DETAILS FROM THE ORC

Well that sure was fun.....  Reading all of the wonderfully kind comments about my sisters makeover!  I can tell you that she is thrilled and said that she just wants to stay home all day in her pretty room....ha ha:)

As promised I have some details for you today.  There were a few questions so hopefully I can give you the info you are looking for.

Let's start with some of the reasons for things.

In the beginning I mentioned that the room is very awkward.

The fireplace is NOT centered in the room.  There is that dead space in front of the hearth where it would be great if you could have some seating.

Taking out the window seat really helped to be able to move the whole room to the right.  All of that being said....even putting a rug in the room presented some problems with it coming to a point in the middle of the hearth!

Crap

Why am I saying all of this....because sometimes you just have to work with what you have.  For extra seating I did choose to have a wing chair recovered and placed over by the bookcases.

Yup this is the before!  I called my trusty slipcover guy [Jim Brown] on Tuesday [who comes on site to do this] and he came on Thursday [after I made a trip to the fabric store Wednesday to get some fabric].  What I picked was a linen/cotton that was backed so she will have to dry-clean it but at a little over $10.00@yard I did not have time to think about it!

I had him just rip off the skirt!

I also had the skirted ottoman slipcovered in a more modern style.  Pillow is old from Pottery Barn.  Throw is from HomeGood's.

Another thing we did was stain the mantel darker...
See how red it is?  It got a coat of Old English...

The same day I drove to get the slipcover fabric I stumbled on this great trim for the curtains...at Fabric and Fringe Warehouse.

The lighting was a last minute decision also.  I had 3 selections but these from Ikea worked the best!
I really did not know what I was going to do with these shelves but while at Ikea I saw these pitchers and they were the perfect color!

I also got the jars there but the black and white bowls came from HomeGood's.

The black and white pillows came from West Elm I think last year....yes I buy random pillows occasionally :)

The art came from Minted [except the far left which my sister whipped up for me].  The small round mirror came from Target about 8 years ago ha ha. Hoarder collector.

OK....I think that is everything.  I did spend the bulk of my budget on furniture.  To me that is the most important thing in the room....especially one that is going to be used so much.  Just saying!

Again thanks to all of my sponsors for enabling me to give my sister her new space.  So appreciative.

I am digging into the ORC linking projects this weekend.  I have already seen some great spaces so go take a look!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends:)

BEFORE AND AFTER

Hello???  Anyone there?  I know….kind of fell off the wagon.

I had a routine in Florida of doing…….well nothing :)  It was colder this year than normal and a little rainy on a few days.

We ended up getting hooked on a TV series that someone had recommended to me….The Killing.

So much so that after season one [I had bought the DVD] we found it on Netflix and had to finish watching seasons 2 & 3.  Olympic binge watching….[Yes you read that right…36 episodes].  I then found out it was cancelled [oh crap] but Netflix saved the day by picking it up and ordered 6 more episodes.

I kind of fell in love with Joel Kinnaman who plays Steven Holder.  Hot dude.

Anyway enough about my boring life and on to what is really important…..world peace.

And design.

You guys have been with me on this project and have see updates along the way.

I had some professional shots by Jennifer Kessler taken to showcase the room much better than my crappy attempt.

Here is a before shot

Super large room with many windows.

This is the main room of the house where the family watches TV so we needed a lot of seating.

2 sofas facing each other and 2 swivel/rocker wing chairs that are so dang comfortable!  All by Lee Industries.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE DETAILS

Whoa nellie.  That was some kinda response to my ORC room.  I was overwhelmed.

In most cases by the time I have finished with a room I can't look at it objectively anymore.  I start thinking do I even like it and what do I need to change...blaa....blaa.

Over think.  Over criticize.

But those are my demons.

You came back to hear some details about the room so here goes.

First up is the fabric.
I have used it before in the last ORC [my guest room].

Do I love it?

You betcha. You can find it at Lewis and Sheron
I love that it has a pretty cream background and so many variations of greige.

The wall color is BM White Dove and the cabinet color is ASCP French Linen.

We ordered the seagrass rug from Overstock and I picked up the hide at Scotts.  I love using seagrass for it's texture and durability.

This rug and table came from World Market.  The sunburst mirror was purchased at Target in the summer [not really knowing where it would go but at 14.00 I could not pass it up].
The pillow in the chair was mine and I used them in the Inspiration Showhouse.

When I was first trying to shoot this room I looked for inspiration on the internet.  Photographing neutrals can be tricky.

I found this shot of my good friend Steve's DR.  His blog An Urban Cottage is a favorite.

The colors are similar but the green accents really help to make the shot.  So I took a cue:)

Another small detail we did was take a piece of pine and stain it for the 2 small bump outs.

Here is a picture of the light fixture before.  I got this a couple of years ago at the Currey & Co. warehouse sale for 5.00.  Probably because there was no glass.

I love the shade that Maggie whipped up for it.

It added softness and gave it some presence.

These Robert Abby lamps used to be in my living room.  The shades came from some other lamps I had.

Yep....I love lamps and chairs.

In this shot....the floor lamp is RH and was bought at the outlet years ago.  The small round table is from HomeGoods.  The bird prints are from Scott's.  Pillow from HomeGoods, throw from Ikea and I bought the bamboo chest  at Lakewood Flea Market [sadly no more] 15 years ago.

The chest and small bamboo table are purchases from Scott's.  The throw is from West Elm.

The furry gray pillow and bracket are from HG.
The tray is from Target and the beads are from The Queen of Hearts Antique Market.

I think that is about it.  I hope you had a chance to visit all the reveals....they were pretty awesome.

Thanks to Linda for all of her hard work putting this party together.  She is the best.

Let me know if I forgot anything!
