Kostelecka Kureci

It takes a special friend to know that this sausage/liver paste from The Czech Republic would be the perfect gift to give someone. It came in a little aluminum cup styled container about 2.5 inches round and about 1/2 an inch thick. I opened it up and the paste smelled like cat poop. I did not eat it, but the aroma will stay with me forever. Do a little web surfing and you'll find it's still being sold. Buy yourself a can today! You'll be glad you did -- or not. Enjoy.

Alex Steinweiss - Creator of the LP

"The first illustrated album cover was designed in 1938 for a 78rpm record, by Alex Steinweiss, art director at Columbia Records, in 1938. And it was he, in the early 1950s, after designing hundreds of packages, posters and catalogues for Columbia, who created the paperboard LP cover to protect and market the latest revolution in music delivery, and in the process defined the visual identity of recorded music for decades to come."

Ephemera -- mostly from Southeast Asia. via stevechasmar

"I've been gathering these for about 25 years. I wish I had been more diligent in looking and acquiring back when I first started collecting. Nowadays many of these paper envelopes that were once used for traditional nostrums have been mostly replaced by plastic packets. I recently tried to get more Burmese examples only to find they are all plastic now."

Chicago gang cards

" Every city has its own gang history, part of Chicago's are Gang cards, most prominent in the 70's and early 80's, back in the day when a gang was more of a neighborhood crew then what it is today. Fists, bats, and bottles days, before guns became the norm in the gang. Most of the gangs were just about the neighborhood and hanging out together. Stock art from the printer as well as some hand drawn illustrations were the back bone of many of the cards. Some cards are pretty humorous, with some off the wall illustrations, logos, sayings, and rhymes. They don't make them like they used to... " via we are supervision

Chinese Pamphlets

Shui po hai le Jin sang zi

A sad story.

"Mass education materials published in Hong Kong and in Mainland China, particularly Shanghai, in the years 1947-1954. These cartoon books, pamphlets, postcards and magazines, on topics such as foreign threats to Chinese security, Chinese relations with the Soviet Union, industrial and agricultural production, and marriage reform, were produced by both Kuomintang (Nationalist) and Gongchantang (Communist) supporters."
