Polak - 3 X 3

POLAK
3 x 3
1999 The Generic Label

Notes :
Polak was 90's UK indie rock band from Brighton, formed by brothers Piotr Fijalkowski (ex- singer / vocalist in Adorable) & Krzys Fijalkowski (ex- guitarist in The Bardots). Other band members were Bob Brown (bass), Chris Parsons (drums) and Simon Dunford (keyboards).
They released three singles on Generic label in limited editions throughout 1998/99. The singles, plus a re-recording of their A-side  ''2 Minutes 45'', were put together for ''3X3'' compilation.
Polak released two albums ''Swansongs (2000)" and ''Rubbernecking (2002)'', both for One Little Indian label.
After ''Rubbernecking'', they were offered a third album by One Little Indian but by that time they were down to a three piece (Chris, Bob and Pete) and everyone was so up to their eyeballs in debt that there was no chance they’d be able to promote the album at all, so they decided to call it a day. They had recorded a couple of tracks with Bob on guitar.

01. 2 Minutes 45
02. Not Listening
03. Last Orders
04. I'm Sick
05. I'll Lie To You

V.A. - I Might Walk Home Alone

Various Artists
I Might Walk Home Alone
1992 Wilde Club Records

Wilde Club Records was an independent UK imprint helmed by Norwich club owner Dave Bates. Most of the releases from the early '90s label were 12" singles of bands that seemed to follow in the paths of The Stone Roses, Wedding Present and Ride. The label's two most prominent releases were the first two singles by Catherine Wheel ("She's My Friend" and "Painful Thing"), who would eventually sign with Fontana and attain wider success internationally as a respected cult band. The Bardots were the only other band of major notice to have released material on the label; the remainder of the outfits were pretty cut-rate. I Might Walk Home Alone is a compilation of the label's highlights, featuring Catherine Wheel's "She's My Friend" in its hazy original version (pretty much the only way to obtain it on CD), as well as The Bardots' just-as-swirly "Summerhouse." One obscuro that sticks out is the terrific "Bite the Apple" by Shine!, who approximate the fevered pop of early Wedding Present while adding ultra-melodic multi-part harmonies. What became of them? Blair 1523's "Take Me There" is hippie-ish Chapterhouse-lite, while the remainder of the bands stick to copycatting their record collections. Regardless of its patchiness, it's a decent compilation for those who can't get enough of that fuzzy stuff.

The Bardots - Pretty O EP

THE BARDOTS
Pretty O EP
1992 Cheree Records

Yet another victim in the misplaced hype of British music journalists, the Bardots formed in Norwich, England in 1989. Simon Dunford (guitar/vocals), Andy Murphy (guitar), Steve Cox (bass), and Neil Cox (drums) had begun playing together in university and in 1990 released their debut single, Sofaelaine, a flexi-disc release. After their first more “official” single, Sad Anne, the band added a fifth member (Krzysztof Fijalkowski on guitar) and got a deal with Cheree Records. Their debut full-length, Eye Baby, got some underground support, and the British music press dubbed them a “next big thing. ” In 1994, with Murphy no longer with the band (replaced by Yves Altana), their long-awaited follow-up, V-Neck, appeared. The album failed to make an impact, and the group faded away.
