have an inspiring space to work in?

In my dreams...

I have been meaning to show my bedroom here, nothing perfect but I quite like it. I thought a nice, sunny day like today provided the perfect opportunity. I knew there were a few items to pick and tidy but when I looked around it was so much messier than I realized. There were things out of place that had just become invisible to me. Does that happen to you? Do toss a sweater on a chair to be dealt with in a few minutes and a month later realize that its been there since Christmas. You never notice it even though you walk by it at least 10 times a day?
Oversharing....
Here are a few spaces that inspired my not-ready-for-primetime-bedroom.

Kelley Proxmire

Suzanne Kasler

It is all about the calming palette for me. I see many bedrooms that are really awesome but, for me, too stimulating. I favor bold colors around my house but I'd be thinking "Damn, that's cute" instead of sleeping in a room like that.
Stay tuned for a peek into my room...after I hang up clothes.

A little weekend inspiration

I hope your weekend is as warm and sunny as mine is forecast to be. We are set to have a very un-January like 70 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. I am thrilled as I have been trying to figure out how we could possibly move further south.
Enjoy!

4 Favortite Chinoiserie fabrics

I am obsessing over fabric...again.
When the teens don't clean their rooms, complete their chores satisfactorily or otherwise make me crazy, I daydream about stuff I want.
Chinoiserie goodies of all sorts top my list. I thought I would round up my favorite Chinoiserie fabrics for some daydreaming fodder.
Let's start with an icon that is my #1 favorite of all fabrics anywhere.

Brunschwig and Fils Le Lac tops them all and it comes in other colorways like this swanky blue.

Don't even get me started on how fantastic David Hicks' Vase is.

That pink one is calling me.

Chiang mai, it has dragons, flowers, and porcelain. What could be better?

The last is "Tea house" from Thibaut.

I really love this fabric and think the black or brown colorways are the nicest. I considered using it for my living room curtains but went a simpler route instead.

Thibaut house some other wonderful Chinoiserie fabrics and wallpaper in their Tea House collection like "lanterns" and "meridian" that are worth a look.

What would you add to my list?
