Cola Boy - He Is Cola
COLA BOY
He Is Cola
1991 Arista
Cola Boy was an early-90s side project for Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs of Saint Etienne plus their engineer and mate Ian Catt. ''He Is Cola'' was their second single including three mixes of title track, released in 1991 on Arista Records. The original mix of He Is Cola is the best, sounding like a Saint Etienne album track with a melancholy vibraphone led melody, a funky Burundi drum breakdown in the middle, and wonderfully inane lyrics sung ever so sweetly. "The Nautilus Workout" mix perversely removes the drums, vocals, and melody, and is a drifting version of the song with spacey synths and weird samples of British TV & movies, kids on playgrounds, and even The Beatles. The full-length mix drags on a bit too long but is still quite nice. It is a cool collectors' item, and one you will even enjoy pulling out and listening to every now and then when you need a fix of mindlessly fun music.
