Tip & Top and The Moon Rocket (1964)

A charming pop-up book about a trip to the moon. Like other pop-up books it is hard to share how wonderful it is to see the rocket rise up or how the surface of the Moon is 3-d.  It is a reprint and was was originally Czechoslovakian but I don't know much more about the original book.

A Visit to the New York World's Fair with Peter and Wendy (1964)

An apology to my long time followers. I had stopped posting months ago when I got too busy. I am also having to work much harder to find /create new posts. So let me try every 2 weeks for a while and see how I do.

A Visit to the New York World's Fair was the official World's Fair storybook. A great example of obscure but not particularly valuable. It shows 2 children touring the fair and seeing what they saw. I chose it because of a little bit of space content and as a fan of the film "Men in Black." So look for the "flying saucers" sculpture as featured in the film.

The Magic Motion Martian Book (1964)

A pleasantly strange space book about Martians visiting the earth. The "magic motion" consisted of a little lenticular piece inside each page so if you moved your head the image would move. Not very exciting but it did make for a fun story.

Cosmonaut-2 (1964)

Cosmonaut-2 was a Russian pamphlet for older children about Gherman Titov. It has some lovely illustration about the 2nd manned Russian space launch. At age 25 Titov remains the youngest man to fly in Earth orbit. Vostok 2 was launched on August 6, 1961.

Funny Pictures Magazine May 1964

The May issue of Funny Pictures magazine had a comic strip about spaceflight I wanted to share. Funny Pictures was a Soviet children's magazine with joke, cartoons and stories. I like these charming stories and this one has a nice fantasy about a boy's dream about adventures in space.
