Well it’s Saturday all over again, and I have a few things to share with you.  First, many thanks and tons of kudos to our gracious hostess Beverly over at How Sweet the Sound.  Every week she gathers bloggers from all over to post at Pink Saturday..You should check it out, she is a wonderful lady.

I am participating in a swap over over at Prim It Up!.  Hayley has been gracious enough to pair each of us up with someone to either make or buy a Prim item and send it to them.  The sweet blogger who got my name is Alana Jo at That's Just Nifty Thrifty.  I received some beautiful handmade prim hearts, and a bagful of salt dough bowl fillers. They are just beautiful and I love them!  See below for a picture of my gift all dolled up in my pretty gilded gold bowl

Head banging

Short post, woke up with a killer headache, like someone hit the side of my head.  Got up and took my pain pills..ate a little something, then felt like I was having an anxiety attack, better now but head still hurts.  Just took a couple Excedrin and even though I was going to try to get through the day with no nap, not sure that's going to happen.

Ok just looked at this post and thought, what a dumb post and like anyone cares about a headache..wow Pulitzer prize coming my way ha-ha…

Rain, Rain and More Rain!

I live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, to be exact.  It is NOT supposed to rain like this.  Nope.

It started Monday.  We knew it was coming.  We just didn’t know how hard and how much.  Our little rain gauge in the backyard showed us at over 4” since Monday afternoon.  That’s a lot for the desert, because we don’t drain well.  There is nothing to sop the water up, so it just, well, floods and puddles everywhere.

A lot of roads are closed in the valley, the usual suspects that always close when it rains more than a sprinkle.  Now we have been coming to the area for way over 30 years as my parents have lived out in this area since 1972.  The same roads that flooded way back then are STILL flooding.  I don’t get it.  Seems to me these problem areas should be fixed.  Well, obviously I am not in charge..

Carl and I have pretty much stayed close to home this week, we don’t care to drive through flooded intersections as much as we did when we were younger, or rather I don’t.  He would love to take the jeep through some rough spots, makes me a little nervous.  Glad he only has one arm as his other arm still in a sling from his surgery, or I am sure he would be out getting muddy somewhere.

Thought I would post a few pictures..

Tennis, anyone

This is down the block from us, a retaining basin disguised at a tennis court, this was taken this morning and as you can see, the water is to the top of the net..I am guessing it has overflowed by now or is close.

broken retaining basin

One of the retaining basins burst through the dirt berm..I tell ya, lots of rain..  We have several of these retaining basins here at Mountain View.  Most of them fill up very fast.

Here’s hoping the rain stops soon.  I miss the sun:(

Pink Saturday

Whoa time is going much too fast..already the middle of January.

Thanks and blessings to Beverly over at How Sweet the Sound for hosting our Pink Saturdays..jump over there and see all the wonderful bloggers and their posts!

Also we are challenged each and every week to find a blog/blogger new to us and introduce them to YOU. This week I came across Suzanne at Southern Inspiration, her blog is great and she is a lovely lady.  Stop by and visit her and say hi when you get a chance!

This week I am showcasing my vintage miniatures that I inherited from my grandmother several years ago.  I split them up a few months ago and gave half to my sister, it was only right and I certainly did not need all of them, a few is plenty believe me!  I had a LOT of them.  I am not sure how old these are, except to say I played with them as a little, little girl and I am 56 years old.  So, they are ‘old enough’ lol.

Enjoy!

A Caching We Will go!

When Carl and I lived in Southern Utah a couple years ago, we got into this strange little activity called Geocaching with our good friends Artie and her hubby Lynn.  What is geocaching, you ask.  I always say it’s like a treasure hunt.  You need a handheld GPS, a good pair of shoes, and if you are me, a camera!  For a little more info, go here

Like I said, we used to do this strange activity a couple times a week at minimum..but then we moved to WA state and we tried it there, but it was just too wet and rainy..Fast forward to now, we are living in the Southern CA desert, not a lick of rain in sight, and yesterday Carl and I decided to explore the area just behind us in the foothills a couple miles away..there is a dirt road that leads from our housing development and goes all the way up the hill to Yucca Valley.  Pretty much need a 4 wheel drive, and we have the jeep, so I think a trip up that road is going to happen pretty soon while it’s still cool.  This is a MAP of the route.  We found an abandoned ‘camp’ that was owned by the Metropolitan Water District in the1930’s.. it’s cement buildings dilapidated, graffittied and all shot up, plus zillions of spent bullet casings.  Now we did not hear any shooting going on while we were there, but lots of evidence.  We will go back, further up the hill there won’t be any shooting going on..just treasure hunting.  We did see the MWD siphons and there was a huge structure and we could hear the water rushing somewhere below..water from the Colorado River rushing to the Los Angeles area.  It was actually really interesting!

Anyway, we only found a couple of ‘caches’ but we got our feet ‘wet’ again with our treasure hunting.. we took the car so we did not go very far..next time the jeep.  And I wish Artie and Lynn would come and go with us, that woman makes the BEST egg salad sandwiches..that and we just miss them tons..

And of course I took pictures.  I ALWAYS take pictures!  Enjoy!
