A Benny For Your Thoughts

This is one of the things that I lost when my hard drive crashed earlier this year. I had a stereo copy of this ripped and ready to share when I found a stereo tape of it! I had recorded that, but hadn't cut it into sections when the hard drive decided to take an early retirement. So you're going to have to make due with my same old mono share dating all the way back to 2005. But it's still a great record. You get songs from Dennis Day, and the occasional bit featuring the famous Jack Benny. That alone is worth more than the price of admission. I know the scan above shows the stereo logo across the top, but I just put it up there for no good reason back in the day. In fact, stereo copies omit the banner across the bottom highlighting the presence of Jack Benny. This is Dick Leibert's other LP for Westminster. This time it's got a big credit for Wurlitzer right there on the front cover. How's that for product placement? Captain Kirk

I think it's been a few days since I shared an organ Christmas record with you, so you're about due for one. And look, here's one now. There's a good chance that this one won't be on your record shelf if you don't live in west central Florida. This was recorded in a little chapel up in Dunedin on an organ called The Kirk. Or maybe it's called The Duchess. I'm not sure, and it's a little hard to tell. I had the same confusion last year when I shared this out, and I'm thinking the only way to clear up the issue is to hop in the car one day and go visit. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen this year. The Kirk Of Dunedin

Tonight's share may be of limited interest to most of you, but for the locals, you may appreciate it. Up in Dunedin, Florida, there's a pipe organ called The Kirk. Well, maybe the building is called The Kirk, and the organ is called The Duchess, I'm a little unsure of how it works. I don't know if all pipe organs have names, but this one does. And that organ is shepherded by Mr. Terry Charles. I know all this because of the liner notes on this LP, and from the website that seems to have gone un-updated for a while, but perhaps it's still active. Anyhow, every once in a while, I'd stumble across a Christmas LP recorded by this guy at this organ, but not the one you see above. There's another one that is much more common, it's green where this one is red, and you can actually buy that one from the artist at the website above. But this one, I've only ever seen it once, and there's no mention of it on the website. I checked, and it is different from the green one. I've no idea why it's not also on the website, but because it's not up there, I can share it with you. More Mann

I was reminded of this old share for two reasons. First, the name Mann is also on a share from the other day, and second, the artist on this one, Sy Mann, also recorded a Moog Christmas LP similar to the last LP I reshared with you. So there is some minor logic to what I share out with you, but not much. Anyhow, I shared a mono version of this with you in 2005, and I first shared the stereo version with you in 2006. There's an extra track on the mono version, so you might want to click on over to that one if you like what you hear on the stereo one, which is what I'm resharing here. Dick Leibert Returns-Part One

It's the day after Three Suns Sunday, so it must be Dick Leibert Monday. Or something like that, I suppose. Just bear with me, and we'll get through this together. Dick Leibert is a great organist, with a couple of great Christmas albums under his belt. The one I'm sharing out here isn't the best he ever did, but it's still pretty good. Stereo Mann

Here's a new version of a share from last year that I found in Stereo for you. I originally recorded this record last year because it was by Sy Mann, and I had just downloaded his Moog Christmas record. I had hope that maybe this one was as good, but it's not. It's still not bad, though. And I'm excited to bring you a stereo copy this year. Funny thing is, the stereo version omits one song (It Came Upon A Midnight Clear) that's on the mono version, so you may want to go get that version. (The track is listed on the back of the record, but not on the label, and it's certainly not on the vinyl. I guess the stereo tracks wouldn't fit on the record. Or maybe they just wanted to save a little more money. I don't know...)
