Cottage Commissioned Art - some oars....

Hi Everyone....nothing like the great white North to inspire some art for a cottage....I am working on some oars for a very special client. These are done with Pyrography....another love of mine...

This is the first oar and it features one of the wonderful birds we spot on lakes up North....The Loon....Everyone loves to head North to the cottage here and the artwork used in some of these amazing places hardly ever is just on a canvas...it is always fun to create artwork on things like oars...

here is some info on this amazing species....thanks to Environment Canada.....

Loons have long been considered by many North Americans as beautiful and special, symbolizing wilderness and solitude. Many cottage-goers, campers, and vacationers would feel their trip was incomplete without viewing a loon or listening to its haunting call. Loons are water birds like ducks, geese, and grebes, but they are classified separately by scientists. The five species are Red-throated Loon Gavia stellata, Pacific Loon Gavia pacifica, Arctic Loon Gavia arctica, Yellow-billed Loon Gavia adamsii, and Common Loon Gavia immer. The Common Loon is the species best known to most of us, as its breeding range lies across most of Canada. All five species of loons migrate to warmer areas around the Gulf of Mexico and on the east and west coasts of North America to winter, and return to northern lakes to breed when the ice melts in spring.

140 hours of fame - taking art auctions to a whole new level...

Hi Everyone...This is my finished piece from a series I started in 2009...my wood and pyrography work titled "Transformation"....you are the first people to check it out...
I am so excited to be participating in a historical event at Galerie St. George in Staten Island, New York with this one of a kind piece!!!

This is a rare opportunity for someone to own my first wood and pyrography piece....The event is called “140 hours of Fame” an on-line art auction hosted toatlly via social networking....

Galerie St. George announced its “140 Hours of Fame®”, a unique online art auction designed to introduce emerging artists to a global marketplace. The auction will begin on 5 November 2009 at 12:01 p.m. EST and last 140 hours, through 11 November 2009 at 8:01 p.m. EST.
The 140-hour auction will take place entirely on the world wide web. The gallery has designed an auction system allowing TWITTER® users worldwide to enter their bids online.
Gary Brant, Director, explained, “With the huge popularity of TWITTER®, we wanted to reach out directly to this group of highly sophisticated users. This event will give our participating artists an opportunity to be seen by art buyers and collectors alerted to the event through the power of social networking.”

To check out my piece for the auction...you can head over to this link

Theme Thursday and Some paints to Experiment with....

Hello Everyone....oh what fun!!! The theme this week on Theme Thursday is Famous Faces...so I did some Hollywood Starlets!!! hope you enjoy this piece....

I found my latest paints for inspiration...these are liquid acrylics and they are like jewels....I will be experimenting with these and varnish to see if this will be a perfect fit for my latest body of work....the wood canvas and pyrography work....I just can't stop staring at these....

The greatest part about working alone in your studio is the experimentation....the trial and error.....everyone sees the finished product your happy with...but they miss out on all the fun learning and chemistry stuff...lol...

Have a wonderful day....

I will be off to the Doctors to get some stuff checked out...so wish me luck!
