Presence - In Wonder (Mixes)

Presence was relatively short-lived project, set up in 1991 by Laurence (Lol) Tolhurst (ex drummer/keyboards The Cure). Line-up was Lol Tolhurst and Chris Youdell (ex Then Jericho) on keyboards, Alan Burgess on drums, Gary Biddles on vocals, Roberto Suave on bass. Released one album "Inside" and 4 singles to mixed reviews and split in 1993.

Slowdive, the shoegazing giants from the early 90's, have their track “In Mind” taken to the cleaners by Bandulu and Reload on the 5 EP. Bandulu take the minor chords and stretch them into a dub-inflected whirlwind. But the standout is the Reload mix: a shimmering, blissful track with downtempo rhythm and futuristic soul. Breathtaking.

When the Sabres of Paradise take you on a journey, they really take you. They rework James' Jam J into a one, long, languorous dub journey, back in the heady days when "chill out" actually meant something. It's time to kick up your feet for the slow, shuffling beats during the Arena Dub" and digital blippery during the "Amphetamine Pulsate." By the "Sabresonic Tremolo Dub" more of the guitars come through, but still in service to the reverb. Finally, the "Spaghetti Steamhammer" rolls in like a Western on Quaaludes.
