The Snapdragons - Mass (Unreleased Second Album)
The Snapdragons (sometimes referred to as 'The Snapdragons UK', to
distinguish them from the later US band of the same name) were an
indie-rock band from Leeds, England led by singer and main songwriter
James Taylor. Other band members were: John Sullivan (guitar), Simon 'Spike' Mulling (bass guitar) and Pellegrino 'Pel' Riccardi (drums)
They released two albums and four singles in the late 1980s, early 1990s while signed to the independent UK label Native Records. The album Dawn Raids on Morality is rated by Native and many aficionados of UK Indie music as an undiscovered gem with thoughtful lyrics and classy guitar work and was produced by Pat Collier.
The band toured the UK and supported other Native acts, such as The Darling Buds and Richard Hawley's debut band Treebound Story. However inconsistent performances by the band and the departure of John Sullivan and later "Spike" Mullings hindered the band's ability to reach a wider audience.
The follow up album The Eternal in a Moment is a compilation of tracks from singles and EPs not found on the first album and includes two standout tracks 'The Things You Want' and 'The Eternal in a Moment' which were the band's first two singles. This compilation album was released by the label as the single were now deleted but against the wishes of the band.
A second studio album entitled Mass was recorded with Nigel Lister replacing John Sullivan on guitar however this was not issued by Native due to legal problems which effectively saw the demise of band.

See See Rider - Dust Rocks & Flakes (Unreleased Album)
One of the most mysterious and intriguing bands of the late 80’s and early 90’s See See Rider released only two singles - the first was a self titled four track EP featuring the gorgeous 'She Sings Alone.’ Their second was a brooding love song called ‘Stolen Heart.’ The singles were released on Lazy Records a label that had earlier success with releases by The Primitives and My Bloody Valentine. Both See See Rider singles were best sellers in the indie charts, but as the only legacy of a band who were tipped for big things in the NME its an unsatisfying catalogue.
The band comprised Stephen Sands, May Rock Marshall, Phil King, Pete Tweedie and Lewis Chamberlain. Stephen and May were the songwriting partnership who had established the band in London after moving from their hometown East Kilbride. It was the East Kilbride connection that led to Douglas Hart of the Jesus and Mary Chain later featuring on the song See See.
Their music seemed to cross the divide between the then burgeoning shoegaze scene and the waning indie scene sometimes described as eccentric, it filled a niche neither here nor there and its this lack of belonging that has defined See See Rider as a band of unique identity and sometimes mystery. Catching up with the music of See See Rider now it is no less of a joy to listen to music of singular originality.
Lazy Records folded in 1991 leaving the bands album Dust Rocks and Flakes unfinished and unreleased. A demo version of the album has lately resurfaced and songs like Crystal Springs and Sucking Fruit should remind us that See See Rider were major contenders, not only eccentric and unique but not afraid of a good tune - the only mystery is why they did not manage to release more than two singles.
