This summer, Damon Albarn (Blur/ Gorillaz/The Good, The Bad & The Queen) made it clear to an unnamed source that The Pet Shop Boys "had made the song sound like their own." in reference to the song "Girls and Boys" by Blur remixed and planned to be released on "Disco 4".

As you can see, it is nowhere to be found on the tracklist.END

Supermax has just released the ... latest Vinyl and CD: REMAXED VOL. 2, only available for pre-selected Club-Djs.

In September 2007, a new double album with remixes of Supermax songs by the 20 best Djs, will hit the the market.

Supermax will perform their new remixed dancefloor music in clubs to be closer to the fans.

Dreamgirls soundtrack take 2

The Dreamgirls Dance Project

Can't get enough of Dreamgirls? There's another Dreamgirls "soundtrack" around thanks to Rick Gianatos. Gianatos is from the "school" of the Moultons, Pettibones, Gibbons and al. He did disco mixes for Shalamar, Gene Chandler, most artists on AVI Records and many others in the late 70s. He also remixed and produced way into the 80s, 90s and 00s. If you collect disco records, you might have seen his name on the disco mix credit.

Dreamgirls Dance Project is "a dance interpretation of the best known tracks from the musical"

On the album, Gianatos gathered together key members of renowned female groups of the 1960s; Scherrie Payne, Lynda Lawrence, Cindy Birdsong of the Supremes, Hodges James and Smith, Merry Clayton and James Gilstrap.

Listen to the songs at the DreamGirls Dance Project website.

Tracklist:

1. Dreamgirls (Acapella)
2. Dreamgirls

Foxy, getting it off with Monster taxi

Foxy, the "Hot Number" and "Party Boys" Florida band original members: Ish Ledesma, Arnold Paserio and Carl Driggs recently collaborated to Monster Taxi's reprisal of "Get Off" recently.

Various mixes appear on the cd single and are available as downloads on ITunes and Beatport

The mastermind behind Monster Taxi is Miami based Jason Klein who has worked on over 20 major label productions including Mariah Carey, Jim Brickman, Ricky Martin as well as a number of Latin artists.

There's more to Monster Taxi than Get Off as a bait for disco lovers, the self-titled album is quite good, neo funk served disco house style.

Songs from the album have been featured in Ministry of Sound and Song/BMG Record compilations.

Freddie Mercury, Borat and Miami Project

Separated at birth

Freddie Mercury and Sacha Baron "Borat" Cohen's resemblance isn't coincidental. Sacha is half Iranian (his mother) and Freddie Mercury is of Persian descent.

By the way, Queen's "Another one bites the dust" got the remix treatment thanks to our European friends at Positiva Records UK (legal and approved by Queen's remaining members). Get the 12 inch while you can here and there, The MP3 is available at the record label and other places.

View the videos at YouTube:

Queen vs Miami Project "Another one bites the dust"
Don't expect a spoof of the original, only kids breakdancing, yawn... zzzzz.

Queen "Another one bites the dust" Live at Wembley 1986
Funkier and with more kick ass basslines than the recorded version, Freddie is king

Queen "Another one bites the dust" original 1980 video
Where Borat's resemblance to Freddie is way obvious.

Pharrell Williams (Neptunes, N.E.R.D.) said "Another one bites the dust" was really big in the hood back in the days in this interview on ABC's Nightline last year (at around 1:20 in the video).

78' Chilly For your love remixed again

"For your love" The disco classic by Chilly (1978) has been remixed a few times in the last 18 months. The Basement Boys and Dimitri from Paris' versions both appeared in club compilations CDs. DJ Shops couldn't keep up with supply of the 12 inch. Other remixes popped-up in the last 3 weeks by Steve Mac, Haji and Emanuel and the Basement Boys, all of them on one 12 inch single, again flying off the shelves like hotcakes. It's really good!

Melissa Etheridge on the dance floor

The latest victim in the 70s/80s music recycling madness happening in Europe
is Melissa Etheridge.

Once a again a dj remixed an old hit, made it dance floor friendly, and voila! An old hit ressurected.

The recipe is working pretty well, and we're not talking white vinyl bootlegs here, The Way I Do by "2-4 Grooves" reached number 1 in the German Club Charts, Get Ready's record label representative Sandra of Pulsive Media: "Melissa Etheridge herself is so happy with this rework that she has confirmed everything and is crossing her fingers for the nice guys...".

U.S. release on Tommy Boy beginning of 2007 will contain additional RMXs by Junior Vasquez

We've observed many rock classics getting the dance floor treatment in the last 18 months. Let's not forget what rock music was initially in the 50s, music to dance to. People love to dance and groove to rock, the latest hit by BodyRockers "I like the way" prooved that indeniably! Back in the 80s, Van Halen, Phil Collins and ZZTop (among others) had dance floor ready rock hits!

Pictured here is the original album, not the 2006 remix

Eddie Murphy hits Europe's dance charts

... with his 80s flop.

2006 has been kind to Eddie Murphy. Not only he's back on the screen in the juicy role of "James Thunder Early" in DreamGirls (seen clips on Oprah, he's back in top form! Some say it's Oscar worthy), believe it, he's currently topping the dance charts in Europe with a remake/re-edit/remix of his so-so hit of 1985 "Party All the time", composed and produced by Rick James (R.I.P). The 2006 re-hash comes courtesy of DJ/Remixer Sharam (Deep Dish).

Sharam said to Pete Tong: "We were trying to get Eddie to re-sing it or clear it but the powers that be in different parts of the music industry did not want to do it... ... we had to go with a different singer. Antoine from Second Sun nailed the vocals and a lot of people cannot even tell the difference"

View the "uncut" version on YouTube (more funny in every sense)

Or better, view the original '85 video on YouTube, when Rick had long blondie hair :) :), boy do I miss the 80s!

By the way, Sharam conconcted an incredible dance floor friendly remix of the 70s classic by Fleetwood Mac "Dreams" recently.

A few weeks ago, read an excellent "study" written by Chris Cottingham in the October 2006 issue of MixMag on those recycled 70s-80s hits titled "McDance".

Recycled 70s/80s hits are doing very well in Europe.

Wonder if Rick James would have been around, then, this wouldn't have been possible, he wouldn't have allowed it, he didn't want MC Hammer to rap on "Super Freak" (U can't tuch this!) even less have a dj doing a loop with Eddie's "Party All the Time".

Rock trippin' to funky house

One misconception about disco heads like us is that we don't dig rock.

Don't dig trance and techno, but 70s classic rock, yes, baby!

70s classic rock is groovy and contrary to most of today's rock, it has rhythm and soul.

The point I'm coming to is those remixed bootlegs available on vinyl at the dj shops.

Some of them are by Dirty Funker, Dirty Funker has remixed The Knack's "My Sharona", Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song and lately, "Back in Black" by AC/DC among others.

So if you love rock classics AND funky house, check Dirty Funker at MySpace or your dj shop.

I have purchased Immigrant song and Back in Black is in my next purchase list.

Dirty Funker did a brilliant and amazing job remixing Back in Black, it's so good, it makes me laugh every time I listen to it.

Other rock classics getting the remix treatment lately (not necessarily by Dirty Funker) are...

Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze and Foxy Lady, some Jim Morrison.
