See See Rider - Dust Rocks & Flakes (Unreleased Album)

SEE SEE RIDER
Dust Rocks & Flakes (Unreleased Album)
1992 Lazy Records

Notes :
See See Rider were an indie rock group formed in East Kilbride, Scotland, active between 1989 and 1992.
One of the most mysterious and intriguing bands of the late 80’s and early 90’s See See Rider released only two singles - the first was a self titled four track EP featuring the gorgeous 'She Sings Alone.’ Their second was a brooding love song called ‘Stolen Heart.’ The singles were released on Lazy Records a label that had earlier success with releases by The Primitives and My Bloody Valentine. Both See See Rider singles were best sellers in the indie charts, but as the only legacy of a band who were tipped for big things in the NME it’s an unsatisfying catalogue.
The band comprised Stephen Sands, May Rock Marshall, Phil King, Pete Tweedie and Lewis Chamberlain. Stephen and May were the songwriting partnership who had established the band in London after moving from their hometown East Kilbride. It was the East Kilbride connection that led to Douglas Hart of the Jesus and Mary Chain later featuring on the song See See.
Their music seemed to cross the divide between the then burgeoning shoegaze scene and the waning indie scene – sometimes described as eccentric, it filled a niche neither here nor there and its this lack of belonging that has defined See See Rider as a band of unique identity and sometimes mystery. Catching up with the music of See See Rider now it is no less of a joy to listen to music of singular originality.
Lazy Records folded in 1991 leaving the bands album Dust Rocks and Flakes unfinished and unreleased. A demo version of the album has lately resurfaced and songs like Crystal Springs and Sucking Fruit should remind us that See See Rider were major contenders, not only eccentric and unique but not afraid of a good tune - the only mystery is why they did not manage to release more than two singles.
