ONE ROOM CHALLENGE SPRING 2019 WEEK 3

How we got to week three so fast baffles me.  I mean "tick tock" right?

Were you all surprised that I was doing something other than black and white?  I mean it would have been so easy just to push that button....and of course right about now I am wishing I had....with mere days left to complete this.....

Any way let's catch up.....Starting with the dining room.  Metrie is one of the sponsors and we went back and forth since the offer was very specific.  I was hoping to do board and batten but that idea got squashed....whaaaa

Then I was going with shiplap but vertical not horizontal.  The only problem was that all the window and door casings would have had to be removed.....much more labor intensive.

My contractor was giving me one day of free labor which is critical since my budget is only 3000.00

After an afternoon pow wow we decided that using primed MDF cut into strips was the best route to go.

To save even more money instead of going higher [which I wanted to do] we just cut the sheets [4ft x 8ft] in half and it fit on top of the 5 inch floor moulding.  I am nothing if not reasonable about decorating.

It's not rocket science people.....

Especially since I have my broke ass sister hounding me everyday about the budget.....and I mean that in the most loving way sister......:)

The next decision was wallpaper.  I was dead set on brown grasscloth....I think last weeks post even featured it on my inspiration board.

But.....I had an "ah ha" moment and decided to do a print....I know...."who am I?"

I wanted something pretty [a la Marky Mark] [Mark Sikes.....my inspiration for the space]  so I chose this large scale pattern from one of our sponsors Pacific Designs!

The chandelier above arrived from one of our sponsors Hudson Valley Lighting!  And guess what?

It is from the Mark Sikes Collection.....How lucky am I?  Very pumped about this situation.

Painters came on Tuesday to paint out all the trim in the LR and the DR.

Shutters off and looking nice and bright in there!

In the LR the sofa got picked up Monday morning

Getting covered in this fabulous Mark Sikes stripe from Schumacher who so graciously gifted me.

Yes I did say MS stripe.....

I am not putting a skirt on the sofa....reminder below what it looks like...

Would have loved to buy a new sofa but this one is my old one and it's a really good sofa....

We took down the shutters....

And the room filled with light!  I am not opposed to shutters but the 2" ones take away 50% of your light!

My friend Rose found this coffee table at an estate sale and decided not to use it..... Whoa what a deal at 49.00!

I am painting it since I already have a dark piece of furniture in the room....and it is not in the best shape....
Although the picture above is from Marks website:)

I have been hoarding blue and white from HomeGoods for a couple of weeks now....

I unwrapped it all on Friday so I think I am good there!

Now here is a good story....I saw this at a flea market about 2 weeks ago but it said NFS and sold all over it so I let it go.

But I couldn't stop thinking about it and was there last weekend and guess what...we inquired about it and he sold it to me for 50.00.  WHAT?????  Yes rub the sleep out of your eyes.....and read that again!

It had a Pier One sign on it that must have been from many years ago!

It's so perfect to go between the 2 windows...

Of course now I need a ton of stuff to go on it:)

Since HG's is right behind my house I cruise it almost daily....

Another haul from HG's

The fabric below is from another sponsor Fabricut!  Can you just picture that bamboo shelf in-between these curtains?  I'm damn giddy!

Dropped them off at Sudi's today who is giving me the "friends and family"discount:)

And that's it for week 3.  I really only have 16 days until the photographer comes....this is real time people and to say I'm stressed is a gross understatement.

Of course on top of all this I have a client who is having a party in 2 weeks so there is that......

Take a look at the other features designers progress and see if they are panicking yet :)

DETAILS FROM THE FALL 2016 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

Whew what a week huh?  Election results and the ORC reveal all in the same day.....not to sound trite but it was history making on both accounts.

What am I talking about?

Well I painted a room dark and for a girl who thinks white is always right that is huge:)

See how I bring it back to me......hee haw

So Wednesday was dump day as we all just bombarded you with a million pictures knowing your attention span is that of a gnat.

Today is about details and why decisions were made.

Why did I add the Metrie trim on the walls?  To bring them forward and add texture.  Same reason you add wallpaper..... it just allows the walls to stand on their own.  Since I knew there would be a large headboard and nightstands I only added one horizontal strip up high!

It's best to use this treatment on a wall that doesn't have a window or door on it.

Why did I go dark?  Well to make more of an impact of course!  But really if you think about it there are 2 rooms that can be dark.....the dining room because you are normally there in the evening and a bedroom right?  In my situation I have cathedral ceilings, plenty of windows and set of french doors so that helps to break up the darkness.

Let's talk about the bathroom a little.  I have  travertine that was all the rage in the 90's.  Since I just made over my kitchen.....gutting this room is not in the budget right now......although it has been said that the word budget has never stopped me before:)

I picked the wallpaper because there are some taupe veins running through the tile and I thought that would help to warm it up.

This Thibaut paper [ T6815] has so much texture but is actually a vinyl!  Yup.....and by painting out the trim, doors and ceiling with this Williamsburg Brand paint color [CW-60 Cole Stone]  I limit the colors in the space to only 2 hues.

Before.....

 After.....

Another problem I encountered were the lights I ordered from Bellacor  I did not want to take the mirrors down but because the globe of the light did not have a back you could see the light bulb reflecting.

After trying a full glass one it was too bright in there....huh?  Could that be?  Yes!

I went back to Lowe's and came up with these.....creating a much softer light.  I hope Bellacor is not mad at me:)

At the last minute when I knew my Bernhardt dresser was not gonna make it I had to give this chest a small makeover....

Check that off the list:)

I kept my cream linen table skirt on the other side for softness....

The lamps are from Barbara Cosgrove....I ordered the Currey and Co black ones but then I switched up the wall color:)  I am sure they will go in a room somewhere!
Whats better than a black bowl with a moss ball in it?

I was lucky that Phil offered to make me this console and it's so pretty!  I played around with the styling a little:)

I'm a sucker for these glass beads....

I love the graphic pattern [Ralph Lauren] fabric I chose on the stools....they were very easy to recover!

I am starting to build a relationship with my Arteriors floor lamp from ATG Store

So Cami thinks I did all of this for her right?
I have a mix on the bed combining both cream and white.  You can see below that I added a cowhide on top of my Karastan rug.....hopefully it will help with Cami's dirty paws:)

It's nice looking through from my family room and seeing the dark walls....

I want to thank Linda for all of her support and inviting me to participate once again!  We had some great sponsors....and they were all so wonderful to work with.

I suppose that's it but if you have any questions then shoot me an email!

If you want to start from the beginning....

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE FINAL REVEAL FALL 2016

I know y'all have a lot to get to today with 20 reveals so I am going to keep it fairly short with details coming later!

I'm gonna try anyway:)

First of all....thanks to Linda from Calling It Home for including me.  I have been lucky to participate in almost all of the One Room Challenges and I am so grateful for her trust in my ability to put out a good room!  Sniff sniff.....emotional.

20 incredibly talented designers have worked tirelessly for your pleasure so hat's off to everyone.  And a serious shout out to my clients for your patience:)

As you know my bedroom, along with my whole house is white [including my floors!] but for some reason I got a wild hair and went dark.

And that is why they call me "crazy Sherika".....I will keep you guessing!

Before!

After.....Benjamin Moore Iron Mountain

As you know my Bernhardt bedside dresser didn't make it

BUT...... I painted this bad boy up and she is representing....ha ha.

The first thing I picked was the Karastan Rug so that set the tone for the room.
And I love the legs on the Lamps Plus benches!

The Annie Selke bedding is one of my fav elements of the room and adds an abundance of texture!

Cami said it's so comfy!

Here are my bird prints that I got from Scott's all framed up!

Before....

The Lee Industries chair that got recovered and my Schumacher pillow takes center stage!

The Stanley dresser that I purchased through Red Pen Procurement is gorgeous!

Before

This was where the armoire held my TV.....one of the good things about dark walls is the TV recedes!  Remember I showed you that one of the drawers drops down to hold the cable box.

After

I was afraid that the Arteriors floor Lamp from ATG stores was too big but I am getting used to it!

Before....

After...

You can also see how nicely the Metrie trim looks to frame out the ceiling!
I actually purchased this light from Mitchell Gold before my photo shoot for Atlanta Magazine and it's perfect!

Before....

After
The new Metrie backband trim frames out my pocket doors!

This gallery wall in between the closet and bath room was a last minute decision.  I actually thought the 4 birds would be here but after receiving the Minted Art [top 2 prints and the one on the floor]  it needed height and impact!

The AGT Stores Jamie Young lamp is perfect on this console that my friend Phil Kazmark made for me when the one I wanted was backordered!

Before....

The Thibaut textured wallpaper helped to warm up the bathroom and take the focus away from my travertine tile:)  I painted the trim and ceiling with the Williamsburg paint to get a cohesive  look!

The Bellacor lights give me twice the light I used to have!

Love the new Kohler Purist faucets!

The rug from AllModern

These great towels above and below from AllModern

And there you have it.  These pictures were taken by my good friend Tina Rowden and I am so appreciative:)

I will share my crappy pictures this weekend!  All the details and more shots!

Please take a moment to visit all the reveals today.....it will take your mind off the election results:)
